My guess is all 7 cds will be in cardboard cd cases in a cardboard box. Packaging will be minimal. A booklet would be nice. I'm very curious what the cost will be & how soon it's being released.

I think this is a good point - I get the impression people think the package will be 7 full-on packaged CDs with covers and everything, more likely it is being released as 7 cds together to keep the costs down, it is possible it will just be 7 cds stuck in a box, labelled 1 to 7 with maybe a tracklist or maybe you will have to download one from the club.

I love how people expect even more than is offered, "do you think he will release a dvd of all the videos from year one?" then later it is like chinese whispers, "I hear he is releasing a dvd of all the videos from year one".

NO! He has offered 7 music cds. And that's all we know. Your lucky he's even told us the titles for once.

It's just like when he does a concert. "Where's my aftershow? Jeez, I've been swindled, there's no aftershow after the concert until 5 in the morning, he's ripping us off! I want my aftershow!"

I cannot wait!!! I wanted to join in year 1 and 2 of the NPGMC, but I could not afford it, and I had a slow computer AND a slow connection. It was only at the end of last year did I get to the technology to level I could enjoy the club! And I was gutted to see the club had changed! Anyway I joined - and was at least delighted to see Rave INto the joy fantastic available (I got it straight away) - and it is well awsome! This was something unavailable to the likes of me before.

The Chocolate invasion is so good! It allows the fans who could not get with the TECH needed to enjoy the original club to finally get what they missed!

This is not about pleasing all the people all the time, or some people at some of the time.

It's about pleasing all the different people at different points in time. And we all know that this is a prelude to something else. No other artists gives so much! And I appreciate that!

Although I've already got 90% of the music that will be released in MP3 form, I totally support the decision to release it as a set. It's only going to get into the hands of more people that way. Some of those tracks are brilliant and deserve a wider audience, hopefully this will be a commercial release. Either way, these tracks will be reaching all the new members who weren't around in the first 2 years of the club. For $50? I will enjoy the liner notes, better sound quality and hearing the tracks in the order determined by the artist. Besides, I'm getting tired of seeing this nonsense on ebay...

Props 2 Prince for listening 2 fans who wanted previous year's music 2 b made available. We all know how disinterested he becomes in previous projects/music.

For some fans this will not b 4 them as they already have it.

He cannot please all of the ppl all of the time. Thats impossible.

Whatever he does in some ppls eyes, especially on here, he is damned if he does and damned if he doesnt.

Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't? Actually, he's just dumb. The ONLY people who would spring for this drivel are the people who have already done so. So many of you probably thought you were getting something sooo unique and interesting in year one and year two of the club, right? "Xclusive" downloads." "Rare "new" Prince music sent straight 2 ur hard drive "and all of that nonsense? So now he's going to charge those same people AGAIN for the same music on CD and you're applauding him for it? Why not just spread your bumcheeks and say "Come and take me Prince and I'll smile through it all?"

It would be very hard for you to convince anyone that the membership in Prince's club has done anything but decrease since it began. With the brief exception of the number of fans who joined at the beginning of year two when the club announced (and botched) their switch to CDs and had some tour perks, this club has continued to lose membership. Did you ever wonder why the cost of membership had gone down so much? No, it wasn't because 1/4th of the year had already passed by the time the club had started. Then it would have cost $75 to join, going by his previous pricing. It was because Prince was struggling to hold on to the few remaining club members he had left. And apparently, because of the abundant lack of content and benefits of joining. And among those "club benefits?" You actually pay for the "privilege" to purchase his music and then you pay to purchase his music. Where do I sign up for that wonderful opportunity? I can't believe there are still people out there who lap this stuff up like it's rainbow juice or something.

You say "if you haven't heard some of the music offered and want to hear it, buy it and if you have heard all of the music don't buy it." Why is it all or nothing with people like you and Prince? Would it not make infinitely more sense to release 7 individual CDs that people can pick and choose from? Is that so hard to grasp? Instead, Prince is forcing his few remaining fans, some of whom may have never received CNOTE or some other music they were entitled to the first time around because of one of the club's various and sundry errors to buy a massive (and very likely costly) collection of material, the vast majority of which they've heard before? Princely greed and business sense at its best!

