Since the last Prince album with this kind of promotion was such a steaming pile of mediocrity, will those fair-weather fans return? I really don't think so.

I hear what you're saying. But regardless of whether or not the fair-weather fans really dug the last album, the Musicology tour reminded a lot of people of Prince's greatness. And because of that, I think many people will be inclined to give Prince another listen... provided the new music hits hard enough to keep people's attention... unlike Te Amo Corozon.

Prince only needs to do one thing on that list for the album to be a big hit and that's go on Oprah...in the 80's getting heavy rotation om MTV used to be the big thing to do now its to be on the Oprah show....

Ok, 1 half of me is estactic that this may be happening but the other half, you know, the one that's been spoiled by the hardcore afterparties, ONA-type concerts, etc., is having a temper tantrum. Im happy that Prince is coming back publicly...commercially...whatever stronger than ever but can't help but feel like musically he is far away again...sigh Like the private jam's and stuff are well...fading away. It's sad...I sound like a possesive fam, but I dont care. Commercial Prince just isnt as fun as Private-make-fun-of-award-ceremonies-Prince.

sigh

At least he is going on tour though! smile Something to perk up about.

I may be blasted for this but I don't care. After reading that list I honestly believe that if Prince follows it, his album will be commercially successful. How can it not be. It would be literally shoved down the public's throat. The die hards will be there for him anyway and would definitely enjoy the ride, but those mindless young MTV'rs will grasp anything that is "shoved" in their face.

Unfortunately, this is the way it is nowadays. And as for Robbie Williams, whoeve it was that posted his face and stated that he would have been successful, remember, for a short time he was. He was at least the flavor of the month when Millennium and Angels was out. But "flavor of the month" is common place nowadays. That's why there's so much throwaway music. Now, I ain't saying prince is gearing up some throwaway stuff (god, I hope not) but where being risque in the early 80's got people's attention, now blatant exposure in the media gets you the same results.

If only a handful of the proposed items from the first post are done, then all is well. It should be successful on that alone, sad to say.

I would prefer to merit success on musical level and ingenuity. In that respect, Prince would most always fare well.

But, that's not the case nowadays. It must be force fed to young bucks who, unfortunately, wouldn't know good music if it wasn't slapped against their ears, and would barely recognize it if MTV said so.

It's just so "Josie and the Pussycats" nowadays. Watch that movie and you'll know that I'm talking about. Funny thing, that movie didn't do well in the theatres. I wonder why not...then again, maybe I really don't.

i am not trying p1ss on anyone's chips, but sales notes are to be taken with a pinch of salt. i work at a record company and these things are basically cut n paste jobs. you just change the artist and project name. they usually come on several flavours;

International Superstar campaign

Domestic Priority Campaign

Mid level MOR / Urban / Rock / enter genre here Breakthrough Campaign.

i'm sure some of it will happen, but don't take it as fact. and that's without factoring in Prince's flakyness.

-----
I am not sure why every is so skepitcal. Sony did a good job promoting the last project and I am sure Universal will do a good job with this. P's days of selling 10 million copies are over but if he can sell a few million and put out an enjoyable CD it's great.

Let's do a little dance for the peacock ass artwork! woot! Nonetheless, I can't wait. I even had a little Prince-y dream last night. He stopped dying his hair and I told him, "You look really cute with some gray in your hair." He said, "You do, too," then winked at me. biggrin

Wow! All of this for an album that we all know is going to suck, just like every album (except exodus, gold experience and come) he's released since 1989.

Don't neglect the last part that says...

*** "Nothing is confirmed..." Says Spokesperson of Prince's camp NPGMusicClub.

Though they (NPGMC) stated that: This is a "wish list" Universal created and is using on a sales page 2 start taking orders from retail for the new album. We xpected it 2 b leaked online (because everything from Universal gets leaked eventually).

But again,
"NOTHING is confirmed yet" *** - Says NPGMC

FIRST: kudos on the SPACE GIANTS avatar thingie....

2ND: it is not so much that i am neglecting it... i just think the whole thing is a big fat lie. that prince had not even seen that info and that it was all made up almost none of it is planned or in the works.

Every so often we do something right smile.

In the late 90's MTV had pretty much proclaimed that he was the next big thing to hit the US. Specials, interviews, award show performances, the whole nine.

He came, we saw, we sent him back.
