Hey, i won't deny the fact that dude did ok here in the states. Did I dig his music? no.... It was way to prepackaged. But was he the flavor of the month? Yes, he was...luckily it lasted all but a month at the most, and more for the hype of that Rock DJ video than anything else. Just goes to show you that we'll listen to anything once. All I'm saying is that prince is credible enough that if he got major push from a good record label, anything he brings out would gain acceptance in a major way outside of his core audience like us who know what he is capable of anyway. In Robbie's case, it was performance over musicianship. Sad, but true. Luckily, he wasn't the flavor of TWO months. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

Still, the best he could manage was a #41 on the US charts. Even trendy flavors of the month do better than that. I agree that Prince should do better than RW did with heavy promotion. But the music buying public is fickle. [Edited 1/30/06 10:33am]

This is not an absolute, of course, but wouldn't you agree that most consumers nowaday are fickle, but are not music buying, but rather "performance" buying? If that statement wasn't true, then how the hell could you ever...EVER explain Britney Spears' success? Uh oh re:
"We xpected it 2 b leaked online (because everything from Universal gets leaked eventually)." I hope this isn't a sign that Prince may be unhappy with his label - AGAIN. Granted the circumstances are completely different, but nonetheless, he doesn't need public animosity surrounding him again.

They basically want something they can relate to, sing along to the chorus and have fun. They don´t care if the song is well played. I am 31 now, and when I was 15 I didn´t have this sophistication. I liked many bad artists... I just think it´s time for Prince to be well succeeded in the adult marketing. People like Sting, Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder still sell very well. It would be cool if he got a piece of the pie, without compromising the quality of his music. [Edited 1/30/06 15:22pm]

There was a list like this "leaked" before Rave came out and basically none of it happened. I would imagine that how much of this happens depends upon sales success of the album.
The last list didn't include the Purple Ticket which would be awesome but its doubtful any of us would win.

[Edited 1/30/06 15:22pm] Look, it sounds as thought my quotes are being taken as statements that are absolute and encompass the mass majority. No, that would be a mistake on your part to read it like that. If you don't raise your hand in class, you're less likely to be called upon to give your answer, right? That's just the way it works. That, in a nutshell was what I was trying to convey. With this new label proposing many avenues of "distribution" or "shoving stuff down people's throat" whatever, it makes the 3121 more consumer friendly by making it more in your face. Ifyou see it advertised through all kinds of venues, you will at least give it a listen to or wonder about it at the very least. That's what prince needs, if the goal is to strive for cd sales. There are alot of things that are being proposed by this current record company. If prince were to go along with it, many others outside his older group of hardcore fans and those who have joined the ranks over the years can actually see what all the hub-bub is about. And there's nothing wrong with that. Look, kids are fickle...but very...and I mean VERY few acts come out of obscurity these days. Mainstream acts might feature them (launching them as it were) and then let the new act fly on it's own. Or they are custom-produced to fit a possibly forseen trend, be it POP, Boy Band, Girl Band, Hard Rock, whatever. Then there's the class that prince is in. He's established, there's no need to establish him with a young group. He music, however, needs to be exposed to teenager. Most teenagers and younger groups will not seek out acts like Prince, it just seems like too much work. Again, I said, MOST and NOT ALL. Of course, for all of us here on the org and for those who listen to his music and appreciate the guy for his talents, the proposal of all these outlets for 3121 is just icing on the cake (not counting an more likely than not tour). But for those who have heard of the guy, but never really dug him or heard his music, then this possible massive push is just what is needed. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

I became a fan in 93, because I heard the Most Beautiful Girl in the world on the radio (and asked a friend to record some Prince stuff for me), and I would never seek for Prince back then (actually I heavily disliked him). There are some very young orgers here, even some that joined because of the Musicology tour. That´s why I am happy to see that Universal seems to have a nice marketing plan. His music should be exposed. But I still believe they will try to market Prince for the same audience of Sade and Sting, not Britney and Linkin Park.
