VEGAS GOES PURPLE AS PRINCE TAKES OVER CLUB

http://contactmusic.com/n...26_05_2006

Pop superstar PRINCE is set to make Las Vegas, Nevada, his home this summer (06) as he negotiates a residency at the Empire Ballroom. The reclusive PURPLE RAIN singer is in talks to take over the venue after informing venue bosses he wants a "real intimate setting" where he can perform and host shows by his own up-and-coming artists. A spokesman for the Empire Ballroom insists Prince will invite a string of superstar pals to make surprise appearances at his new Sin City home. Prince will make his 3121 live concert premiere at the club this weekend (27MAY06) and then hopes to temporarily rename the venue Club 3121 for planned shows this summer

Of course - he announced he would be touring at the press conference last year ... so, the odds are high that it was all bullshit.

I'm sorry, but I think this news absolutely SUCKS.

I do not want to make a "pilgrimage" to Las Vegas to see Prince in some schmaltzy "Prince & Friends" Las Vegas Review. hmph!

-I do not consider 1500 general admission spots "intimate"
-I do not want to see Prince's superstar (e.g. The Time, GCS) friends
-I really hope the price is not $312.01 for all these shows...

...first AI, now this. disbelief
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

perhaps folks should hold off and wait to see exactly what else entails from this, as opposed to immediately going into "oh noes, he's dooooomed!!!"-mode.

might be more to this than meets the eye...

I agree this news, if true, is awful! Prince already did the las vegas show thing with one nite alone and took it worldwide. Do we really need another similar jazzy/vegas affair!

Its also bad news that we wont see a world tour. Especially since it was said at the beginning of the 3121 hype that Prince couldnt wait to get back on the road.

Artists, eh? Wonder if he has more in the pipeline? After Tamar's album is forgotten about, can we expect more from the Prince (dream-free) factory? hmmm

Maybe Prince wants to take a break from tour travelling. Touring takes a lot of work and can get fatiguing at times. He's being doing it for a very long time. shrug

if this is true and prince has become a vegas act, count me out. it was fun while it lasted (a long 22 or 23 years) but, as prince himself stated, "all good things, they say, never last."

though i agree, lets not forget where there's smoke there's usually fire. do i have to point out that the rumors flew about american idol and even after prince's people and AI's people denied the rumors, low and behold, there's p on american idol.

Wow. Never thought he'd sink this far.

What a year 06 has been for Prince. Releases a MTV reaching pop debacle, plays American Idol and now he's going Vegas.
No hard feelings.

The only way..ONLY way this works for me is if he treats it like he did the Paisley Park gigs where you never knew what he would play or who would show up...and FUNK IT UP.
IF it goes the other way in that it is a "hits revival" show. Nope, not me.

i'm thinking this is the closing chapter in an otherwise brilliant and intriguing career. barring the occassional rare appearance in LA, NY, and Vegas(when tickets will be twice the amount they are now), i'm starting to think this is the end. maybe he just doesn't have it in him any longer. in the end it's his life and he gets to play it however he chooses. who are we to tell him how to live it? and on a more macabre note, hopefully nothing is wrong on the health front...i'd hate for this to be his way of doing one last hoorah.

in order for a vegas venue to agree to the crazy fee an artist of prince's stature would require, you can bet performing "the hits" are in the contract. i wouldn't be surprised if specific hits are written into it. that's just how the biz works.
