Further on: No comments on either Prince or either Manuela. I am not going discuss people i dont know personally. Just one thing i like to state: I notice many people in here think that the divorce might has something to do with Prince cheating on Manuela. But most relationships fail on other things actually: lack of communication, not being on one level, people thinking different, etc. Take that in mind.

I agree with you
Anything could've happened. We honestly don't know for sure. But I will say one thing..I hope they both are happy and I wish them the best.
(Now Prince I live in Brooklyn,NY)..lol. J/K sorry
But anyway. Hope things work out for the better. For them both.

Just heard this song on the radio, and thought the lyrics were kind of fitting.

Just Once Lyrics
Quincy Jones

Just Once
James Ingram

I did my best
But I guess my best wasn't good enough
'Cause here we are back where we were before
Seems nothing ever changes
We're back to being strangers
Wondering if we oughta stay
Or head on out the door

Just once can't we figure out what we keep doing wrong
Why we never last for very long
What are we doing wrong
Just once can't we find a way to finally make it right
Make the magic last for more than just one night
If we could just get to it
I know we could break through it

I gave my all
But I think my all may have been too much
'Cause Lord knows we're not getting anywhere
Seems we're always blowing whatever we got going
And seems at times with all we've got
We haven't got a prayer
Just once can't we figure out what we keep doing wrong
Why the goodtimes never last for very long
Seems we're always blowing
Whatever we got going

Just once can't we find a way to finally make it right
Make the magic last for more than just one night
If we could just get to it
I know we could break through it

Just once I want to understand
Why it always come back to good-bye
Why can't we get ourselves in hand
And admit to one another
That we're no good with out the other
Take the best and make it better
Find a way to stay together

Just once can't we find a way to finally make it right
Make the magic last for more than just one night
I know we can break through it
If we could just get to it

Just once
If we could get to it

Just Once...

I'm saddened to hear of Prince and Mani splitting up, but have to say that I'm not surprised. They have not been seen together in quite some time, honestly. I wish them nothing but the best.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I agree. Not all marriages fail for the same reason. Nor is there usually one reason for the breakdown of a particular marriage. Nevertheless, we hear some reasons more often than others.

They are (listed in order of most common to least common per statistics):

1. Poor communication
2. Financial problems
3. A lack of commitment to the marriage
4. A dramatic change in priorities
5. Infidelity

There are other causes we see a lot, but not quite as often as those listed above .They are:

1. Failed expectations or unmet needs
2. Addictions and substance abuse
3. Physical, sexual or emotional abuse
4. Lack of conflict resolution skills

But now he's a JW, I'm sure he will be looking for a decent woman.

A decent woman will require a decent man . . . wink

You should be the kind of person you'd like to marry.

Well, when I say decent, I don't mean perfect as none of us are perfect, but someone who has self-respect and other forms of what is considered "decent" in our society.I guess it all depends on what that person is looking for in another. I, however wouldn't want someone who is too much like me, that's like being with myself, although I do love me lol , but would want to share "me" with someone who accepts me for me. I would want someone who would understand what it is I want out of life, i.e, my dreams, careeer, etc. not someone who doesn't understands it. They need to know what kind of package they are getting and accept me for who "I am" not what they want me to be.

Although I stated he should have someone that is decent, I don't mean what I consider decent for me, but what is considered decent for him and a person that could make him happy, love him for who he is as a human being, spiritually, and all that his life entails as a musician/artist. He is a well-known artist/musician, has been that for a while, and the partner he ends up with should understand all that comes with that type of life; if not, then they are just not for him.

Although it is difficult when someone you love is so involved in his music like Prince, whomever it is that he finds to love him, between the both of them, they should find time to balance some time for their relationship regardless. Even if they have to travel together to be with each other, especially if he is on a long tour, it gets lonely without your significant other. Make the time, if you truly love each other you will find the time, no such thing as you can't unless you don't really want to. It is not easy, as he is surrounded by many female fans and other musicians wishing to work with him, but it's no secret that he is a lover of his music and that person should know that straight on going in.

You're listening Prince? Be weary next time around, be weary. I do wish you find someone that truly loves you for you though.

The Tamar rumors have made it to the press.

Prince's protégé

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Prince's marriage has ended because of his infatuation with his new protégé, it has been claimed.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the pop superstar and his wife Manuela Testolini Nelson were calling time on their relationship after five years of marriage.

Prince's lawyer, Alan Eidsness, said that divorce papers for the couple were filed at Minnesota's Hennepin County District Court on May 24.

So far, no official reason has been given for the split but it has now been claimed that the union imploded because of the amount time Prince has been spending with his new act Tamar.

A source told America's New York Post newspaper: "Prince has been spending an inordinate amount of time with his new protégé. He is trying to get her signed with a major label and has her doing the rounds. Everyone takes the meeting because of Prince, but she's just a pretty girl singing Prince songs. It's not very good. He hasn't found a taker, but he is smitten with her."

Prince, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, and Testolini tied the knot in 2001, in a romantic ceremony in Hawaii, with Testolini taking the 'Purple Rain' singer's little know last name.

It is star's second failed marriage. He was previously married to backup singer and dancer Mayte Garcia but their union was annulled in 1998.