Shut the hell up!!! I am not a member of the club and I may buy the seven disc to complete my collection. If you belong to the club and have this music you are not the target market for the set. In addtion, bootleggers are selling music from the club. Why would't Prince not put everything on disc and make it avalible? Please explain how Prince is forcing you do buy something? Get a grip on reality and stop worrying about how much money Prince is making.
[This message was edited Thu Oct 16 7:35:18 PDT 2003 by laurarichardson]

you know some people think it is smart to say "I got it on bootlegs"!! They paid it a certain price but now it's officially due for release so they are frustrated and not so smart...

Shut the hell up? Now isn't that mature. And it leaves such room for polite debate and discussion. Yet you go on to prove how you have zero skills at debate when you state:

"If you belong to the club and have this music, you are not the target market for this set."

Hello? The ONLY WAY TO BUY IT IS THROUGH JOINING HIS CLUB, PAYING THE $25 MEMBERSHIP FEE AND THEN EVEN MORE MONEY FOR THE COST OF THE SET!!! The only people dense enough to do this who didn't mind the anal raping they got the previous two years in the club, where they ALREADY HAD THE MUSIC.

I couldn't care less about how much money Prince is making. Where in God's name did you get that from? He's not making a dime from me, he can take you for every cent and I'll just laugh. He's already taken your mind and desire for free will.

As far as bootlegs go, I paid less, had them sooner, and had a choice in what to buy. And that's bad in your eyes? Oh well.

---
I said shut the hell up because you bitch to much. Do you really think the only way you will be able to buy the set it through the club. Don't you think this set will turn up in the store sooner or later and if people were subject to anal raping so be it. I don't think anyone is forcing you to be the subject of anal raping. Chill out already.

I get the idea that you care about how much money Prince is making because of your constant bitching about the cost of the club and products. You are either upset that Prince is making a living, a cheap ass, or have no life. I did not join the club so Prince has not taken my money or my freewill.
I will pick up the box set when it lands on Amazon.com or the stores. I guess I am a little bit smarter than you since you keep subjecting yourself to the so-called anal raping. If you look a other post on this thread many people seem to think the box set is a good idea.

Well, my penny of thoughts on this:

The ones who are interested in this kind of ouput are hardcore fans. Hardcore fans do own this through MPGMC or bootlegs. Some might buy it to have their collection complete (yes, it is a rip-off). All other ones will not buy this obscure thing. What the normal public would buy is a new single CD if it is somehow pushed by a hit single (Yeah, I am still dreaming).

So - thanks to Prince who will give his die-hard fans another opportunity to buy stuff from him and google over his brilliant musicianship. All the rest will not care nor notice.

Gotta say - this is actually making me mad, because I think Prince really calculates on his hardcore fans to buy something they already own just to not have a lack in their collection. Because - who else is his target group...

But hey, I am relaxed, and this probably a hoax anyway (yeah, and all of you who write "if you don't like it don't buy it - don't worry, I won't)

I'll definately get it, depending on track listing... if he leaves out "When I Lay My Hands On You", I might not.

Can someone please tell me why does NPG and Prince keeps releasing all of the recent outtake bullshit that he's done over the course of the last 4 or 5 years or so? He's got all that stuff like Purple Music, All My Dreams, Wonderful Ass, and hundreds of other rare gems that only diehard fans have dug hard to find. He gave us Crystal Ball back in 97/98 but still, there's so much other incredible Prince music that the diehards would love to have and he can give it to us without Warner Bros trippin' (I think). He creates as much bullshit as he does dope shit and why does he feel the need to give us the bullshit mixed along with "a little bit" of the dope shit on these box sets? Man mans be holding out on us because y'all know that he's got a gang of shit that would probably blow away most of the stuff we have access to! C'mon P, stop playin' and let us hear some non-Jehovah funk!

"Empty Room" and "Copenhagen" are songs from the Copenhagen soundcheck. As for the rest of the "city songs," I think that they're from the soundchecks from those cities...they're all instrumental. Tokyo at least also has some overdubs, I believe. By FAR the best instrumental stuff to come outta the Prince camp in the last year or so, if you ask me. And "Empty Room" makes you realize what a shame it is that the ONA live box wasn't recorded from the European leg of the tour.

Has it occured to anybody else that he might not have as many 'grooves and grooves up on his shelf' as we have been led to believe??

