Prince Hears The Doves Crying

By Scott Gwin: 2006-07-27

According to People, Prince's lawyer explained the filing for divorce came from Manuela alone. Although he didn't want things to end this way, Prince isn't counter suing, simply trying to resolve matters.

Does anyone actually believe that he didn't want her to leave? Somewhere on the thread someone said that he had actually put her out and that letting her file was a way for her to save face. I don't know what I think about all of that.

Also, what would a countersuit for a divorce be about? "You cheated, but I didn't. Liar, take that." Is that how it goes?

Like everyone else has said, this is really sad for him.
Come here, babe.. yeah...

This is what it sounds like when doves cry. Wife number 2 has filed for divorce from Prince. Manuela Testolini Nelson, 29, has been married to the 48 year old funk rocker since 1999.

Female fans excited at the thought that Prince may soon again be on the bachelor's list, don't start celebrating yet. Prince, a Jehovah's Witness, is prohibited by his faith from remarrying if he gets divorced, lest he spend the rest of his days with a giant purple A on his shirt.

Media got it wrong again.

How can he resolves things if Mani is supposedly the one who leaked this story to CJ?

Mani leaking info to a reporter? ANYONE could have sent an anonymous note. The # of people involved in this situation is unbelievable. And since most have confidentiality agreements, you couldn't trace it for good reason. There's two camps, and the mud slingings begun. The woman is head of a CHARITABLE organization!! I don't hear any rumors about her sleeping around. She's too dignified to do so. With the two living in separate cities, P doesn't seem to be the celibate type.

Yeah but then CJ went on to write that Mani wrote her to thank her for that article that she wrote about her organization doing the free arts day thing and then Mani wrote back again after CJ asked for more info about her company and that was it.

Prince's Wife, Manuela, Filed for Divorce
WEDNESDAY JULY 26, 2006 07:20PM EST

THURSDAY JULY 27, 2006 06:20PM EST UPDATED

Testolini Nelson and Prince

Prince's wife, Manuela Testolini Nelson, filed the petition to end their five-year union, PEOPLE has learned.

"Deciding to end the marriage was a very difficult decision for Ms. Nelson," says her attorney, Edward Winer. "She is seeking a cooperative resolution of this case and hopes the proceeding will be resolved quickly and respectfully. Ms. Nelson continues to be focused on her charitable work and her business, which remain her top priority."

Prince's personal lawyer, Patrick Cousins, confirms that Testolini Nelson is the petitioner. "His wife filed for divorce. This isn’t something that he wanted," says Cousins. "There isn't anything else. He didn't counter sue. He is just trying to get it resolved.”

The divorce action was filed at Minnesota's Hennepin County District Court on May 24. The documents are sealed. (Minneapolis's Star Tribune newspaper was first to report the story.)

"All we can do is to just try to amicably resolve it, and that is what we are trying to do," adds Cousins.

Prince (full name: Prince Rogers Nelson), 48, and Testolini Nelson, 29, a former employee at Prince's charitable foundation, were married in 2001. She took her husband's last name.

Testolini Nelson, a Toronto native, is the founder and president of Gamillah, Inc., which operates, among other ventures, a production company and a line of designer candles. She is also involved with nonprofits including YouthCARE and United Communities Against Poverty.

Prince, who is working on a follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2006 album 3121, was previously married to backup singer and dancer Mayte Garcia from 1996 through 1998, when their union was annulled.

Manuela has kissed her Prince goodbye in divorce court
C.J., Star Tribune
Last update: July 26, 2006 – 11:00 PM

I sensed something amiss between Prince and Manuela when she became my pen pal in early May.
This was the first time that one of Prince's women, so to speak, had made nice with the columnist who irritated the rocker into writing a song called "Billy Jack Bitch." (You can stop denying it's about me, Prince; your first wife, Mayte, spilled the beans in a magazine interview with D.C. celebrity journalist Jawn Murray.)

A tip was received Tuesday, and on Wednesday a Hennepin County court document confirming that Manuela had filed for divorce on May 24 was located.

Her rocker husband has an impeccable eye for a sweet, pretty, young bride but apparently no clue how to keep one. Or does he?

PR firm didn't know

Visions of gigantic Kobe-size diamond rings popped into my head when someone at a NYC PR firm for Manuela's company, Gamillah Inc., told me she didn't know about any divorce.

"As far as we know, it's not true," said Jessica Pollack of Alison Brod Public Relations late Wednesday. I had sent Pollack an e-mail seeking contact with Manuela, and then called for an official explanation of what Gamillah does. "I got your e-mail," Pollack said. "She's [Manuela] leaving for vacation for the next month. A nice long vacation out of the country, actually."

That's convenient

Pollack had no explanation for why court documents state that Manuela has hired divorce attorney Edward Winer. One thing's for sure -- with Winer billing the hours, Manuela will ride off with much, much more than a "Little Red Corvette." Court records ID Prince's lawyer as Alan Eidsness.

