AMERICAN IDOL judge SIMON COWELL has turned his famous barbed comments on PRINCE after being appalled by the pop superstar's surprise performance at the show's finale last week (24MAY06). The PURPLE RAIN hitmaker took to the stage at the Kodak Theatre for a quick run through two new songs before dashing off, refusing to meet the Idol contestants or greet the audience. Idol host RYAN SEACREST has since reported that he feared Prince would be a no-show - because he appeared just minutes before he was due to hit the stage. And Cowell insists Prince's attitude isn't one he'd like Idol winners to display at any time in their career. He says, "It just tells you how selfish he is. So quick to put down a true American Idol. But what I think is interesting is that out of all the veteran performers/singers - Prince was the only one that had new material. All the others are still singing those old played out songs. Enter Prince...he had the joint bouncing just from the intro of the song. It's too bad that the sound was poor and made the singers have to adjust significantly. I love Al Jarreau and think he can be smooth as silk, but he didn't need to go Whitney or Alisha Keys on us. Dionne Warwick...did she sing any other songs besides "Thats what friends are for"? I don't wanna go off bashing. AI new what was going to happen. Prince has been doing "the walk" off his entire career. Did Seacreat think that he was Oprah? Prince blew off Arsenio Hall and all the other big named hosts and continues to. I do agree that he didn't look like he enjoyed being there. I feel the same way about watching it (I had to, my wife and kid made me).

If i was Prince i would have done the same thing, the show is so shit. It was torture just watching it.

I love it! I had lost a notch of respect for Prince for even appearing on a show like that which is so far beneath him. After reading that he treated the poeple on the show like they were beneath him, I've gained that notch of respect back.

As far as this Simon guy thinking this is not the type of behaviour he would like the contestants to have, well, that's his opinion. Hell, what's missing with stars today is that over the top "I'm better than you" attitude. Everyone is too normal and down to earth these days. Bring back the stars that actually look and act like stars. "Normal" people should have never taken over show business in the first place. That's why it's so damn boring these days.

On another note, Simon's the only thing worth watching on that show once the really bad singers are gone. From what I've seen of the show he's usually right in his assessments. Sure he could be nice about it but what's the fun in that?

The end of the day, as stillw8ing said, Simon got a dose of his own medicine - Simon uses wannabe pop stars and in particular this show to make himself big, I don't think he cares less about the contestants really - well, Prince used Simon and the show to progress his own agenda. See how they like it for a change! Used and abused.
