Well, he doesn't exactly have a kick-ass punkfunk song like "Party Up" in his more recent songbook...

He'll probably just do a medley of "Let's Go Crazy", "Te Amo Corazon" and "Kiss" then, coupled with a horn section and a quest appearance by Christina Aquilera (or any Smackdown wrestler).

Everytime P is on T.V he puts on a good performance. He is not a slacker when it comes to performing.

I wish this were true lol I was not digging "Musicology" on Leno - that shit fell flat, sorry to say whistling

Girl, you crazy! 'Ol boy rocked it on Leno! lol
I think that's my favorite version of "Musicology". The horns were on point.

it was 81 he did Party Up... that ep is famous too because one of the guys got fired for saying the F word during the closeing credits...

it airs from time to time on Comedy Central..

Prince also said "Fightin' war is such a fuckin' bore" in that episode right? I think Morris used the F-word also when The Time was on the show.

Noooo Prince said "firging" i have seen it many times,,,

i think you over rate them both,,, "Party Up" is cool because it was from so early... "Electric Chair" was cool because he picked that over "Partyman"

One thing I'd bet the farm on - this is just the first of many TV appearances. I bet he does the Leno-Ellen-Oprah circuit.

OMG. I'm so fucking excited. Even though I think SNL is lame, I'm happy that P is putting himself in the public eye again. I HOPE HOPE HOPE he brings the FUNK! headbang guitar

AND I live in New York! Super excited--I just have to figure out how to get inside & find out if there's an afterparty... biggrin I don't suppose the NPGMC will be of any help--but it'd be cool if they could get a block of seats for members....

i'm glad he's doing this 3121, on that date. it's going to be successful then, astrologically speaking. i liked the whole frida/art connection with te amo. who knows what he's going to offer with this album... maybe funk added with accoustics. if he gives an interview i'm waiting for him to talk about his fans and his wife more than anything else, i think.

Co-Sign P tore it up on Leno, Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, MuchMusic and Ellen. I am begining to wonder what some of you expect from a 5 min t.v performance. Most performers half-ass on T.V. but P always puts on a good performance.

Dorothy Parker/Madhouse on Leno was one of my all-time favorite Prince TV performances. Any ideas where to pick this up? Are there any Prince TV compilation bootlegs out there?

Oh ye of little faith. Just tune in and enjoy the ride.
And if nothing else, just thank your lucky stars Prince is not MJ. He may not grab the headlines like MJ, but at least Prince is still thought of as a serious musician, not a total joke and freak show.
All I'm saying is things could be a WHOLE lot worse. Prince will be Prince. And at the end of the day, that's pretty damn great, even if you're not always feeling his music.
Oh yeah, one more thing: dancing jig

ah.. for me this'll be the proverbial "car crash that you don't want to look at but can't turn away" scenario..

after being sufficiently UNDERWHELMED by the quite tame "te amo corazon"
[wow, Prince can say 3 words in Spanish - IMPRESSIVE. he can proudly add this to his impressive foreign language repertoire which of course includes "vous êtes très belle"..]
I am WISELY going to lower my (already quite low) expectations of the little purple man's performance. I'd be quite pleased (& shocked) if he played anything before 1990, but I'm not holding my breath on this (again, "low expectations").. I KNOW, I KNOW.. "prince is not living in the past"..
but THE PAST ('89 & before) is where his BEST & MOST CONSISTENT GOOD MUSIC resides.

As for Fred Armisen, the SNL crew has GOT to do a "prince show" skit.. especially with P being there! as great as it would be to see P
BE
on this skit about him.. again, I have ABSOLUTELY NO EXPECTATION that he would agree to it. you know, "serious musician" & all that he is. he never let Weird Al do a parody of any of his songs, so I wouldn't expect that he'd be cool with an SNL skit about him either..

in fact, I would not be surprised if the little purple man had a "relapse" & insisted that no 1 in cast/crew approach him or speak to him unless P approached/spoke 1st..

in any event..
should be interesting.

just like that car crash.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Prince cancelled an appearance since 89 - David Spade tried to smear Prince with some kind of weird message to Prince on the show that Prince cancelled. Real hatefull. I have disliked David Spade ever since.

Me too .. Spade acted like a real Prick.. and from what I remember
Prince was SICK and couldn't make the show. He had also canceled
a show too. But Spade was like threatening Prince & making a HUGE
deal out of it like "no one" has EVER canceled on SNL...
Personally I hate the show.. I have not liked it since the days of
Chase, Radner, Belushi, etc..... I think their skits are
VERY stupid for the most part and some of the guests they have on are
really idiots!!!! sad
But you better believe I will be taping THIS show.. wink
That way I can just Fast Forward through the garbage and watch
Prince... smile I can't see him doing skits.. but it would be
PRETTY cool.
biggrin

The good thing about SNL is that it provides a short concert experience, but stripped down. There's an actual stage, unlike Leno, Letterman, or Ellen, but there's no room for BS props. Just music--like the RRHOF where he killed.

It's a great opportunity, as well, being Saturday late night as opposed to Wed at midnight or Thursday at 3pm, to catch some drunken/high/young folks off guard.

Prince doesn't always do what we want him to, but he doesn't usually disappoint live.

no no no he was on the 15th year aniveresery show in 89 (Electric Chair)

it was 92 or 93 and prince was not sick... but you are right something was odd as he had also sechduled a concert ACT 1 show that same night in Phonix or someplace...

Spade acted like a real Prick.. SNIP

oh all he did was a bit about how prince flaked out and gave no reason. he showed some corn flake and IIRC prince's face was there in the bowl... it was all pretty last minute... but as the both his apprence and the concert were both secduled that night... who knows what happened?