While both lawyers returned my calls, they didn't say anything worth repeating. What's the point of asking for the divorce file to be sealed if you're gonna yak about it?

With the file sealed, we won't be able to confirm little things like when Manuela and Prince married.

First, there was Mayte

Prince dumped his first wife, Mayte, a dancer, with some extremely bogus whatever verbiage about not needing a contract as the framework for their relationship.

Prince and Mayte married on Valentine's Day 1996 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Their union produced a baby boy, who sadly died from Pfeiffer syndrome type 2, a rare skull deformity resulting from a genetic mutation. In 1998 Prince announced that he and Mayte would divorce; then in 1999 Prince confused the issue by saying they hadn't divorced.

The Mirror reported in January 2002 "news on the mystery woman superstar Prince married in a hush-hush ceremony in Hawaii. The website for the purple pop star claims that Prince's second wife hails from Canada. According to the site, Manuela, who worked for Prince's famous Paisley Park complex, married the star on New Year's Eve in a Jehovah's Witness ceremony."

Considering Symbolina's alleged aversion to contracts, there was great suspicion about what kind of marriage he had entered into with Manuela. For a time I called Manuela his "supposed wife" and "Mrs."

In 2003 I reported a sighting of Manuela waiting in a truck, while Prince met his Jehovah's Witness proselytizing obligations by door-knocking in Eden Prairie during -- gasp! -- a Vikings game.

There have been rumblings about problems in this marriage since last year, even though they didn't seem to spend much time here. Just as word was out that they really were not getting along, in January the couple arrived hand-in-hand at Bellanotte for a romantic dinner in a private dining area.

Pen pals

Manuela first corresponded via FedEx with a thank-you note after a May 4 column item about her volunteer work with Free Arts Minnesota. The nonprofit charity's mission is to expose abused kids to the healing power of creative expression.

So I replied with a note asking about the "In a Perfect World" stationery on which she had written.

Another FedEx packet followed with information about the charity she founded. It stated that "In a Perfect World," which Pollack said is under the Gamillah umbrella, is a foundation "dedicated to developing compassionate, socially responsible leadership in children and youth that will address community needs and issues." The accompanying bio noted: "Manuela currently divides her time between Minneapolis and Toronto. She is married to Prince Roger Nelson."

She included another note, which ended "Your unlikely pen-pal, Manuela."

In a June e-mail Pollack, the PR woman, stressed: "As you already know, Manuela is a separate entity from her husband, Prince, and is doing some amazing work with her company Gamillah, Inc."

Stay tuned to find out just how separate their personal lives are. From the outside, marriage to Symbolina looks like it could be really hard work.

CJ is a gossip columnist, y'all. Her job isn't to be the next Walter Cronkite.

Prince is an easy target -- he takes his image super-seriously and is thin-skinned. He's like a front-row victim at a comedy show who tries to heckle the comic...

So, she returns to him because he's a MPLS superstar who does nutty things on the regular.

I don't see it as her having an axe to grind. I see Prince as having supplied her with tons of material during his career.

And, she still calls him "Symbolina" because it's immediately funny to most people, maybe not to his diehard fans. But it's funny, nonetheless.

Well CJ ought to know that what goes around comes around, she'll get it back. I don't think making a joke out of someone's life is comedy and calling them all kinds of names whether they get paid for it or not. They both need to grow up, Next thing you know we'll say "heeey, it's oookkkkkayyy!" for anyone in her position to start using racial/hate remarks towards others because "oh it's alright, they get paid to do it, it's their job!". It's funny how we allow certain things to be acceptable in our society, yet at the same time, teach our kids not to do the very same.

Just an FYI... This may have already been answered- but the Star Tribune in Minneapolis is 'the' paper of the city.. and consquentially of most of Minnesota. It's not a tabloid or anything like that.

though that CJ.. she has had it out for Prince for MANY, MANY years.. it's like a well-known hometown rivalry.. started because she kept jockin him too much and he cut her down and out as far as interviews and 'inside scoops'.. (hey she's not special.. how often DOES he give 'inside scoops'??)

Anyway- it made her DAY to report on it- and yes- it's confirmed as truth- KMSP news in Minnesota talked to court staff..

That's all the 'under' news I know..

I'm sorry... are we talking about the same woman here? The woman who (supposedly) got in the middle of another woman's marriage while that woman and her husband were having trouble and grieving the loss of their newborn baby? The uber-fan who (supposedly) got herself a job at Paisley Park just to get close to Prince and have a shot with him? The woman who was (supposedly) screwing a still-married man and wearing his wife's clothes? THAT woman is "too dignified" to do such things? Really?

Running a charitable organization doesn't make her a saint; it just means she needed something to do and wanted to help people.

I think Prince wanted her gone (and I wouldn't doubt he gave her good reason to want to be gone). He probably refused to file for the divorce for his own reasons (it does make him look like a victim, which he does seem to like, given all those "I've been wronged!" songs he writes when we know he's usually the one doing the wronging).

