PRINCE MADE IT TO RS TOP 50 ALBUMS OF 2004

http://www.rollingstone.c...id/6769107

Musicology

Sometimes looking back is the best way to jump forward. "Kick the old-school joint," Prince tells himself in the one-man-band title track of this return to royal form, a fresh, focused hybrid of Dirty Mind's hard-rubber bounce and the encyclopedic moods of Sign 'o' the Times. When he goes into the classic slow grind of "Call My Name," you feel purple all over -- again.

Still after all this time whenever someone compliments Musicology, someone has to attack it.

True, but what gets me about RS (and other industry rag offenders, Q magazine, etc) is they only give Prince props when it's cool 2 do so. Why sleep on The Rainbow Children? They wouldn't even dare consider giving him front cover then, and that was only 2 years ago. It's interesting how fickle these media outlets are

I wish they'd ask him to play the Super Bowl. Now that he's cleaned up his act, Im hoping he gets an offer, but CBS probably will expect him to come out with his ass cheeks showing again so would nix the idea.

Musicology was the most uninspiring piece of crap I've ever heard and the album which destroyed any interest I had with the guy. RIP

Doth post protest too much. wink
I love how Musicology has turned Prince fandom into a red state/blue state kind of situation. The Rainies vs. the 'Cologists.

Chill.

Musicology was not innovative or inspiring, but it was a simple, nice, mainstream pop album. That's it.

It's not a masterpiece, but there's no reason to hate on it.

I like Musicology and I'm glad it made the list.

But no song on there was transcendent . I mean, by Prince standards, they are all pretty mediocre.

None of them will survive as classics.

OK, maybe I just don't understand; no, no maybe, I just don't understand. Please explain to me what the purpose is for people like "thedog" and "starbass" (and I only mention them because they are on this particular thread) to visit sites dedicated to Prince (or anyone else) if their only purpose is to introduce negativity to a post like this one. Why does one take the TIME and ENERGY to do that instead of dedicating it to something that makes them feel good? I'm open to any intelligent response.

Q magazine gave The Rainbow Children 4 stars actually, exactly the same rating
that Musicology got from them , although TRC was a far better album , not a great album , just better. I'm with some of the other people in this thread
who are saying Musiclolgy was a bit lame , I think so too . Just because we dislike a particular album doesnt mean we don't have "a purpose " on prince.org by the way , some of you people who love Musicology might not be so keen on
one of his other albums which I like and would defend to the hilt , live and let live eh .

I think if any survive as classics it would be "On the Couch." I love that one. I love the guitar and the dipa dipa doo doo. And you gotta love the classic falsetto. Musicology has grown on me. I also like "Life 'O the Party", "If I was the Man", and "Reflection." Not the greatest Prince album ever, but light years better than Usher, Snoop, Eminem, basically anything that is really popular this year
"Life is just a party and parties weren't meant to last"

Destroyed any interest you had with the guy? I think not, since you took the time to post your opinion. Apparently the guy still interests you enough to share with the rest of us. Positive or negative, if you're here, you're interested.
