My ??? WHY PRINCE WOULD YOU SEE A MOVIE That LOOKED LIKE CRAP to BEGIN WITH?? I am PROUD TO SAY...I HAVE NOT of this DAY SEEN JERSEY GIRL NOR WILL I! SO BORING LOOKING... Kevin SMITh should KNOW By NOW YOU MUST FOLLOW PRINCE'S RULES if you want to WORK with Him... But, I MYSELF COULD NOT DEAL with BEING ON HOLD or CALL ALL DAY. WAITING AROUND is FOOLISHNESS! PLAIN and SIMPLE...A WASTE OF TIME.. Ya do the VIDEO ..You get things done FAST! Why WASTE PRECIOUS TIME??? Fans STILL CANNOT UNDERSTAND why PRINCE DOESN'T RELEASE his VIDEOS and STUFF and it's BOOTLEGEd. Why Bootleggers were able to PROFIT... Now Prince is Releasing More through the club and that's COOL! Fans sometimes get SO DEFENSIVE towards PRINCE when they DON'T KNOW The Truth. The books that talk about him mostly paint Harsh Pictures of Him. He was Depicted as Bad cause of the WE ARe THE WORLD Shindig. I KNOW PRINCE is a RESERVED...quiet Person OFFSTAGE. Onstage is One Thing. Off another. Too different people. He's not also 21 anymore and he's done alot of things. Kevin Smith's Documentary was COOL! biggrin

Kevin smith responds in thread to Prince.org user:

You got your response and for the last time that question wasnt planned to be asked. It was a impromptu q n a with an audience. He didnt get anything out of it, didnt make any money.
when are the fans going to see that this Prince dude is a power flake to the Howard Hughes degree? He can't handle "REAL" interaction with people.

Kevins response from Askew after people asked him on a thread on view askew:

yrh wrote:
I wonder how much money he has made talking about his beef with Skipper?

Um... that would be about zero. I don't advertise the Q&A's with "Come hear Kevin talk about Prince!"

But I do get paid to do the Q&A's. However, if someone asks me about Prince, and I tell that story (which, since it was on the DVD, people rarely ask at Q&A's anymore), does that count as me making money off talking about "Skipper"?

Does the "Evening With" story count as me making money off that story? Granted, it's on the DVD, but again, it's not like it's advertised "Watch! As Kevin Smith talks about Skipper!"

I'd have to say I earned absolutely nothing from telling that Prince story.

And for the record? I've only ever told that story because I was asked about what it was like to work with Prince.

You wanna talk about who's making money? Isn't there a charge to join that NPG music club of his? Any of that money going to a good cause?

And in spite of it all, I still love Prince's music.

Sorry - Skipper's music.

take whatever side you want i love the fact that smith interacts with his fanbase..

interesting enough, creativly i think smith is in the same rut as prince.....they both need new inspirations..or new circle's of influence...or something..

maybe a bitch off between the two might get their juices flowing...

ha ha... That is great he responded. You gotta love the internet.

I love Skipper as much as Kevin and want to hear the truth about him. I am not fan that believes he is God or above reproach. I like seeing his complexities, insecurities and quirks. I was simply responding to how that last line read....

"There's another DVD, 'Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder' where I talk about him again."

That sounds like a selling point to me. No Shame in it, It just is. Unless he was misquoted. I'm not saying he will get rich, but IT IS a selling point, for some skipper fanatics. Shit, how many people here will buy it to hear what he has to say about skipper "again?"

Oh well.

mallrats is considered by most of his fans to be the worst of all of his movies( though Jersey Girl comes close for some). it was his first big studio picture, and he didn't yet know how to deal with pressure from the studio. so there was a lot of sophmoric mainstream "teen comedy" stuff in it that wasn't in his original vision. his real good movies are IMO:

1. Clerks

2. Chasing Amy

3. Dogma

4. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

In a very real sense, his films capture a generation (generation X) as it came to terms with itself and the world around it. and in this sense, Even Jersey Girl fits because it deals with the difficulty of putting aside Ego and selfishness to become a father, which is something that many in my generation have difficulty with.

Clerks is great fun and his best film (for me). Dogma tires too hard to be clever or just seems that way to me. Jay and silent bob strike back was dissapointing. I got bored after half way through.

Chasing amy is good, but the main character herself is annoying lol

Clerks is endlessly quotable, my friends and i probably quote Clerks as often as any other movie. i don't think i can count the number of times i've said "i'm not even supposed to be here today!"

The dialogue in Kevin smith movies is the best part, he's much like tarrentino in that respect, he has the ability to make his characters speak to each other in a way that sounds realistic, but at the same time is far too clever to be realistic.

I admit he is very talented. Ur right, it is his dialogue that is by far the best part of his films. It was nice to see the time get mentioned though in "jay and s. bob strike back". Mates were saying "hey! Dont u like them? How cool". That was fun for a while.

Prince is so dumb sometimes. Didn't this fool call someone to do work for complimentary on the house?
And he got mad cuz Kevin didnt sign the confidentiality agreement?

Why do prince fans defend all of his actions? You should just say "You know thats really flaky Prince. Why would you play mind games with a film maker who was a fan of you?"

Prince got it back to him and for everybody defending every single little thing.

