I assume this is world wide?

It's still a stretch I think.

Do the downloads of the CD count toward sales too? When I saw the 1.1 million so far, I was like, yeah right... biggrin

What downloads? I don't think it's been released digitally yet (officially that is, ie. Itunes, npgmc etc)

It seems like a reasonable figure to me: 400,000 US + 400,000 Europe + 300,000 rest of the world (guestimate figures)

it's either world wide sales or maybe units shipped? it's not U.S. sales, that's for sure.

Right -- there are single downloads on the club's site and in iTunes, but otherwise there hasn't been an official "download" release. You can buy the album as a download on some sites for like $4 or so, but I don't think there's much that's legal about it. All sales to this point are physical CD sales.

Maybe they're including the number of leaked copies obtained online before the release date. biggrin

sorry to disappoint but its actually sold a hell of a lot more in europe than in the u.s., it hit no 1 on the euro chart, its sold just shy of 100,000 copies in the uk alone, its sold even more in germany. I think if he tours europe with this cd, sales will hit 1.5 million easy.

It doesn't seem too much of a stretch. Checking out the Global Albums Chart, if you follow Prince's run, it is as follows:

Week 1: 285,000 (#2)
Week 2: 178,000 (#5)
Week 3: 120,000 (#10)
Week 4: 97,000 (#19)
Week 5: 73,000 (#18)
Week 6: 55,000 (#37)

That gives an estimated total of 808,000.

Here is the chart methodology listed on the site for the albums chart.

Chart Methodologies
Album-Chart
THE TOP-SELLING ALBUMS ACCORDING TO GLOBAL SALES DATA AND NATIONAL ALBUM-CHARTS
OFFICIAL NATIONAL CHARTS FROM USA, JAPAN, UNITED KINGDOM, GERMANY, AND FRANCE WITH REAL SALES DATA
OFFICIAL NATIONAL CHARTS FROM CANADA, AUSTRALIA, ITALY, SPAIN, BRAZIL, MEXICO, NETHERLANDS, SWITZERLAND, BELGIUM, SOUTH AFRICA, SWEDEN, AUSTRIA, NORWAY, DENMARK, FINLAND, IRELAND, ARGENTINA, CHILE, COLOMBIA, VENEZUELA, NEW ZEALAND, MALAYSIA, POLAND, PORTUGAL, HUNGARY, CZECH REPUBLIC, SLOVAKIA, GREECE, AND SOUTH KOREA ARE WEIGHTED TO THE SIZE OF ITS MARKETS ACCORDING TO THE LATEST IFPI-STATISTICS
(EXCEPTION: ALBUMS WITH HUGH SALES IN THESE COUNTRIES ARE WEIGHTED HIGHER)

Keep in mind these are worldwide figures. The RIAA certifies albums platinum for U.S. shipments only. That said, I'm sure the album will do at least 1 million worldwide if it has not already passed that benchmark. As for the U.S., I think 3121 will go gold easily, and could go platinum if he promotes it properly.
