Simon Cowell blasts Prince Seems like AI's Simon Cowell is not a big Prince fan.
http://www3.contactmusic....ndex40.htm COWELL BLASTS PRINCE Also see: AMERICAN IDOL SIMON COWELL PRINCE PURPLE RAIN RYAN SEACREST AMERICAN IDOL judge SIMON COWELL has turned his famous barbed comments on PRINCE after being appalled by the pop superstar's surprise performance at the show's finale last week (24MAY06). The PURPLE RAIN hitmaker took to the stage at the Kodak Theatre for a quick run through two new songs before dashing off, refusing to meet the Idol contestants or greet the audience. Idol host RYAN SEACREST has since reported that he feared Prince would be a no-show - because he appeared just minutes before he was due to hit the stage. And Cowell insists Prince's attitude isn't one he'd like Idol winners to display at any time in their career. He says, "It just tells you how selfish he is. He comes on, not a word - 'I'm not gonna sing with anybody else, I'm not gonna say goodbye.' Thank you for your generosity, Prince." 30/05/2006 20:23

Does Simon ever have anything nice to say about anyone? Oh, I forgot...he gets paid to be like that. Man, Simon was lucky to be in the same room as Prince. He should be the one thanking Prince.

Well, I don't know about attitude, but Prince's talent isn't likely to be displayed by any Idol winners any time in their careers.

I think Simon was right.
Prince did come across as a prick to all connected with the show. Nobody can question his talent and ability but to act like he did was appaling. Why did he go on the show? 'Cause he wanted the exposure.AI didn't need his appearence that night to draw in viewers. If the show was beneath him to the extent that he didn't want to talk to 1 person connected with the show then don't do it. I personally think he needs a slap in the back of the head and somebody to tell him to cop on.Act like a grown up. If he doesn't want to act like a mature adult then dont turn up and act like a spoilt prick..

Yes but Cowell was right about that performance....a poor choice of song which had no passion and and then he just arrogantly strutted off with a "fuck you " swagger.
If he didnt want to do it then don't do it..I dont believe that the Record Company made him do it...this is the guy who often doesnt show up for things or changes his mind at the last minute - not appearing on a show he openly detests wouldnt be beyond him. Half arsed

Prince IS an arrogant, selfish prima donna, that's one of the things that make him a cool mofo! And has kept him in the public eye and led to a career spanning 28 years or so. You have to adopt that attitude to be up there with the prima donna likes of Madonna, Mariah Carey, Bowie etc.
Cowell can hardly comment on how Prince conducts himself, Cowell selfishly uses and abuses his acts, making money off them and then ditching them when they are no longer as profitable for him. That's a far worse attitude to have. In my eyes, Prince saved himself on this show BECAUSE of his arrogant cool-as-fuck attitude, he showed that to be a rockstar you need to have attitude as well as a good voice. Being selfish with his career is one of the things that have given him longevity. The crowd cheered more for Prince than any other of the acts - nuff said.

classic prince | |

Perhaps Simon was expecting Prince to join hands with Dionne Warwick in singing "That's What Friends Are For" ?

So...how's everybody doing?

Maybe Simon should take a good look in the mirror before he blows off his big mouth.

I think there's always good reason to be an ass! Where would music culture be now if the Sex Pistols weren't asses on TV?! The end of the day, as stillw8ing said, Simon got a dose of his own medicine - Simon uses wannabe pop stars and in particular this show to make himself big, I don't think he cares less about the contestants really - well, Prince used Simon and the show to progress his own agenda. See how they like it for a change! Used and abused.

Simon Cowell?? anything he says is to promote himself, the man is to music what Police Acadamy is to the movie industry. Successful but suck.
Prince... no intro? Walking off without saying a word?? As THE TIME once sang.... C...OO.....L. Now what's that spell?? “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

I agree here, if he was Mr Nice Guy on American Idol, it would be very sad.. BUT, wouldn't have been kind of cool to see Prince do "Take Me With U" with Katherine? With her big old APPOLONIA APPLES hangin' out? ______________________________________________

I think that based on the posts up 2 this point, the majority favour Cowell... I'm another. Now as much as I can't stand the oversaturation of reality TV, there is still a manner to how you present yourself no matter how high and mighty you or other ppl believe you are.
Prince don't need 2 prove that he has rock star status by being the prick that rock stars usually are. His choice of songs were dynamic IMHO, being upbeat and slow - two totally different extremes in which contestants are ALWAYS tested on. Prince just showed he could do and has done both. He came on and kicked ass but didn't have 2 be an ass about it - bottom line. As 4 the person who wrote that AI didn't need Prince for ratings - well said. He wants to be free? He's gotta remember that ALL successful artists are SLAVE TO THE MEDIA. They are the ones who will make you but will also be the ones who will BREAK YOU. Prince better remember a line he wrote - "One more card and it's 22" ya heard...? 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

Simon doesn't like U2 either, so he's not exactly the best judge of rock stars.

Yeah.....THIS from a man who "handpicked" Il Divo. What else of theirs did he pick?????
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
As EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW BY NOW, THAT's TYPICAL PRINCE!!!!! Simon probably wanted him to sing "Purple Rain" with one of those.....I'm glad Prince did HIS THANG!!!!! If he pissed off Quincy Jones back in tha day, what makes U think he gives a FLYING F**K about Simon????? CASE CLOSED!!!!!

This is a real Rock Star attitude. In your face Simon my arse !
I prefer this attitude than the ones of many rock stars who act like if they were cool and generous and happen to be real arrogant assholes in real life. What you see is what you get with Prince. Simon is just upset that Universal managed to have prince in the show at his conditions and not at theirs. That's all. " Je serai toujours de retour bande de mods à la con de mes deux " Moi - 2007

I don't think you're making a strong point at all. If you are not reactionary then Prince presented himself in the best way possible. Rock N Roll is all about attitude arrogance and swagger, it's the surest way to break boundaries. If you are boring then you probably wish P had stayed for a chat and kissed Simon Cowell's arse.
