Come on, people...stop acting like ´fams´....
Alicia didnt say nothing negative about him. Just an opinion about the kind of man she is looking for. And some of you call her ´bitch´, etc
I dont like her music, but I respect her opinion. If I was a girl, I wouldnt probably want a feminine man. The same way I dont like masculine women like K D Lang.

You got that right! Why bash that girl calling her "whore" or "carpetmuncher" simply for stating her opinion, that is really pathetic. disbelief

Not meant as a dig at Alicia at all, but I think any woman who has a problem with their man wearing makeup is insecure in her own femininity. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've heard some chick say she couldn't handle walking down the street with a man who's prettier than her or wears more makeup than she does.

I wonder -if they can't handle a pretty man, what do they do when they have to walk down the street next to a beautiful woman? Run and hide? hmm

Keys Needs A Manly Man
(Soundbuzz, Wednesday February 2)

R&B beauty Alicia Keys cites Prince as one of her idols because he's "not afraid of his masculinity". However, she warns potential suitors she'll never date a man who wears make-up. The singer encourages men to follow Prince's example and physically express themselves in a unique style. However, she regrets she could never be attracted to a man who fully embraces his feminine qualities. She says, "I love Prince - he's not afraid of being crazy. He's not afraid of his masculinity. "I think guys should do whatever they want to do. Now, do I want a guy who wears make-up? I don't know if I would like to walk down the street with my man wearing eye-liner. I might feel a little strange about that." (wenn)

-----
Lot's of people in the entertainment industry wear make-up. Men and Woman. Alicia has a right to have her opinion but, she should be careful about how the press likes to pit artist against one another. After all Prince seems to think the world of her and has not said anything critical in the meaia about her.

well to be honest, i'm so used to prince wearing eye liner, that seeing a picture of him without it is kind of unattractive to me. Besides if you really want to be with someone, you will not judge them by their eyeliner, you have to take the eyeliner, the foundation, mascara, eye shadow, and the lip gloss too.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

What's strange is that Prince is not effeminate to me.

He wears make-up, heels, and sometimes curly bouffants. Yet, Prince's presence remains strongly masculine ...he can't dilute it.

When Prince walks into a room, his aura is strong, commanding, powerful. It's not soft and demure.

How does he do that? How does he maintain his masculinity with all the get-ups, with all those pouts, on-the-floor writhings, and tantrums?

It's beyond me. I don't know who else could do it. (MJ and Little Richard can't) But Prince is a bad-ass damned masculine muthafucka!

- I think he can be masculine when he wants to. But he is still effeminate sometimes. All my friends think he is gay.
To be honest, I was very happy with the ONA tour. Prince was completely ´clean´, stylish and concentrating more on the music than any other gimmick.

this aint a prince thing...its about a half-talented overhyped lesbian who is masking her true self to sell a few albums... thumbs up!

I'm going to have to agree with you on the half-talented and overhyped part because I've been waiting a long time to hear someone else say that.

You should visit the music forum here then. lol You'll hear it a lot. thumbs up!

Maybe there was a slight amount of exaggeration involved in calling her a whore, don't you think? But nevertheless, some things people really should keep to themselves on certain issues. It's really not that big a deal, but first she's saying she likes a make-up wearing man's music and right after she's very quick to denounce such a man could ever attract her. Like how is that even relevant on any level?

What if Prince would say something similar in an interview? Read into this: "I really love Björk's music, but I wouldn't touch that gnome-looking skank even if she payed me for it." It would be exactly the same thing. You can think whatever you want, be sexually aroused by anyone, but really you should know better as an adult not to call something that doesn't fit your preferences "strange". Especially if you're going to get it printed. It's not illegal, but it's not quite tasteful either.

What Novabreaker said.

There's no need to take this shit so seriously that we resort to name-calling, but Alicia's comment was ignorant and tasteless.

Who gives a damn?

Alicia is dealing w/her shit. Whether it be sexual or not-- being misquoted (as the media tends to do)-- might be some of it...she should watch her mouth, though.

She is talented, which is more than can be said for her contemporaries. Closetgay/bi/curious Alicia is better than a straight whoever the hell nowadays.

She is overhyped, but thats a horse of a different color entirely.

As for her preferences-- that doesn't really phase me because this chick prolly doesn't even kno what she likes yet--

Why is it getting all y'alls panties in a bunch? Becuz she was talking bout the skipper? O WELL. He is human, and subject to just as much criticism as anyone else.

And BTW-- PRINCE IS MASCULINE AS HELL whip -- even though i've never seen him in anything but heels. shrug lol

I was just looking for something to point out. In all actuality my opinion seems to be the bigger the ass the better. I love asses. It is always the first aspect of a woman I find attractive or not. Actually the only thing that's not attractive about one is the lack thereof. And women, I don't mean that it is all I care about, but physical features are always our first attractions. The emotional and mental stuff comes later...and that is the best stuff (but asses are second : biggrin )

And the shoes better match the purse. O kay!!!!!

I hear what people are saying and I didn't mean to start anything by saying that she has issues blah blah blah. It's just that growing up gay sometimes you just know how people cover stuff up. It sets off an alarm (call it gaydar or whatever you want) when people start saying stuff that either you said before or heard from another person. I really like Alicia Keys. I think she's a talent, that's my opinion.

Some people went off on this thread. Thank God we're aloud to voice our opinions.

I never thought Alicia was gay, but I always thought she tried WAY TOO HARD to be down with the homies, so to speak . Here's a girl who was admitted to Columbia University , one of the best schools in America, and is a classically trained pianist, yet when you see her in interviews she tries to come across as a Harlem hoodrat . This speaks to another issue : why some people believe to be truly "Black" you have to act "ghetto". And I'm sure that Alicia, being beautiful. light-skinned, and bi-racial, feels that she has to work overtime to "prove" her Blackness .
There's a good book that covers these issues : "Authentically Black" by John McWhorter

That's really interesting. It's funny how if it doesn't come from the heart it comes off as phoney. I know I couldn't talk like I was in the barrio. I can fake it but this gay-guy-that-grew-up-in-the-San Francisco-bay-area-and-talks-valley is not going to get away with it, like fer sure.

YES YES you are so right! She will never understand that part of prince (being detached from the real world). She is too "in." I can't see her stuck in a room ever with a case of cabin fever and not wanting to leave until she gets the song right. She is a little bit too average (and don't say: no no but she plays the piano!)-- the girl is average! and besides, would prince want someone that chunky.