Every single detail of that story sounds like Prince. Prince didn't like it cuz someone didn't worship him correctly for free. It was all karma handed to his ass. When your behaviour is out of line you get burned.

All Prince had to do was thank the man for coming out and realize he threw away a week because Prince stalked him to come out and film a documentary at the moments notice.

That's why Hollywood doesn't touch Prince anymore. No one wants to deal with that. Thats why his last 2 films tanked.

Oh well its good to see truth come to light. Sometimes thats what artists need: to be cross checked on the ice of reality.

Amen to that Tricky!! wink

If Prince responds to these allegations in denial if I was Kevin Smith I'd make a documentary talkin to the employees/business associates/show promoters/associates who have gotten the burn or being not paid for their services. That would be humorous and the ultimate statement "Don't f wit me"

That would be a interesting 90 minutes and a reality check to Prince cheerleaders world wide for every single one of his actions.
I'd like to hear about that guy who went bankrupt with his video production company for "Get Off" music video among other associates who never got paid or jilted in a transaction.

I think it's time for people who have come into contact or dealt business with Prince to tell their stories of "Former Slave" but tell them in a non Star Magazine/C.J. way.

You know what's ridiculous? Prince could have gone to court to get his masters like a few artists have. Instead he protested that he was a slave for years when he signed the contract and then signed the renewed contract again. Remember when Tavis asked Prince if he ever was spoiled or acted brattish when it came to his record deal? He just sat there stunned and couldn't face up to it. That he had gotten special treatement. The truth is anyone currently today who made a debut record three times the amount it cost would be dropped like The Hindenberg if it didn't sell.

I always thought it was absurd that a Versace ridden person actually had the nerve to appear on cameras saying he was a slave. I remember fans defending this action. This guy who had the pen in his hand and signed his contract repeatedly. Whose fault is it if he doesnt read it..again? The truth is Prince could have gone to a independent in the eighties but he was greedy and wanted more profit.

And you know what else? Yes men doesn't help. He is so wrapped up in this delusion of being the victim and yes men insulate him. I feel sorry for some of these Prince fans. They equate any level of dissent/disagreement as betrayal/sin/insult to the artist. When it's just a criticism or commentary on their views of Prince.

You wait and see there will be a new Slave Era. "People arent promoting my records"

it's entertaining watching a crackpot come up with new reasons why his records arent selling the numbers he would like when he is free.
I think I have a plausible reason:

Because...his expectations are unreasonable for a label to focus that much push on one artist. Let's face it. We live in a hyper accelerated media consumption. This isn't the eighties. Just be thankful someone is listening.

p.s. I bet the musicology tour profits is almost funneled out on extravagant videos/stage productions/

newsflash: he cant live like a Saudi Prince. His lifestyle is a midwest Prince who got lucky off a hit tour and the wave of Purple Rain mania.

Yea, I can't imagine why people would have something to say about Prince.
The truth is he is probably as insecure/paranoid as ever.

if I ever talk to Prince Im gonna ask him what the hell is his problem and why he acts like an ass with so many people just trying to help and assist if they cross paths with him. Because I really think there is a disconnect to Prince and Planet Earth. I love your music but seriously...as Das EFX said Chiggidy Check yoself befo you Wriggidy Wreck yoself. I think thats solid advice.

When are you going to lose the Trickology bullshit and your constant bitching about someone you don't know. If you don't like what P is about stop visting this board and being a fan.

The truth of the matter is P is an ass he is probaly no different from loads of other stars and I would include Kevin in that list. Going on and on about his misadventures with P after 4 years makes him look like a total bitch.

It has become a selling point for Kevin even if that was not the plan and P is not in the creative rut that Kevin is in. People are coming to see P in concert and buying his CD's People are not going out to see Kevin's movies.

Fire Somebody .... problem solved.

wow..are you serious?

respect the man's house? what does that have to do with anything? kevin was invited to a *public* event...nobody else who attended the celebration was forced to sign a disclosure...so why should kevin?

i hope you read our comments and respond to them....cause im really curious to hear where you are coming from on this.

Hey Curious George ... biggrin
I dont care either way...

I am talkin about bing paid 4 the Rainbow children doc ... not the interview (lol-- u think im talking about bing paid 4 answering the question of his DVD or that I care if he talks about Prince on his DVD - No)... I dont think prince would of paid Kev for the Rainbow Child doc until Kev signed ... Prince didnt no that Kev DIdnt sign the non-disclosure , he Did give it 2 Kev 2 sign tho tho.

What I figured....
Prince asked him 2 sign the non-disclosure because they were working 2gether...No? ... Paisley Park IS Prince's crib (or at least one of) ... nd I would have to guess that if U are working with Prince on Music or Video u would need a non-disclosure (i dont know , but something tells me Prince is that type, by now )... All I no is that Prince asked 4 Kev 2 sign it (sorry bout jelly belly ..just kiddin) nd Kev didnt.. nd now WE ARE TALkING About something that someone (b it Prince or whoever) didnt want 2 b bothered with bcause of all the BS ...
He didnt get paid? Good... He didnt sign.

I dont no if Prince or Kev are bad or good Ppl... but look
... How bout a BIC? ballpoint?
... Some ink...
...nd then they maybe,
get paid <- now that sounds Kool.
wink
Dont take this so serious please
... Im just playin...but... im sayin.
