Interesting.

I am a football fanatic (go Dolphins!)and I am surprised he didn't do the 1992 Superbowl (which was at the Metrodome in MPLS).

I guess the stars were not aligned at the time, but I am interested to see what he does. cool

I'm a football fan, Go 'Skins. And it was great in '92 because they did premiere a version of "Willing and Able" that featured the Redskins and Bills. It was cool. My favorite performer and my favorite team. Just like in '89 when he did the sound track to Batman. My favorite artist and my favorite comic book character.

I don't watch the game, lately it's been a tradition that i make the vegetarian egg rolls for those that do.
I'd really love to see Prince play AMERICA superman for this (among other new tunes)

cool i'll be tuning in for sure this time during half time.

Hey Flash, wave

I'm a die hard NFL fan and a Prince peep too so this would be perfect. It tickles me to know that he'd have to pass my place to get to Dolphin Stadium.
Come on over P, have some cake and put your feet up! lol

*GO STEELERS!!!*
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Now, if my beloved SEAHAWKS can make it back and win it this time...Feb 4th 2007 could be one of my best days ever!

Right on! I'm from Seattle, so I'll be cheering them on too!

Cool. Back in Utah now, but I lived up there for 8 great years - '87 to '95. But that don't change that I still love our 'Hawks - Mariners, Sonics, and Huskies too.
Go Seattle!!!!!

I hope he doesn't, though. I think he could still make an interesting performance without singing those songs - again.

I have to make sure I am in Miami for any possible small club gigs he may do.

A three hour drive on I-95 and I'll be there.

geesh..what is with the sellout? its about one thing people, the bottom line, the almighty dollar! Like someone said above, nice pay for an easy gig cool

BTW, I used to think the performers got paid handsomely for appearing, but according to this article, they don't get paid any appearance money (just expenses). Instead they hope to make money indirectly (by increased CD sales, etc.)

http://www.usatoday.com/s...ment_x.htm

"With the exception of travel and production expenses, the NFL has never paid appearance fees to the Stones, Paul McCartney, U2, Michael Jackson, Shania Twain, Britney Spears, Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan, Diddy, Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Kid Rock or other halftime performers.

Why do they sing for free? For the chance to perform on the world's biggest stage. And their ability to cash in later."
"I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

The word is spreading...here's another article from EW:

I also saw a short one the other day that was pretty funny because they said if somebody pulled Prince's fly open and his dong fell out, that people would just go, oh well, it's Prince! biggrin

Hmmm, following his pattern of promoting 3121, does this mean a performances of Love or The Word or The Dance or Black Sweat or Incense and Candles?!! The only ones left...

Nah, I see Kiss, Let's Go Crazy and Purple Rain again. There's no way he'd do a big thing like that and not give them some hits like they expect, and those seem to be the only hits the band performs at the moment.

Prince's Superbowl Half-Time Songs should be America, Let's Go Crazy, & Fury.

He won't do America because of his JW beleifs. Maybe he will pull Pop Life out on all of em.

No, Picasso never stopped painting and therein lies one of his problems--Picasso's later work SUCKED. Part of being a good artist is know when to stop.

**I'm not saying Prince should stop making music, I'm just saying that your Picasso analogy is not supporting your argument.

wow! I'm no artist or art expert and perhaps you are but...to say one man's work sucked...is ofcourse your opinion and you're are entitled to it but..dang..that's harsh.
[Edited 7/25/06 9:40am]

She's right. It sucked. However, I'm sure those later paintings served a purpose and if Picasso, in his 80's, felt comfortable with them more power to him.

I think the Picasso analogy works well. An artist can create good art until they're no longer able to tell the difference. Even then, something of value to somebody might randomly surface. There's always hope that there will be a few moments of artistic clarity even if 5 to 10 years have lapsed between quality works. So, it would behoove Prince and fans of his music to go on making music until he can't any longer. Otherwise he should have stopped at Purple Rain-- the last time his vision was unquestioned.
