It cracks me up... there's always gonna be one part of Prince's fan base that says he should remain a recluse and only come out at night when he's ready to jam...

There's the other part of Prince's fan base that says he should really get out there and play to the public, get his cd's on the charts and promote his shit...

Then there's those who are never happy with what he does.

There's those who are happy with anything he does, too.

I'm just happy the brother is alive and still putting out the music. Thank you Prince, if you play the Super Bowl, I'll definitely tune the shit in!

The reason it doesn't excite you is because you KNOW that he's either going to do Purple Rain (and ruin it with blatant preaching), Let's Go Crazy (a solo and a lame "GO, GO, GO!" chorus) and/or one of the new songs that no one will know. Seems like whenever he performs for the masses on TV, he reverts to the same couple of songs to appease everyone. That's good for TV, but that's why WE hardcore fans don't get too excited. I'm glad he's doing it though.

Personally, I'd like to see him do a rippin' version of Star Spangled Banner or America The Beautiful. Mix it up, then if it's well-received he could release that as a single.

Maybe because we are growing accustomed to P showing up on TV alot more now.

He has been far more visible on various media outlets in the last 3 years versus him being in the shadows.

It will be a large scale deal, but it will be nice to see him perform.

BTW: The man has spent the better part of over 20 years doing the "artist marching to his own beat" thing, so I don't fault him one bit for wanting to be a bit more visible/mainstream/"selling out".

Everyone eventually wants to see their name in brighter lights.

He's never gonna stop playin'.... Did Picaso ever stop painting ??

wow...wow and triple wow!!
I'm excited and nervous and curious and all that shit! smile
excited about the mass audience appearance
nervous about that appearance, and nervous that knowing Prince (not really know him..but you know) he'll back out at the last minute
and totally curious as to what this means for the tour, 3121, rumors of wendy and lisa and all that...
I mean...seems as if a US leg of the tour starts in august (that's the rumor right?) that's like 7 months into it....would this be a big finale for the US leg and perhaps the start of the EU leg? Or maybe 3121 is dead in the water and all this wendy and lisa biz means some kinda re-masters or some crazy revolution reunion tour?!?!? UGH!
Gotta love being a Prince fan! smile

I can already imagine the future posts on the org:

"Why did P perform that song..."

"Did you see what Tamar had on.."

"Prince is a sellout (pt.2).."

Oh they're starting already. What kills me is, when they call him a sellout, a sellout to whom? lol Some fans act like Prince have to ask permission from them before he chooses to perform anywhere. Hey if you're one of those saying that, get this, Prince don't owe you anything and don't need your permission to perform where he chooses, so remember that. That's what I like about Prince, he goes against the grain and couldn't careless if fans call him a sellout. I believe he performed at AI on purpose to show some fans whose always saying "Prince shouldn't do this or do that", that he's running his life, not us. If he wanted chains on his hands and feet he would have asked you to put them on him. He's not your slave, so get over it!! That's right, keep throwing it in their faces Prince, because you can, and I love it!!!!!

It does seem too far in advance to find this out but I will b watching for sure! I find it sad tho that in that fark site, the people that obviously dont know anything about music can sit there and argue with people. Im glad theres people that know what to say to let them know, they really dont know what theyre talking about. Ive never been good at that but Ive always had to take up for him in my own way, this one guy in that fark site (dansomething) reminds me of so many people around here, just ignorant IMO. Anyway nice read this morning, Peace and love

Paul was paid $3.4 million 2 years ago and the Stones made almost $4 million last year so if this is true I'm sure this is about money as much as anything else.

Basically he doesn't have to pay for any staging or security or anything else and he can show up and make $4 million in a night.
Who wouldn't take that deal?

I don't know much about the reliability of sportsbybrooks.com (unless that's BROOKS from the SOTT era running it), and of note, the official Super Bowl site still has info about the Stones being the entertainment for the 06 halftime. So, could be true, for sure, but I wouldn't call it official just yet.

The Stones played the superbowl this past feb.....

Right -- that's what I meant by "...still has info about the Stones being the entertainment for the 06 halftime." The site hasn't been updated with any 2007 entertainment information.

On PTI (ESPN show) they were talking about it. The black guy (I can't remember his name because he is a sub for Mike) said "This is great!"

I can't understand why people think it's a sell-out move, It's a great move...think about it...he will be performing on the largest stage in the world...EVERYBODY IS WATCHING... biggrin

Do you think he will only perform 3121 stuff? We are so use of Prince performing his hits but over the last year he has only performed his current stuff...like the old days. Maybe he'll throw in a little Purple Rain??? I remember P was going to preform in '98 and '01 when the Vikes were on the brink.

I see your point, but, ultimately, it's a sad day when Prince is considered wholesome and safe enough to perform at SB halftime.

No, Picasso never stopped painting and therein lies one of his problems--Picasso's later work SUCKED. Part of being a good artist is know when to stop.

**I'm not saying Prince should stop making music, I'm just saying that your Picasso analogy is not supporting your argument.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

If they have the right mix -- and I believe they do -- the Browns could do something interesting this football season.

We shall wait and see. Can the Browns be the second team in a matter of a year to represent Cleveland in a pro sports playoff? I'd love to see the Browns finally make it to the big show.

For me being a huge Browns homer and a huge Prince admirer, Super Bowl XLI will be a perfect setting.

Yes, a bit harsh perhaps, but I do actually have an MA in Contemporary Art history and took an entire seminar on Picasso from Rosalind Krauss who is one of the most influential art historians and post-modern theorists of the late 20th century (plus she wrote an entire book on Picasso: The Picasso Papers)...so I'm not making that statement in a vacuum... (not trying to sound snotty, but you did sort of ask.) wink

But to look at it another way, even Picasso's suckiest later work is still better than a lot of other artists' best works. shrug I do like early Picasso, but the later stuff (I'm talking 1950s and 60s)--not so good.

And again--I don't think Prince's career is that comparable to Picasso's except for the fact that they are geniuses in their respective arts.

SELLOUT? Come on... He's done almost everything in his career 2 risk his popularity and his chart success... Name change, contract fight, u all know.
After Purple Rain, he did not release Purple Rain 2... He released Around The World In A Day. That record alienated many fans (not including me). If u name sellout acts, u should name U2 or Phil Collins... Great artists, but they have done anything 2 remain on top of the charts.
