Chaos and Disorder appreciation thread My copy of it finally came in the mail 2day. And I listened to it. I was jamming to it. This is really, really good shit. It (should) appeal to those who like Prince's rockier and bluesier sides. Really good material here. Probably the weakest thing on here I Rock, Therefore I Am, but it still wasn't bad(I'm not counting Had U, that was like another Orgasm). Really, the only thing I have to complain about is that it is so short. One thing I noticed, tho, was that it is probably his angriest album of all time.
Anyway, this thread is for supporters of this album who love it. No haters are welcome. I'd really like to see how many orgers like this album, because for some reason I can't comprehend, it gets a terrible rap. Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

Musically it's corny muppet show Prince, IMHO. But what's up with the grungie artwork??

c'mon doc, Had U is way better than Orgasm

I've always loved the album. The first four tracks are great and "Into the Light"/"I Will" are absolutely beautiful songs. "Zanalee" is also really fun and catchy.
I do feel it could have been a lot better with the exclusion of "Dig You Better Dead" and "I Rock...", which seem very out of place. Also, "Zanalee" could have done without the voiceovers (still it's not ruined or anything) and a couple more strong tracks should've been added. There was a wealth of good songs Price could've used at the time. With those few changes, C&D would've been terrific. I've never thought of the album as a contract filler in the sense that the songs weren't well crafted, I've always felt like song selection and the attempt to make a solid cohesive album weren't made.

Chaos is an amzing album.
Very underated esp in this place. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Very underated esp in this place. I agree. For me, it's the last Prince album that I truly loved ( they're a few after that I like but can't say I love). Now that I think about it... it's been awhile since I last listened to it. Time to give it a spin.

It was the last great guitar album by Prince.
It gets trashed alot, but I always thought the songs should have been disbursed throughout the 3cd Emancipation project. Really hard rocking stuff, BTW, I agree with the DUBD and IRTIA being out of place on the album. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

I've said it before (and been ridiculed for it)... the first 6 songs (Chaos-Zannalee) is up there with ANY sequence of P songs in my book...
I know most people hate "Right The Wrong" with a vengeance, but I love it!

I know most people hate "Right The Wrong" with a vengeance, but I love it! The album has a great under-produced throwaway quality to it and I mean this as a compliment. I love some of the punky attitude and sounds that he hasn't used since Dirty Mind/Controversy. Dinner With Delores is one of his best singles ever. It's sublime, clever and a pop classic. The lyrics are a metaphor for his WB battles. Anyone have the great thread that broke down the meaning of this song. It was one of the best analysis of his lyrics I've read.

Spin Magazine ranked this album as one of the most underrated albums of the year. It got lost in the whole WB dispute (no marketing, promotion). Can't an album be a contract filler and still be good? Prince has too much integrity to release an album that isn't at least an attempt at something interesting. I don't count NPS as a "Prince" album per se.

I'd really like to see how many orgers like this album, because for some reason I can't comprehend, it gets a terrible rap. I really dug that album too! Like i tried to say earlier,TAC is a very weak song that shouldve been kept in the vault.EXTRAORDINARY from the album"the vault" wouldve have been a better single to release at this point in time.I want him to come strong with something new to blow out all these phony artists out right now.You all gotta admit, theres alot of "SHIT" playing on the airwaves right now! CHAOS AN DISORDER would probably be a hit right now if it had been released THIS year, dont you think?Let me know how yall feel! JUNEBUG!

I always liked this album.
I absolutely ADORE Into the Light and Same December and Right the Wrong. I could do w/out I Rock, and Dig you better Dead. Those are seriously the only "bad" songs on the whole album, I think it's a HIT! I always figured that it got lost in there between double and triple albums and never got much of a chance. I feel like if people would go back and give it another shot they would appreciate it more. This year woulda been the perfect time to rehash it, since there was no new material to deal with. It kinda reminds me of Controversy, short sweet and to the point. Maybe Prince fans got so used to an overabundance of triple albums packed w/mostly so-so material w/a few hits and a lot of misses, that they didn't know how to handle an album full of hits???? I dunno, whatever the case, this album ROCKS, in my book!

It is a great album, I loved it since the first time I listened to it in 96 (my bro copy, bought it last year)
Lot's of good memories with that one. <----Prince fan since "The Beautiful Experience" 'A pillow covered in all our tears'

Question, who is rapping on "I rock therefore..."? I think he is the same guy on "Da da da" on Emancipation. 'A pillow covered in all our tears'

Chaos and Disorder is his best record since Lovesexy (This ofcourse is assuming The Black Album is placed chronologically before Lovesexy where it belongs) All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

Yeah, it's the same guy. I think his name is Scrap D or something. He wa also on "Mr. Happy". That makes 3 good songs he ruined.

I can appreciate this album
Chaos& Disorder, Zannalee, and Dinner with Deloris are all great tracks in my humble opinion If you will, so will I

"I Like It There," "Zannalee," and "Same December" -- those are the gems
Some of the other songs aren't too bad -- but I could do without most. A straight-up rock album would've been much more welcome.
