No I will spell it and you will turn it into a sentence to show how it works.

Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

There's all kinds of theories flying around, take your pick. Some say it's because 3+1+2+1=7. That's his number, as we all know.

I have my own theory. I think he saw it in a dream.

I'm really happy for Prince. We dig him regardless of charts, but I myself have been waiting for him to please others as well. It's good 4 him 2 do well on the charts becoz he's amongst the best.

Also, for myself, around the symbol album I started to become concerned about Prince, and after then I kept listening...still diggin' his music. But I can say I really enjoy 3121 so far.

This boosts his inflated ego as well, so lets hope he doesn't go deeper in2 the daddy pop vibe.

keep funkin' Prince lockdance

Just a quick thought, It does make sense that 3121 would quickly rise up on the daily charts cause the fan base is loyal and said fans can stop on the tuesday or wendesday coming or going from workor whatever. . I dont see many Fans are waiting for the weekend so i could easily see 3121 stalling a bit.

It would seem to me that the weekend when the Mall Kids are outand about could easily keep that Disney thingy on top.

Good points....But here's the question: When was the last time a Prince album has sold so quickly at this rate? Musicology sold a legetimate 190, 000 plus copies with the hype of a tour and a media blitz backing it up...The purple midget has made just one TV appearance....Something very different is happening here...I went to a Starbucks (who is also selling the album) and the shit was sold out...Now I don't know about you, but a lot of folks that may not even be into P are picking up that album at fucking Starbucks; That aint the man's fanbase.....Is 3121 gonna sell 4-5 million copies in the US? Probably not...But the way things are lining up, 3121 looks to be his biggest-selling album in years...And that's huge for a dude who was considered commercially irrelevant....

Ay Murph

Good Point But I disagree a bit, After Musicology and the tour last yr.

His former fan base probably goes to Starbucks everyday!?

Maybe someone at Universal finally figured out how to sell an estblished artist?!!

Respect....You hit it on the head with Universal finally figuring out how to sell an established act....But here's the thing: Is Prince's fanbase going to a Starbucks to buy his album? I say no....I say Prince's fanbase is going to the record stores and online sites to buy 3121...They already have it...

But you know who's copping his album at Starbucks? The record buying public who were not really checking for the midget in the first place, but heard the music blasting over the speakers; the general music public who saw the album on the rack while they were getting their cup of coffee...And the former fans who were not even aware that Prince had an album out....

These are the same mostly "high middle class" folks that brought a shit load of that last Ray Charles album, which was also featured in Starbucks...This is some different shit here...

Kudos..

What i meant by "former fans" im talking about the fans that were there for purple rain and the other "popular" stuff the mid 80s. Then kinda didnt hear about princes music That what i meant by "former"

Then they jumped on the tour o rama of musicology.

Now with memories in their head, and coffee in their hands,

a lil hmm Midget in their sight"?

Im starting to think that Universal may not have needed to ad/promo this!

Alright Prince. You go! dancing jig woot!
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I hate to say it, but do you think the reason behind the successful sales is the Purple Ticket contest? If people are buying several copies with the hope of winning, then that would definitely bump up sales. Prince is so smart!

Imperator

Listened the whole week to this damn album and I'm still hooked. Prince is in rare form again and proofs that he's still enchanting the people.

"Black Sweat" is a NEW classic! And "3121" is the perfect syntax of the "Rainbow Children"! I like this one much, much better than "Musicology".

I'm with you. I've been playing it non-stop in my car and at my house (can't play it at work). I give the ENTIRE CD about 10 spins-plus a day -- every day since Tuesday.

I am listening to it right now and will be until I fall asleep ...then again when I wake up.

And it still thrills me. lol I'm so happy, I can cry. I hope this does really well on the charts...I've been encouraging people on my other websites to buy it...

This album, as I've stated extensively so many times before, was going to debut in the Top 5. When it comes to musical LEGENDS such as Madonna, Paul M., Sting, Bruce, etc. People tend to wait on the albums vice acquiring singles, especially "concept" artists such as Prince. To all the Prince.org community I find it surprising that you find it surprising. Prince orchastrated a methodoical, well-executed plan to get back in the spotlight. First the awesome year of 2004 that crept into 2005 introducing his new music while recognizing his old. Then the strong deal he got with Universal especially on the marketing end, followed by what I am sure will be a string of appearances and maybe a tour in the near future. I am happy for him. The hard part is how do you keep the album strong with the steam it has generated. That is where radio play may hurt him (or help him if the tide changes). But if you're a Prince fan, you will likely be content with the fact that it proves that real muscians still stand a chance in this era of highly manufactured music and "canned" artists. My prediction is the album will hit #1 or #2, hang in the top ten for maybe 2-3 weeks following and follow a trend that is similiar to Madonna's and Bruce's albums. But that is still good news for someone who has been in the music industry for almost 30 years.