He has had many many opportunites to release as much music as he'd like, but still we got an awful lot of remixes, alternate versions, rehashes, etc.

I think there's not nearly as much quality material as popular opinion seems to think there is in that "vault" of his , and I'll continue to think that unless he does something to change my mind.

Just wondering if I'm alone in that thought...

Mr7

If you want to own the NPGMC MP3's in packaged CD format, buy the set. If you are satisfied with your CD-R's and MP3's, do not. It really is that simple. Last time I looked no one was forced to purchase.

Those who frequent NPGMC's 'U Tell Us' forum will know that there were a considerable number of requests for a release of this nature. Ultimately, this is a release designed for a niche market of fan-club members. I hope this will be the start of many more 'members-only', multi-disc releases that would not appeal to the casual fan or commercial market. It is just the kind of exchange that I believe the NPGMC is best designed for.

It is not as though Prince has not released anything else this year. There is 'NEWS', the 'LIVE DVD' and judging by recent reports a new single and album on the way.

Sensible as ever Mr7. Personally I'm delighted Prince is releasing this boxset. Even though I've been a member of the music club for the last 2 years I have lost out on the downloads cos my computer is a heap of junk!

You'll always have Prince fans complaining because we are the product of spoilt children due to the volume and variety of Prince's work. I wouldn't want it any other way! Not all of us, thankfully are like that.

you are right. the problem is there is a sect of fans who are completists who have to own every single Prince release or yet themselves feel incomplete. so if he releases an "official" cd or set, they have to buy it to feel complete, yet despise having to purchase the same music twice. in this regard, it is their problem and not Prince's. luckily I do not have this problem.

on the other hand, it does speak volumes of the quality and quantity of work Prince has spouted about having "locked" in the vaults. if the reason this is being released is that the fans asked for it, they have also asked for far many more and better sets which he has never released. so I think the reason he is releasing this IS NOT because the fans asked but more likely to make double the money off of the same music, which means his motives lie squarely to milk off the poor fans I spoke of originally.

I don't know why you're trying to convince yourself that the NPGMC isn't working. I don't know anyone who has left the club, but I do know of peopel who have joined. Plus, the club is still running, so it's obviously doing enough business to offer something like this. Why can't it just be that he responded to some of the fans request for the previous music? I've said it before and I'll say it again: Prince can't please everyone. Every release isn't geared specifically for you.

It amazes me how desparate some people are for attention that all they can do is say negative things. Ultimately, it comes down to if you want to buy it or not. Really, some of the people hear complain so much, makes me wonder why you stick around. Oh yeah, that's right, it's for the attention.

Attention from whom? Nimrod devotees of a fallen star? Don't flatter yourself. Actually, I'm not desperate for anything. And I know several people who have left the club in disgust. The people who complained last year to the BBB were not a figment of the imagination...in fact, we were the reason that you're grooving to that piece of garbage Xpectation.

Wow, a businessman who actually listens to the consumer? What a guy! And you know, he still botches it up. Again, what would be sooo hard about releasing the discs individually so people had a choice? I guess in the NPGMC regime, change is a bad thing?

By the way, he's doing enough business that he reduced the cost of joining by 75%? And you call me desperate? Please! Why do I stick around? Here's why: it's the same reason people stare at an accident scene. That's what Prince's career has become.

I think that u wish u were Prince. U're sooo saad!!!
U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

I'm interested in this new box set, but I'm gonna wait 'til it comes out so I can check the track list. Does anyone know the release date and please post a track list if you have it. I mean, it reminds me of what he pulled with 'crystal ball' on us, how the release date came and went and we didn't get shit, when it finally did come the case was cheesy! I'm not joinin' no club 4 that shit, he cancels his tours! I also was disappointed in the 1 nite alone box set, even though there were sparks of brilliance in there(joy in repetition) I felt he could have done a much better job piecing gigs 2gether, and where's the santana medley? I'll wait, I love Prince but I don't trust him anymore! LOL!

Hmmm... let's see, the ONA box came late last year

and now, this new 7 CD box is coming late this year-

I'm sensing a pattern. Wouldn't be great if Prince put out box sets through NPGMC at the end of each year? Great way to get all of that music out, and get my money- that's for sure.
