While I think her comment does tip slightly homophobic, I think reactions on this board show more about how gender-biased our culture is. But, as you said, back to Alicia. Maybe I haven't heard enough interviews to sense the "desperation" as you call it. Frankly, I'm not really that interested in her interviews...I'm interested in her art. Well, at least some of it. And there's been very little that reeks of desperation to me there.
