Prince did what he got paid to do...perform. He wasn't paid to make nicey nice with people. I think if he did his job, then there is no reason for him to acknowledge anyone. He could have been backstage ranting and raving about how he didn't want to be there...am I right? But he didn't. He showed up on time, performed, and left. People expect too much.

Prince IS an arrogant, selfish prima donna, that's one of the things that make him a cool mofo! And has kept him in the public eye and led to a career spanning 28 years or so. You have to adopt that attitude to be up there with the prima donna likes of Madonna, Mariah Carey, Bowie etc.

Cowell can hardly comment on how Prince conducts himself, Cowell selfishly uses and abuses his acts, making money off them and then ditching them when they are no longer as profitable for him. That's a far worse attitude to have.

In my eyes, Prince saved himself on this show BECAUSE of his arrogant cool-as-fuck attitude, he showed that to be a rockstar you need to have attitude as well as a good voice. Being selfish with his career is one of the things that have given him longevity. The crowd cheered more for Prince than any other of the acts - nuff said.

EXACTLY! Besides, who cares what they are saying about him...the point is they are STILL talking about it.

Why is anyone shocked either by Simon's comments or Prince's behavior? It's very typical of both. shrug

All this shit about Prince being an asshole on AI is just tired as fuck. First off, Prince spoke to the contestants before the performance and the executive producer confirmed this. How is this being a dick? Second, Simon and the judges had NO CLUE that Prince was going to be on the show. Just a few people knew, including Ryan Seacrest cause he had to introduce him (or not introduce him). Sounds like Simon's jealous cause he had no control over him as if he was some contestant. He'd better recognize!

Plus, the majority of y'all have been fans of Prince for more than a couple of years at this point. DON'T Y'ALL KNOW WHO YOU'VE BEEN DEALING WITH ALL THESE YEARS??? Prince, for better or worst, is going to do what HE wants to do and if you don't know this by now then you never will. He may do things that are real arrogant and such but that's Prince for you. If you've dealt with it this long, then you might as well deal with it now cause it not going to stop anytime soon, unless it's just too much for you. Besides, that was tame compared to what he's done in the past. For example, the We Are The World performance at the AMA's in 95. I'm just shocked by all the shock over this. It's just business as usual. Plus, I don't think Prince is done with this project so don't be shocked if more weird stuff comes our way. Just a fair warning.

I don't think Prince was rude. He was a surprise guest (at least for me) he came on Prince-style, performed. He acknowledged the appreciation from the audience and left.

This way too much drama about nothing.

I rarely watch AI and I was surprised to see Prince, glad I caught it and didn't think a thing about his ending. I just enjoyed the performance.

When he is on Saturday night live, he performs and that is it. When he is on Jay Leno he talks a minute....it is a talk show.

So he didn't perform with an "idol" contestant...so what.

They obviously wanted him on the show; he was. He performed, he got coverage. Those of us that like to see him; we enjoyed his performance.

I like what you said, too. Prince could've had his band and played, but apart from that, he gave them the real deal.

I think Simon is doing this to perpetuate his image and keep himself in the news since Idol is done. He probably read every review and blog on Idol and saw that almost unanimously Prince was everyone's favorite part of the show.
Most people said the show sucked, the Idol singers sucked, the guest singers sucked. Almost everyone praised Prince.

Either that pissed Simon off because Prince stole the show, or he saw this as an opportunity to perpetuate his bad-ass image.

Either way, fuck 'im.

Ms. Cowell seems to be under the impression that her opinion matters as far as Prince is concerned. I'll say it like this - if WB couldn't bring him down, what makes you think Ms. Cowell can? If anything, it'll be like the Eminem phenomenon in 2000, and will probably sell more records for P. Thanks, Ms. Cowell.

Uh, don't count on it. I don't think anyone outside of prince.org cares that Cowell "put down" Prince.

As usual, it's always those that have done the least that speak the most. The day Cowell does something original in music, I will maybe pa a bit of attention to his opinion, but until then I think I'll leave him to his next packaged act.

talk to the hand Whatever Simon. Watch the video of the performance--Paula and Randy stood up and applauded when Prince came out; Paula was dancing and Randy was bobbin' his head while Simon just sat there, dumbfounded I guess. If Prince saw that, which it seems certain that he would, why would he even want to talk to Simon?

Simon's just trying to create drama out of nothing...another reason I despise the whole celebrity/Hollywood gossip mill. It perpetuates the infatuation with celebrity drama when there's really nothing to talk about. rolleyes

Its not about being rude and its not about being shy. Its about being true to one's self. Remember the Arsenio Hall Show (Diamonds and Pearls) - the only musical guest, performed several songs, changed outfits several times? Yet, not one interview or comment. No one, including Arsenio, got bent outta shape. It was one of the coolest events in television history!

Exactly, the "stars" he produces are puppets and pricks, speaking of which what on earth was Simon expecting from Prince, is Simon THAT ignorant to think that Prince would buy him a drink after the show or something.

This is so ridiculous. Simon Cowell not only brought us the AI dreck, but a number of other so called reality shows. He acts like a total butthole to a majority of the contestants, which I'm told is one of the main reasons people tune in, and he's complaining about Prince?
Kelly Clarkson didn't even acknowledge AI when she won her Grammys so I think Simon's wish for great attitude in Idol winners has already bit the dust.
Prince probably didn't even want to do the damn show, but he did it on his terms.
My God, it's not like he spit on someone. He did his thing, and he left.
But we all know what really pissed Simon off is that Prince did it his way.

P.S. And can we stop with all the R and B hatin'? It's like if Prince doesn't do straight up rock, then he shouldn't bother. If Prince had done Fury, 3121 probably wouldn't have done any better chart wise cause this audience voted for Taylor Hicks. This is an audience that has spent how many months watching this AI mess? And loving it?
Prince is just way too hip for the room. lol

It's not the first time he has put down prince. I think he was on Conan a couple of years ago and was playing a game with Conan. Conan would hold up pictures of two stars and simon was to judge which star was better. Conan held up a picture of Prince and Prince Charles. Simon choose Prince Charles because simon said Prince Charles still has a career.

Simon Cowell is the rudest, most inconsiderate bastard on television.

He does not have freeness of speech here.
