FURY is unbelievable.. Between Black Sweat and Fury, I have totally forgotten about TAC. This is it, I felt like something new and inspired got into him after seeing him at the Fillmore and seeing Fury reinforced it. Unreal, feels like the old days...
Also, I really hope he keeps the band stripped down like this. Im kind of tired of all the horns and I prefer a small band with an emphasis on P's guitar. I even thought the twins and tamar were great on backup. Really exciting time.

me neither, except that ending breakdown with the bass and funky guitars and it was cool to see him dance a little during the song... it's been awhile

I have to agree...even though it's the standard SNL routine to bring in "The Real Whoever" to crash the "Recurring Skit About Whoever"...that skit didn't deserve a Prince walk-on to make it look better than it was. The whole night I felt sorry for Steve Martin -- what a long fall from the SNL glory days.
Neither of the songs was too impressive, but I did like the guitar in "Fury", especially when he let it ring out at the end and left.

Am I the only one who didn't like it? Not that the song itself was bad, but I dislike it because it sounds like a Jimi cover -- I dislike it in the same way I dislike PrettyMan b/c it sounds like a James rip off.
Oh, and the band was soft (except for P's guitar), and I didn't think the girls could sing. Dancing was OK, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with Tamar's voice during the second song. And Steve M. pronounced it TAY-mar.. I thought it was Ta-MAR. Whatever - pretty forgettable. [Edited 2/5/06 1:13am]

Great first performance, but as others have stated, i didnt watch the show to see Tamar. I have nothing against her or the song, but I Watched to see Prince, not see Prince try to sell us his latest protage.

"Fury" was the shit, powerful. "Beautiful Loved & Blessed" was alright. Was I the only one to hear Prince say "May 2nd" after he announced the release date of the album. Could May 2nd be the start date of the tour???

Well, well, well. Seems that this performance has quieted even the die-hard old-time Prince fans. Everyone is getting along. Hercules, Hercules!
First, let me sum up the first performance in three words: OH, MY GOD!!!!! By the end of that song, I was just about on the edge of my seat. That was the kind of solo that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. (If Lorne was pissed about Prince performing the show, then he's an idiot) Just one question, though. Well actually two: First, is the trio of girl singers Prince's answer to the Game Boyz, a la female style. Damn, make a gay boy wanna switch. They were an odd yet interesting complement to the expericne. Second, who is this song about? The easy money is on Manuela, at least to my ears, but it could also be about Mayte, or it could also be about Rhonda Smith. I didn't notice her in the band tonight. Then for the second song: Beautiful, Loved and Blessed is a good song, and it's one of those few religious songs that I can get into these days. It doesn't emphasize on the lyrics, and leaves you to listen to them and get what you want from them. The only thing here is that Prince seemed a little overwhelmed by Tamar. I couldn't understand much of what he said during his first verse, but he got his confidence back, and by the end, that little FUNKY finish (like he used to do circa 1982) more than makes up for anything that happened. So, what is the story between Prince and Tamar? I saw some thread that implied that he is "with her", but that doesn't seem to be coroborated, even with these one-off performances he's been doing. Let's just say that there's definitely an undercurrent to this new music. He does seem to have shed at least part of his JW image, and it comes out in the music. There may also be some issues with him and the newer members of NPG, but can't substantiate this. But with Wendy & Lisa and other older musicians on this album, there's just something goin' on here. He seems to have taken the supress button off again. And when Prince is unsupressed (along with being older and wiser and happier), look out. This album is going to go down like a modern-day Sign Of the Times.

I was a little disapointed that Prince didn't do a skit with Fred. Why even do a "Prince show" when he is on the program if Prince wasn't going to show up like "Bitch that ain't how I act!"
But I did like the songs and when I first saw him on the show I was like "OMG the doo rag! Gangsta Glam anyone!!???"

i thought that would've been made evident by the set, clothes, etc. obviously some thought went into the whole performance even the director knew what was going to happen check the camera angles -- everyone was ready and look how they kept the guitar sustain in the audio mix long after the video had faded out quit with the made-up rumours, people (or at least don't spread 'em) [Edited 2/5/06 2:01am]

Was it me or did Alec Baldwin look very uncomforatable standing next 2 Prince at the end credits knowing that they used to both bang Kim Basinger??? I know I would feel a little awkward. And why the hell didnt Prince participate in the "Prince Show"...what an ass!!! I'm disapointed!!!

Just thought that was tacky. ...that's why I don't dig Prince any more. Granted, the first song rocked, and yes it did sound like 'All Along the Watchtower'. Hold on - that supposed to be a JW reference? Deep, man, deeeeep. But then he goes on to showcase the chick with the boring song and it's a yawn. And he calls out the release date at the end. Have some dignity, man. In the old days I think he could've written a new "Erotic City" practically in the Green Room, and amazed everyone. Brought the house down with a grooving sexy jam from outer space. But he calls it like this these days. It was nice of him to put Tamar front and center, and certainly I'd rather listen to her than say, Carrie Underwood. But nice isn't art.

It's impossible for him. He hasn't done it since 'I Like It There'. And wasn't that done in Florida somewhere? Some little shit studio? That's why that song rocked.

But nice isn't art. i just think at this junction in the game, prince needs to concentrate on himself if he want to make the charts and have a hit single or whatever he needs to drop the attitude and basically play the game. he still wants the applause and kudos on his own terms, but thats not how its going to happen. I like the Guy and have been with him for bout 20 yrs now. but if he ever wants to reach the top of the pops he needs to play the game.
