Power Rank
Name Pay Rank Web Rank Press Rank TV Rank
8 Madonna 11 5 30 19
9 Elton John 15 10 19 24
20 P Diddy 23 51 38 14
23 Metallica 20 9 50 69
29 Shania Twain 25 42 56 55
32 Rod Stewart 30 46 43 40
34 Bette Midler 30 29 70 43
40 Prince 12 30 94 93
43 The Eagles 14 63 88 72
61 Van Halen 38 55 71 75

observations:
1. prince sells significantly less records than madonna, but ranks just behind her in pay --keeping the lion's share of his profits.

2. ranking at the very bottom of tv and press keeps him from being in the top 20 or even top 10 (not that he cares)

3. NO MJ, or JJ neutral
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

What exactly does this mean? How do I see if he made x number of dollars or anything. All it shows is rank and that doesn't mean anything to me.

Musicology marked the end of his six-year hiatus from touring, and fans jumped at the chance to see him perform. Prince sold a whopping 1.4 million tickets—more than any other touring act in 2004. The simultaneous release of his Musicology album made it an even more lucrative year for the artist whose name continues to confuse.

The only music celebrity ahead of him in pay is Madonna, and only by $300,000.

Pretty, pretty good!!!

Nothing wrong with being fond of making dollars. The article is wrong about not touring or working. Dude would not have been able to get this high on this list if he was not working almost the entire time he has been in the music business.

If Prince even cared about money as much as he does about music then he would be #1, since he doesn't he is #40, and all because he is a serious businessman and an accomplished 1 at that (all 4 the sake of trying somethimg new, which he is never afraid 2 try!).

GOOD for PRINCE! I respect him because he makes his music his way, he does his thing. The way it should be and for that no matter what "people" say he is still the inovator.

Keep on being you PRINCE! There are enough of us who actualy admire, respect and love your music ESPECIALLY the NEW STUFF.

Something else I noticed about this tidbit. Forbes said this when they talked about Prince:

Musicology marked the end of his six-year hiatus from touring, and fans jumped at the chance to see him perform.

When I saw this, I was like, "HUH?!?!" What rock have they been under? How can they not know about Hit & Run 2000-01 and One Night Alone?

Well, I know, as much as the mags upset me for not printing accurate information, I have to remember they're not exactly doing this because they're fans or anything - magazines create these articles just to turn a buck. It's all business. Still, HARUMPH! Booo, Forbes! (Party poop!)

It's not fair to blame the mags - they're relying on the official marketing line for the musicology tour which came from P's camp itself. The press release said it would be his first tour in 6 years. It's P who was distorting truth - you can't expect the media to double-check everything he says abotu himself!!!

I think it was labeled as his first WORLD tour in 6 years.

Hey, we are talking Forbes magazine here. Any tours with less then arena-like dimensions do not count.

Anyone has some numbers comparing Musicology tour with H&R tour 2001 and ONA tour (visitors, money)?

Still wrong anyway - did the Musicology Tour get to Europe? No. But the ONA Tour did.

I don't remember exactly, but he did a few shows overseas somewhere so it technically qualified as a world tour. I think they were more or less rehearsal shows for the American leg of the tour.

Technically correct - he played 5 dates in Oz and 1 in Hong Kong a few months before the main tour started with a few gigs sprinkled in between. Not exactly a world tour, but not bad for a few air miles.
