Yeah,

Te Amo Corazon and Te Amo Corazon Pt. 2 (Mo' Hornz Version).

falloff Damn that's cold but unfortunately I wouldn't doubt it. Leave it to Prince to do something real stupid.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I think SNL pretty much sucks but I'm gonna watch it that night. I already know the skit they're gonna do with Prince, a real (*yawn*) Prince show with the real Prince and Beyonce (Beyonce is in the movie Steve Martin is promoting). I bet it's gonna be unremarkable.

As far as performance wise Prince is gonna rock, he couldn't be much worse than the Strokes last night, that singer was absolutely a posterchild for lip synching.

Electric Chair in 81?

Prince cancelled an appearance since 89 - David Spade tried to smear Prince with some kind of weird message to Prince on the show that Prince cancelled. Real hatefull. I have disliked David Spade ever since.

Rock On Prince !

David Spade wasn't on SNL in 1989. I didn't consider myself a longtime hardcore Prince but maybe I am because I remember that actually happening in like 95. I was real excited that Prince was gonna be on there and remember being confused when (was it Blues Traveler) showed up. That was the days before I had the internet so I couldn't be kept up to date. Anyway his kid was battling for his life and David Spade was a real prick for commenting on it when he didn't have the facts straight. That stupidity should be thrown in David Spade's face whenever he gets out of line.

you know it is not that prince would not LET him... Prince has no say in the matter... but that Al asks if it is okay... but ONLY as a courtsy. The fact is PP send Fread a letter saying the LIKE the show... and you must KNOW by now that PP = Prince.... Prince likes "the Prince Show"

I always thought Weird Al needed permission from the artists because he was changing the lyrics to their songs. I believe a straight cover doesn't require permission from the songwriter, but once the lyrics are altered, then you need consent. Is that right?

It WAS in 1995, can we all agree on that?

And all Spade did was refer to him as "the artist formerly booked on this show, but flaked on us." This is such a big deal? We're all so hurt by this that David Spade is now a "hatefull" prick who can't get his "facts straight", and he was never funny, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc....Put down your rattle and take a nap.

no... he dosn't need it. he would have to pay for music (like any cover) but that is it.

This is where I usually start flaming because a huge pet peeve of mine is people "who can't get their facts straight". Mayte wasn't pregnant in 92 or 93 no. 1, no. 2 David Spade wasn't doing his Hollywood minute bit in 92 or 93, no. 3 Blues Traveler wasn't a major act in 92 or 93 (even though I admit I'm not sure if it was Blues Traveler, that's just what my "first mind" tell me. It could've been another act popular during that period though.) No. 3 it wasn't 92 or 93! lol

Weird Al's does parody songs. The law is different than for a regular cover song that altered the lyrics. He doesn't have to ask.

oh wow he's probably going to do that rediculously boring slow song rolleyes! Saying he's going to rock the funk and kick ass is hilarious nowdays. It's like saying you can't wait to hear John Tesh or David Hasselholf get down on it!

He'll do at least 2 songs. I doubt they'll both be slow.

mmmm hmmmm yeah Prince NOT doing a slow song is like James Brown NOT performing I Feel Good!! Prince would make a much better Host than a Performer on that show IF he does those long, drawn-out, coma-inducing slow songs! ZZZZZ*Wake me when it's over*ZZZZZ!! I would much rather hear him talk anyway, and maybe read someone else's words instead of his own. I'll watch JUST to see what he's wearing, what kind of crazy get-up he gonna have on this time? And to see his cute little booty of course smile.

But if you are using the same melody and the original songwriter is listed in the credits then you would at least need permission from the publisher, no?

No, that is the messed up thing. ANYONE can cover ANY song they like. Without ever asking anyone. They would have to pay a fee... but you do not need any knid of premission.

now most major companies required their acts to get premission but that is not a legal (copyright) issue but just a courtasy (sometimes backed up with civil contracts and agreements)

there was an interview with prince where he talks about this issue (Ebony i think). he says something like "i can't take a page from a steven king book and put my name on it. i can;t call it "prince's shinning."

It's one thing to be so negative, but do you have to be so unfunny too..?

It's just so very boring.
