I'm 35.

Judging from who I see in line for his concerts, I'd say its folks in their late 20s through early 40s.

I think the most hardcore are on the older end of the spectrum. They came of age along with Prince, and remember nostalgically both his and their youthful discoveries. They are the most aware of how special he was fron the get-go. You had to see what music was before he came on the seen to be able to truly appreciate how he changed it.
Come here, babe.. yeah...

you don't see many youngsters at the shows though, i guess they are all at the Chris Brown or Ne-Yo concerts....so i would say 25-50??

I'm 35, which I'll hazard a guess is the most COMMON age for a P fan. xplainyrself - since I can't b bothered, and ur all gung-ho about this, why don't you figure out all three varieties of averages -

Mean - which is the one you've been checking, but is easily distorted by a few extremes at either end (in this case, teens on the net, and oldies not).

Median - the "middle" number. I can't remember how you do this one, but I think you count how many figures (say 81), put them in order and then the median would be the 41st number (is that right?).

Mode - this is the figure with the highest number of entries. in this case I'd do a range; my guess is the mode would be 35-37 or 39, with 35 the single highest number of entries.

I'm 45 and have been a fan since his appearance on American Bandstand (pre-Purple Rain). I see a lot of people around my age range at his concerts.

I guess the 50+ fans really don't participate in the online fan community. xplnyrslf is the only person in this thread that's over 50.

Ok, ok. I was born April 15th 1967 shhh. You figure it out. I don't keep count anymore. You think about it, and it ages you. And I don't look my age anyway. I always looked young for my age. wink Oh, and I've been a fan since I was 17 in '84.
[Edited 7/16/06 20:43pm]

39's really not that bad. I'm telling you, the 40's ARE GREAT. Prime Time.I don't understand why you're agonizing over the next best 20 years of your life?

Maybe because I'm also an old Cure fan.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

As if I don't have enough to do; The median age is 34. The mode is 35 years with 9 entries. After Starfysh the mean is now 31.6. And don't come up with anymore bright ideas.

If u think prince is da funkiest cat around please!omg If u will let us go back 2 the 60's and seventies. Prince may have kept up the funk for another 25 years but he didn't become the king. Listen 2 George clinton, confunction, and james brown, they all are funk kings. If it wasn't 4 them, Prince wouldn't know what the hell funk was. hmph!

ConFunkShun is the name of the group and they do not belong in the class of pioneering funkers like JB, and Clinton.

ConFunkShun was tight but they came later and were as much R&B as funk. ...If we are talking FUNK before 1979 we should mention Sly & the Family Stone, Issac Hayes (Bar-Kays), Bootsy, The Meters, Mandrill, the Ohio Players, and may others.

I definately see Con Funk Shun worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as James Brown or Parliament when discussing funk from the 1970s. A lot of people pretend to know funk just because Prince made funk. A lot of the prentenders love to mention groups like James Brown or Parliament because they were introduced to them by Prince. Also, music critics have discussed these groups to death.

Real funk lovers know there was music just as funky, if not funkier, by groups other than the ones the critics have discussed to death. Groups like Con-Funk-Shun, Brick, Slave, Manu Dibango, The Brothers Johnson, BT Express, Sun, The Isley Brothers, etc.

I love Slave! Mark Adams is one of the dopest bass players I've ever heard. Ditto Louis Johnson.

I respect your opinion on CFS.

Aye, but I wouldn't call Con Funk Shun as relevant as James Brown or Parliament. True enough though, there were other funky groups in the seventies. Slave is most def one of my favorites. Mark Adams is one bad motha fro music headbang dancing jig
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

BTW - I bet if this poll was taken in 2003, the mean would also be at least 35...

There was a mammoth age thread a few years back -maybe someone can dig it up... (I'm pretty sure there's an age thread fairly regularly)
