How do you think Prince would be viewed today if he'd stuck with the "Purple Rain" sound?

....Instead of branching out to so many other styles on (obviously, less successful) follow up albums?

Would he be regarded on the same level as Michael Jackson but less respected critically?

What do you think?

I say it would've made Prince a much more recognized name today (moreso than even now), but really wouldn't have made the guy the eccentric, unpredictable hero we love.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
