New topic PrintableI like to see him get his props, which are always going to be less than he deserves and long overdue, but I don't think 3121 is anywhere near his best work -- or even especially GOOD work-- and I selfishly wish that people would ignore him so he'll do more small-venue tours. It must be really strange for the Prince fans who don't like this album to see it at number one. In the past, it's been so easy to pick on albums that weren't generally successful, but this has not only got the backing of most fans - but the general public too! It's been a long time...

The question now is: Do you think Prince will get more 'experimental' (and NOT with a vocoder!) on his next album? Or will he swing for the pop charts again? "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Agreed. Charts don't mean a thing. But as a vehicle for getting a few more unlikelies to hear his music and start digging around for earlier stuff, it's got to be a good thing. And this album is good. Plenty of his die hard fans jerked off over Musicology in 2004 but let's face it, it is crap! Even though Musicology is more accessible that NEWS or Rainbow, it's not as exciting sonically. 3121 IS exciting and is accessible too. Just as long as he is higher in the charts than James Clunt!

I dont care much for charts....my fave Prince albums werent #1, but I gotta give props to Prince because he is one of the few ´old´ acts from the ´past´ that could make it ON HIS OWN.
Whitney Houston, Madonna, etc are always in the charts because they are helped by hot producers, heavy payola, remixes made by hot DJs, etc. They don´t even write their songs. But Prince wrote, produced and arranged 3121. And the production doesn´t sound dated on most songs (different from Rave) Congratulations, Prince!

It's funny, a lot of people say Prince should modernise his sound by hooking up with a hot producer - but now he has a number one album, he IS a hot producer! People are gonna be head-hunting him to modernise their sound!

I was hoping that this album would sell more then Musicology week 1. I know Musicology had 20,000 giveaways week 1 but from what I'm reading on here more multiple copies of this album have been bought looking for the purple ticket then the concert giveaways.

This is cool, but I gotta see if the album's any good. I'm really skeptic with TRC and MUSICOLOGY ultimately being letdowns after getting past the warm fuzzies. test

Fauxie said: You're saying you don't think money makes a difference to the music? Dirty Mind sure sounds different to 3121 doesn't it?
gotta remember though, ol' boy did things a helluva lot more differently back in 1980, and did dm for a perfectly different reason than just to get money alone. Commercial success for Prince means more or at least different opportunities surely. That is relevant to you as a fan. I'm not saying it's important to you as far as how you rate the music, but it's relevant you as a Prince fan.
it still isn't. | |

Don't feel bad, I got spoiled by the intimacy of the whole thing, and got kind of upset about having to share with so many.

rainbowchild said: loudawg said: Wrong! Decent first half (setup). Brilliant second half, tension filled, and an unpredictable, incredible ending. Had the audience gasping for more. You think the ring will get him caught by the police, because it didn't go in the water, But this ain't no Hollywood film. It's the most intense, truest philosphical statement ever... Woody pulls the rug out from under you, proving that luck is blind. In a game like tennis, with rules, the ball coming back at you is a lost point. However, since life has no rules, and no God/justice, the ring coming back at you can be good, or bad... It's all luck. Brilliant film. Noticed you gave Big Momma's House the same score. I just gotta laugh. [Edited 3/29/06 4:31am] But you have to ask yourself, does he really need to do what he did?? That was outrageous!! You don't go killing people these days just because some girl is carrying your baby!! Let's agree to disagree. And if you want to discuss movies further, come see us at rottentomatoes.com. We can discuss movies!! Back to topic, still on a high that Prince is at #1!! It happens every day though. People kill eachother for getting pregnant, paying child support, everything. It's not as far fetched as you think it is. Plus, consider this. The main character can be seen reading Crime & Punishment in one of the early scenes. It's obvious he got the idea for the murder from that book and copied it exactly. "You don't exist again. It's all taken away from you. Even for the richest, happiest and most beautiful people, they move into later life and get old where things start to break apart. They don't exist anymore and they will never exist again."
