Okey dokie folkies, here's some piping hot fresh gossip for you all concerning Prince's appearance tonight on SNL:

Allegedly, Prince was written into and was scheduled to be a part of the Prince Show sketch but it got changed at the last second because allegedly Lorne Michaels got pissed at Prince tonight because Prince did an "unscheduled" or "unapproved" song (guess he was originally going to do something other than 'Fury'??) and for walking off the stage like he did at the end of the song.

Sooo, the word is that Lorne got his panties in a wad and Prince is now banned from SNL.

Like I said, this is just gossip at the moment but it came from a fairly in-the-know source. Time will tell, though.

IF it's true, well, Lorne is just a big dumb whiny pussy and instead of getting all Nazi about Prince walking off the stage and for doing an 'unapproved' song, he ought to be on his knees thanking the universe Prince agreed to be on his increasingly lousy show in the first place. smile

did you actually watch the show then? Am I crazy? That was Prince

Um, yes, I actually did watch the show.

Let me clarify for you: IF the gossip is true, Prince was supposed to have done a different song than "Fury", but instead played "Fury" at the last second instead of the originally scheduled - and approved by Lorne - song. Then, later during the Prince Show sketch (which came AFTER the 1st song, if you recall) Prince HAD BEEN supposed to appear in it but his part of the sketch got cut and they did it without him because Lorne was pissed. Prince was allowed to perform his second song, however, because apparantly Lorne wasn't going to go that far and not let P do his second song.

Prince being banned from the show, IF that is even true, pertains to the future.

Understand now? smile

Yeah, I think it's just gossip. Don't know why Lorne would get pissed. Even if it were an unscheduled song. It kicked ass, and it wasn't offensive or anything. And after the Ashlee Simpson fiasco, surely Lorne would be cool with anything a real musician like Prince should choose to do. And it ain't like exposed out Tamar's breast or anything.

Also, I saw the commercial before the show, and it looks like a clip of the performance, so someone knew what was going on.

And then you have to imagine Prince's reaction if he were written out of a skit. He would have walked out on the show and not done the second song if he got any beef from doing the first one.

Makes for an interesting story nonetheless, whether it's true or not.

Didn't this happen with Elvis Costello back in the day?. I dunno, with the flame lighting, and the snippets in the commercial, it seems like this was rehearsed in advance and they were all aware ahead of time.

Yes, I believe that was the issue with Elvis, as well - that he did an approved song and made Lorne mad.

This latest gossip regarding Prince's performance tonight, imo, is probably 90% confused untrue rumor with maaaybe 10% grain of truth to it in there somewhere; maybe Prince did do something that upset Lorne but probably isn't as big a deal as is being rumored.

And you're right, I agree that that first song seemed way too prepared and perfect to be a spontaneous off-the-cuff thing.

Did your "fairly-in-the-know source" happen to mention where the afterparty is happening? wink
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

And after hearing the second song I like that too. I guess I'll get her album and check her out. Hell might as well I have Carmen Electra's and Mayte's albums neither of them can sing. Atleast this young lady can.

But at least you can look at Carmen and Mayte and not want to puke.

murph

First performance was killer...You could hear the Hendrix influence just from the vocal phrasing alone...(half talking/half singing cool-negro swagger)...He murdered the guitar...Here's the thing with the second song...It doesn't come off "live" very well...Reason? The actual track uses the "Impeach The President" break beat (get at me all you old school hip-hop heads) for its base...It gives the track a rougher kick than using actual drums...It's sort of like playing "When Doves Cry" without the Linn...Just doesn't sound right...The actual "Blessed" track comes off much better on record than on live performance...Without the beat, "Blessed..." sounds like a greeting card commercial...Certain sounds on record cannot be duplicated by traditional instruments...As for as Tamar, I saw her at the New York show...she has a very strong voice and a look that screams sexy ass diva in training...I think she would do well to get at The Touch of Jazz folks for the R&B and Prince for the rock oriented shit (That "Red Headed Step Child" shit is the track that should have performed on SNL)...Overall, Prince threw a serious curveball that was well worth the wait...

The show sucked as usual but as expected Prince turned a lemon into lemonade. Both performances were kickass, especially Fury. Man he KILLED it with that guitar and hopefully the same kind of power will be reflected on the CD. If what WillyWonka says is true then I pray that SNL gets cancelled real soon. Forget Prince, the show just needs to be put out of it's misery already.

This person didn't even know the correct name of that first song Prince played tonight! lol

First of all speak for yourself.

Second, I don't need to like the way the girl looks to know she has singing talent. Looks are beside the point where talent is concerned.

Third there is nothing wrong with the way Tamar looks.

Fourth, stop being a troll.

My immediate impression of the first song was that it sounded alot like 'All Along The Watchtower' did anyone get this?

Also, I kept having Vanity 6 flashbacks with the backup dancers.

Fred looked nervous at the end..

I would of loved to hear 'Black Sweat'..

Good to 'see' him. One thing about being a P. fan is that you cant really ponder whats next for too long, you just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Love wins. (Seen on bumpersticker)

I knew from a source of mine that Prince wasn't going to do Black Sweat and I was told that it was going to be hot so I wasn't surprised. If Lorne was pissed then it was our gain because we got another glimpse into 3121. And like someone said earlier, Prince would have up and left if Prince found out that Lorne was pissed by his performance and was trying to ban him. Prince don't play that shit with NO ONE. Prince ROCKED it and that's that's all anyone needs to know.

I quite like the performance of BLB. That's the first time I'd heard it. Tamar's voice was a little ragged at times, but I look forward to hearing the album version.

I've been watching the clip on HQ, but only streaming. Is there a download of it somewhere yet, other than Tom's (that I can't do now as I already downloaded 'Fury' from his other link)??
