So far, no official reason has been given for the split but it has now been claimed that the union imploded because of the amount time Prince has been spending with his new act Tamar.

A source told America's New York Post newspaper: "Prince has been spending an inordinate amount of time with his new protégé. He is trying to get her signed with a major label and has her doing the rounds. Everyone takes the meeting because of Prince, but she's just a pretty girl singing Prince songs. It's not very good. He hasn't found a taker, but he is smitten with her."

I'm just glad he woke up and saw the light. He's no innocent, but I do suspect she figured out how to get to him (and to help get him deeper into Jehovah, hoping it'd be a little insurance policy) and then played him like a fool.

I feel bad for them, that so much was destroyed in their pursuit of love. And Prince really did seem to believe, on some level, that she loved him for him. He deserves to have that. It's so sad -- doubtful that any of the women who seemed to truly love him before would ever take him back now, given how he treated them. (Still, any chance Susannah is an option?)

That said, I hope that somewhere, Mayte is Laughing. Her. Ass. Off. And Prince is re-evaluating his life and looking into some therapy so maybe one day he'll be able to let somebody love him and weather the storms without trying to look elsewhere ...

Maybe I'm being naïve (or in denial), but the article doesn't imply anything more than a business relationship b/t Tamar & Prince (except for the use of the word 'smitten' which generally has romantic connotations...) Is this Life Style Extra magazine a rag or does it actually write worthwhile articles?

But can someone explain the following discrepancies:

1. "He is trying to get her signed with a major label"--I thought Tamar was already signed with Universal?

2. When did Prince start working with Tamar? Because Mani & Prince separated over a year ago (from sources I've read), so the timelines may be off. Wasn't it Liza Hernandez (Ms. Panama) that he was 'working' with last spring/summer?


Man, I really hope this Tamar thing is strictly business. I know Prince has a history of being a philanderer and I try to separate the music from "the person" but I can't help it--my respect for him will go down if that's the case. (And my respect for Tamar will plummet as well.)

i dont get why so many people thinks he should get back with mayte. I know they had chemistry together, but that is the past. Most people don't reunite with ex-wives/ex-girlfriends when the current marriage/relationship doesn't work out. Thank about it. You divorced/broke-up for a reason, why would you go back? They were married, there is no doubt there will always be a special place in their hearts for each other, that is natural, but to expect that they would reunite just because he is getting divorced? Reality.....don't look to the past, look to the future

not quite to the level of National Inquirer, it is an actual newspaper, but they are known for printing information that isn't completely accurate, and for printing information that goes more along the lines of "tabloid" type stuff.

According to People, Prince's lawyer explained the filing for divorce came from Manuela alone. Although he didn't want things to end this way, Prince isn't counter suing, simply trying to resolve matters.