So far, representatives for Prince and Testolini have refused to comment on the couple's split.

The Bible recommends that a man love his wife as he loves himself and that a woman have deep respect for her husband. A couple should be ready to work hard at those things if they desire a happy marriage.

There's never room for selfishness on either mate's part. If each partner considers the other's needs as superior to their own -- on all levels -- a good relationship is practically guaranteed.

If a person cannot do that for another, they are not truly ready for marriage.

And that's okay -- not everyone needs to be married (I'm not). wink

But those are things that Jehovah expects from those who make that committment.

He didn't look like he was sweating too much in those past shows he just had. I think he pretty much was prepared for all this go down. Had a whole year to do it. It's just that it's out in the open now. Old news for him, new for us.

You're right about that. I think they just want him back with Mayte because they think he'll put out the kind of songs he did when he was with her. That was the past, this is now. I'm looking forward to what music he has to offer now. I'm sure down the road he'll find a woman, a decent one at that, hopefully not some fanatical fan, err like the ex to be? lol

If that's their reason I could not disagree more. Emancipation, his declaration of love to Mayte, is three discs of pooptoast. That album alone is reason enough for them to not remarry. The music from his "Mayte era" is some of the music I dislike the most. Yuck! (The main exception being Come.) And her album was nothing to write home about either--do you really want another Mayte album? lol
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Well, Prince is intense it seems to be all or nothing with him...I don't know if it is in his nature to "take his time" or "take it slow" with women. When he falls in love he falls HARD. He seems to give every bit of his soul and merge with the woman so I don't think he is the type of person who knows how to hold back. He is such a feeling type of person that he is very receptive to love so I'm sure he will find love again soon.

You know, I have to agree with you on that, because you are right. He does seem to fall in love pretty quickly. He sure was playing some sad songs in the reflection room for the past couple of weeks before the club closed down. Such is life.

Well on the positive side, when you can feel pain this deeply you also can feel love as deeply and at it's most euphoric heights I believe. Much more than someone who constantly has a guard up who is so fearful of getting hurt that they only give up a part of themselves. To get the full power of love you also have expose yourself to possible hurt.

You know what. We know nothing. We (meaning those who haven't met him) know nothing about who he really is. You know his stage persona. We know his music (a lot of it anyways). And the "hoe" you speak of hasn't been around since he was married to the woman!

And what's funny is that what many of you love(d) about him (his "hoeness") is the very thing that you think contributes to him being a bad person!

i dont get why so many people thinks he should get back with mayte. I know they had chemistry together, but that is the past. Most people don't reunite with ex-wives/ex-girlfriends when the current marriage/relationship doesn't work out. Thank about it. You divorced/broke-up for a reason, why would you go back? They were married, there is no doubt there will always be a special place in their hearts for each other, that is natural, but to expect that they would reunite just because he is getting divorced? Reality.....don't look to the past, look to the future wink

Hiya txladykat,
I guess deep down I'm one of them folx who wishes they would get back together. So I'll answer the "why" question as best I can. You're right..MOST people don't reunite..but some do, and I feel the ones that do must be the ones who realized mistakes were made and perhaps they both grew up a bit in the time that has passed, and realized that person is the ONE for them. Maybe they divorced/broke up too fast, or for the wrong reasons...who knows really.
why should you go back? cause it feels right, and for no other reason.
I don't expect them to reunite just because he and mani are kaput....but I have to admit I hope (and don't think they really will) they do.
I dunno...Prince just really seemed in LOVE with Mayte, it seemed to just oooze out all ova! maybe it was only one sided...maybe mayte was too young, maybe the tragedy was just too much... maybe I just have no clue. smile
either way...I think this whole thing is very sad and hope both Prince and Mani find happiness in their hearts.
sad
btw...what day was the saturday night live performance?
[Edited 7/28/06 9:56am]

Hey Shorty

I kinda agree with what you are saying. Some people do make mistakes and realize it way down the line and wish they could go back. I think that if they had been able to deal better with the tragedy of the passing their son (without the intrusion of Mani) then they could have possibly made it. Like you said they did seem to be very much in heart and I hate to see people end their marriages (even his current one) if it really could have been saved with a little work and commitment.

idea2 Now in relation to who has had Mayte since then and who P has had since then. Well hmmm I am of the opinion that if they do take the road back to each other then they both should undergo a good sterilization razz

Very true...I think it is pretty obvious to fans that he has been around the block a few times but even though that presents a very sexy image to us and female fans love to picture Prince as a exciting cassanova in reality that has probably made him a very unhappy man and more than likely gave him a pretty negative view of women in general.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being single and dating lots of people...sometimes I think it can be healthy and expose you to lots of different people there seemed a time in his life when this suited his personality and lifestyle very well in the eighties...but there probably came a point where it all just felt very empty for him.

Exactly my point. In general I don't like sappy ballads where Prince is crooning about true love. barf Since the majority of Emancipation is comprised of those types of songs, I don't like Emancipation. Since Mayte inspired most of Emancipation, I wouldn't want her to inspire him in that way again, therefore, I don't think they should reunite. wink
