I hope he does 2. :-oMy father happened to be in Vegas the first time Prince decided to do it calling me at 1 am with his cellphone in the air. ~LOVE IS GOD~

So tix are $411 according to the Twinz article at HQ??
Fuck that!!! As expensive as Vegas is, it would seem that Prince has lost touch with his fans, ala Madonna. A weekend in Vegas to see one of his shows would easily cost 2k with transport, accomdations, food, etc. I was just in Vegas for 2 days, and just the flight and hotel cost me 1300.00. The premise of the gigs sound cool, but I can only stand being in the land of silicon titties and barbie dolls for a weekend every 6 months.

It is possible to change the way people do Vegas. I know if I were him I'd rather play a certain club for a while than go from city to city. Besides, they only said it's for the summer. it could be true. people my mom's age follow vegas shows. i'm only 29. i ain't that desperate for entertainment yet. vegas has been pretty trendy for younger people for a few years now. of course there's the whole disney-esque aspect that is geared towards an older demographic, but these days the hip scene caters to the same group you see doing NOBU in New York, Milan, or London. it's kind of weird, but cities like vegas and miami beach always come and leave the fashionable set in cycles... first they're "underground" hip, then they're buzzing, then they become crowded as hell and reach commercial overload, the real estate goes through the roof then plummets, they lose favor, then they hibernate for 15 years or so only to start the whole cycle all over again...happens with Palm Beach and Cabo too, and a couple of ski destinations in Colorado as well. if anything prince probably isn't putting himself out to pasture so much as catching the tail end of being in the country's current hot spot.

I just don't see anything wrong with Prince performing in Vegas for an extended time. I think it would fun to plan trip to see Prince in Vegas. It would be a blast.
Hey, Elton John performed there for a while?? And look at the Brat Pack and Frank Sinatra: they performed there, and weren't they still in their primes as performers? As far as Wayne Newton, I've heard that he is extremely talented as a musician and vocalist. I've never seen his show, but I heard that the guy is very, very talented, so I'm not going to disrespect him. Sure there was Elvis. He performed there when his career was on the wane. But that's not true of everybody. I bet that Prince is just tired of touring. It might have taken its toll on him, so it would be nice for him to have this permanent home. Then his fans can come to see him at least for a little while.

I don't think this would be true in his case at all, I'm sure he's paying for the club and can do whatever he likes. If you haven't noticed, he usually does things HIS way, not the way the 'biz' works. I HATE AI, but he did it on his terms, no using him for promotion, no having to share the stage, got the last slot with the most exposure, did his thing and strutted out. [Edited 5/27/06 3:47am] when prince went on the musicology outing in 2004 it was a contractual obligation that he perform hits. that is how he managed to get so much sponsorship for the tour. when an organization/business invests money into an artist's act that is precisely what they are doing...investing. they need to be assured you will have draw. the general public does not have a high interest in prince's new material. they want to see the hits live, not 3121. this is illustrated through sales of recent records versus sales of concert tickets. yes, prince does his own thing -- when he's on his own dime. you can bet your bottom money if this casino is paying prince's salary over the summer, they are getting hits. but, we'll see tonight...

The answer's in the question! Ah, his live show was once described as "Liberace on acid". This is what you're left with when the acid wears off. - Great answer, Unremarkable

I do not want to make a "pilgrimage" to Las Vegas to see Prince in some schmaltzy "Prince & Friends" Las Vegas Review. -I do not consider 1500 general admission spots "intimate" -I do not want to see Prince's superstar (e.g. The Time, GCS) friends -I really hope the price is not $312.01 for all these shows... ...first AI, now this. So Prince will have shows there, probably with some old friends (Tony M, Carmen Electra, Apollonia) and Larry G playing an exclusive 2 h set as the opening act. He will charge a lot of money for it, and the best aspect is: y'all will buy tickets!!!
Seriously, I'm with Handclaps on this - I'll wait how it turns out and make my judgement then.

Living in Vegas, I can state that being a "Vegas Act" isn't what it used to be. Unlike the old days, there are recording studios in town and it's a place where rather than touring, current mainstream acts can spend time here, record, play shows, and live. Most major cities have cheaper flights to Vegas than other cities and it may be a good fit. Except for the prices. I saw homeboy 5th row at the house of blues back in 2004 in Las Vegas for $79, so I can't justify the whole $312 thing.

This is totally different, it's not a tour, it's some club dates with a possibility of it becoming more than a few nights. From what has been said, this is an independent small nightclub, not one that's in a casino.

It's pretty much been over since the mid 90's. Prince has had some high points since then, but they've been much fewer than beforehand. It seems like he is becoming a bit more money-hungry lately, which he has had a bad habit of for years, clouding his judgement.
Don't forget that he signed that "$100 million" contract with Warners in the late 80s that led to the whole name change/SLAVE/losing masters debacle...it was all his fault and based on wanting more money. Becoming a Vegas act would be another step away from artistic integrity. He should just retire if he is bored, but don't keep lowering the bar over and over again in an effort to keep a healthy cash flow. He made so much money on the Musicology tour that you would think he would just chill, but guess not.
