HA HA! And i was thinking to myself as I watched the video on HQ.com - "He's come such a long way since American Bandstand..."

Ah well, Simon Cowell's a jumped-up pr*ck anyway. WHat does he expect P to do? Give them all guitar lessons?

And Cowell insists Prince's attitude isn't one he'd like Idol winners to display at any time in their career. He says, "It just tells you how selfish he is. He comes on, not a word - 'I'm not gonna sing with anybody else, I'm not gonna say goodbye.' Thank you for your generosity, Prince."

I love it! I had lost a notch of respect for Prince for even appearing on a show like that which is so far beneath him. After reading that he treated the poeple on the show like they were beneath him, I've gained that notch of respect back.

As far as this Simon guy thinking this is not the type of behaviour he would like the contestants to have, well, that's his opinion. Hell, what's missing with stars today is that over the top "I'm better than you" attitude. Everyone is too normal and down to earth these days. Bring back the stars that actually look and act like stars. "Normal" people should have never taken over show business in the first place. That's why it's so damn boring these days.

So quick to put down a true American Idol. But what I think is interesting is that out of all the veteran performers/singers - Prince was the only one that had new material. All the others are still singing those old played out songs. Enter Prince...he had the joint bouncing just from the intro of the song. It's too bad that the sound was poor and made the singers have to adjust significantly. I love Al Jarreau and think he can be smooth as silk, but he didn't need to go Whitney or Alisha Keys on us. Dionne Warwick...did she sing any other songs besides "Thats what friends are for"? I don't wanna go off bashing. AI new what was going to happen. Prince has been doing "the walk" off his entire career. Did Seacreat think that he was Oprah? Prince blew off Arsenio Hall and all the other big named hosts and continues to. I do agree that he didn't look like he enjoyed being there. I feel the same way about watching it (I had to, my wife and kid made me).
A man came up 2 me, smile in his eyes
He told me I was a saint
So I'm quittin' my friends much 2 their surprise
I can't live up 2 the picture that they paint
Ah somebody help me, I'm losing control
I guess I'm just a sucker in the dream factory oh!!

Seems like AI's Simon Cowell is not a big Prince fan.

AMERICAN IDOL judge SIMON COWELL has turned his famous barbed comments on PRINCE after being appalled by the pop superstar's surprise performance at the show's finale last week (24MAY06). The PURPLE RAIN hitmaker took to the stage at the Kodak Theatre for a quick run through two new songs before dashing off, refusing to meet the Idol contestants or greet the audience. Idol host RYAN SEACREST has since reported that he feared Prince would be a no-show - because he appeared just minutes before he was due to hit the stage.

Simon has his head to far up his A$$ to know a good man/ artist when he sees one!!! so prince should not have treated the ppl like that and yeah he has a bit of an ego but that gives no reason for simon to go bashing him but P "Tisk Tisk your better that an attitude like that"

I didn't think the sound was poor, sounded okay to me. It has been said that Cora, Josh and Morris were playing live in the pit somewhere, that it wasn't a backing tape, so there might be a certain amount of disconnectedness. As for Prince not enjoying it, I didn't see anything in his performance that actually suggested that. He had that fantastic sly look as he walked on, sort of 'yeah - it is me!' and continued to sing and dance with gusto and smiles on his face. At the end he was all smiles as he accepted the applause. The walk-off at the end was clearly planned, as clealy the twinz had rehearsed it - did you see how they interlinked arms and sashayed off a few steps behind Prince like 2 I Dream Of Jeannies following their master? Too cool for school.

Question, is anyone really surprised by Prince's actions during the appearance? He's Prince. Prince will not pull a Barry Manilow and massage the performers and hosts. Asking him to do that would be like asking Miles Davis to exchange friendly banter with Johnny Carson and Ed McMann following a performance on the tonight show.

Nobody can question his talent and ability but to act
like he did was appaling. Why did he go on the show?
'Cause he wanted the exposure.AI didn't need his appearence
that night to draw in viewers. If the show was beneath him to
the extent that he didn't want to talk to 1 person connected
with the show then don't do it.
I personally think he needs a slap in the back of the head
and somebody to tell him to cop on.Act like a grown up.
If he doesn't want to act like a mature adult then dont turn up
and act like a spoilt prick..

If they didn't need him then why did they ask him to be on the show. They supposed to be this phenomenal show that everybody wants to be a part of, if Prince is such a has-been and he wanted to use the show to promote 3121 then why didn't they turn HIM down and say no we don't need you. As far as his personality is concerned, why should he pretend to be something he's not. I wouldn't kiss nobody's ass either. Either you want me to be a guest on your show or you don't.

Ms. Cowell seems to be under the impression that her opinion matters as far as Prince is concerned. I'll say it like this - if WB couldn't bring him down, what makes you think Ms. Cowell can? If anything, it'll be like the Eminem phenomenon in 2000, and will probably sell more records for P. Thanks, Ms. Cowell.

Uh, don't count on it. I don't think anyone outside of prince.org cares that Cowell "put down" Prince.

My point is that when a person does what Ms. Cowell did, it often has the reverse affect.

1st Corinthians 10:14 "Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry."

First, where one of the most public jerks gets off critiquing someone else’s behavior is quite beyond me. That Cowell thing doesnt deserve to draw breath.

Secondly, when Prince released the picture with the text ‘1st Corinthians 10:14’ I hardly think he was making a connection between the Biblical tract and the name of the show simply to be coy or use the opportunity to promote Christianity.

I think he was saying, ‘Flee from American Idol’. I think he was saying, through the reference to 1st Corinthians 10:14 and through his behavior at the show, that American Idol is trash. Flee from it and the purveyors of it.

I don’t think he was simply being arrogant, I think he was making a definite statement.

Well done P. cool

Since when does being a performer mean you hafta shuck and jive and smile in people's faces? He did what he came to do: perform his songs. He doesn't have to do anything else. Just because he chooses not to speak doesn't make him an ass. If he'd flipped the audience off, that would make him an ass. Silence is golden peoples!

Simon choose Prince Charles because simon said Prince Charles still has a career.

WTF??? What a prick. No class at all. disbelief

Oh come on! It's just comedy (or a cheap attempt at it).

On another note, Simon's the only thing worth watching on that show once the really bad singers are gone. From what I've seen of the show he's usually right in his assessments. Sure he could be nice about it but what's the fun in that?

I think there's always good reason to be an ass! Where would music culture be now if the Sex Pistols weren't asses on TV?!

The end of the day, as stillw8ing said, Simon got a dose of his own medicine - Simon uses wannabe pop stars and in particular this show to make himself big, I don't think he cares less about the contestants really - well, Prince used Simon and the show to progress his own agenda. See how they like it for a change! Used and abused.

- yes, I didnt like Prince´s performance, but I agreed with Prince´s behaviour.
The concept of AI is the opposite of Prince´s when it comes to music and recording companies. He used AI to promote 3121...nothing more than that.

THIS IS ROCK AND ROLL!!!! prince isnt a ass kissing 'role model' type celebrity wholl have a sing-a-long with a bunch of prime time reality tv nuffies! Hes smart... hes using it for marketing and promoting his new material by putting on a professional show for the viewers including the hosts, contestants etc.

I dont know mucha bout the arrangement hed made with idols producers etc.. but tell me prince wouldve done that performance any other way???... He would never conform to such lame media etiquette. Hes always said his music speaks for itself and that's that.