I'm just glad he woke up and saw the light. He's no innocent, but I do suspect she figured out how to get to him (and to help get him deeper into Jehovah, hoping it'd be a little insurance policy) and then played him like a fool.

I feel bad for them, that so much was destroyed in their pursuit of love. And Prince really did seem to believe, on some level, that she loved him for him. He deserves to have that. It's so sad -- doubtful that any of the women who seemed to truly love him before would ever take him back now, given how he treated them. (Still, any chance Susannah is an option?)

That said, I hope that somewhere, Mayte is Laughing. Her. Ass. Off. And Prince is re-evaluating his life and looking into some therapy so maybe one day he'll be able to let somebody love him and weather the storms without trying to look elsewhere ...

Prince's wife files for divorce
Jul. 28, 2006. 06:36 AM
ASSOCIATED PRESS

Just seen this while doing a broad search... Note the case was sealed on July 11th...

http://www.thestar.com/NA...h=A&E/News

MINNEAPOLIS — Prince's second wife, Manuela Testolini Nelson, has filed for divorce from the pop superstar, his lawyer has confirmed.

Patrick Cousins, Prince's general counsel, said Wednesday the case was pending. He had no further comment.

Edward Winer, lawyer for Nelson, issued a statement Thursday saying it was a difficult decision for his client to seek the divorce and that she hoped for a "co-operative resolution" and a quick end to the case.

The Star Tribune reported on its web editions Wednesday that the case was filed May 24. A court administrator told the AP the case was sealed on July 11.

Prince, 48, has rarely spoken publicly about his marriage to Nelson, who was born and raised in Toronto. The couple lived part-time there.

Astrologically speaking, this is what happens when you marry before you are 30.

Q: Ever notice 28-30 people are either getting married or getting divorced?

A: Because Saturn takes 30 earth years to complete an orbit. Saturn has to do with
The maturing process.Mayte called it quits before she was 30 as well.

30 signals the arrival of self and knowing who you are. The 20's are the years we experiment with life and discover our values. Depending on what sign her Saturn is, would indicate what type of way she matured.

Saturn Astrologically
Saturn is often associated with our fathers or father/authority figures. In childhood, the discipline, rules, and regulations imposed on us by our authority figures--from parents, teachers, and the like--were not always pleasant, but they actually helped us to understand the world around us. Similarly, Saturn's lessons actually help us to grow.
In the chart, the position of Saturn by sign and house reveals our own limitations, fears, and sense of responsibility. Saturn brings definition, and often limitation, to the planets it aspects.

{When Saturn Returns it's like asking you to clean out your garage, or your closet. As intense as it can be, it removes all the built-up clutter in your life to reveal a more authentic path and a more authentic you. Sometimes people leave your life, sometimes through death, sometimes through choice.

If you do a thorough job during your first Saturn Return, between the ages of 28 and 30, the rest of your life will be better and your second Saturn Return will be easier. If you fail to rise to the task at 28-30, your second Saturn Return, ages 58-60, when you are more deeply entrenched in an inauthentic life, may be difficult indeed. This is one of the reasons many people die betwen 58 and 60. They may not have met the challenges of the first Saturn Return and at the time of the second, the stress is overwhelming. One of the reasons I'm writing these articles is that, unforuntately, both of my parents died during their second Saturn Returns.}

Well to some of you...since Mani was so manipulative and sneaky about the way she snagged Prince... To me; He must have done something terribly wrong for her to seek the divorce..I mean, as some of you guys continuously state, she came between such a wonder marriage that Prince and Mayte had , why would she give up so easily if he didn't really wronged her..Now, if Mani were really manipulative, I would think that she would have pretended to want to reconcile AND GET PREGNANT, then file for divorce, ala Denise Richards... Unfortunately, I think Prince did something unforgiveable and he thought that Mani would forgive him and it backfired.. : : :

And for some of you who are hoping that Mayte is somewhere laughing her ass off, she is most likely sympathizing with Mani...."only a woman knows, only she knows"

Wow. You hate to see this stuff happen. But good luck to both parties here. I wish them the best.

Mariah Carey - I Don't Wanna Cry

Once again we sit in silence
After all is said and done
Only emptiness inside us
Baby, look what we've become
We can make a million promises
But we still won't change
It isn't right to stay together
When you only bring each other pain

Chorus:
I don't wanna cry
Don't wanna cry
Nothing in the world
Could take us back
To where we used to be
Though I've given you my heart and soul
I must find a way of letting go
'Cause baby, I don't wanna cry

Too far apart to bridge the distance
But something keeps us hanging on and on
Pretending not to know the difference
Denying what we had is gone
Every moment we're together
It's just breaking me down
I know we swore it was forever
But it hurts too much to stay around

Chorus

All the magic's gone
There's just a shadow of a memory
Something just went wrong
We can't go on make-believing

Chorus
