You'll have to draw your own conclusions about Vanity and her significance to Prince - that's the purpose of this thread. I can't comment on Hahn's book either as I haven't read it.

However, from what we've uncovered on this thread it would appear that Vanity/Denise was a very significant figure in Prince's life. She was not only a major love in his life, it looks like she was "the major love" (in human form). She appears to have inspired not only much of the music/art he was creating across his career but also appears to be influencing the commercial decisions he was making around it too.

.

Why this hasn't been clearly documented until now is unknown - there could be all sorts of reasons for this. Maybe it was because they wanted to keep their personal life/relationship private. It would appear, however, that any book that hasn't reflected her input is missing a substantial chunk of the story.

This is why Prince's book 'The Beautiful Ones' is so sorely needed.

He was distraught over her death...he dedicated many songs, most of the show to her actually after he was told of her death and in his own words he said they ''loved each other deeply'' i think i'll take Prince's word for it..i mean the man didn't have to say ANYTHING about her passing, they were 2gether over 30 years ago...why even mention it, let alone profess their DEEP LOVE for one another if he didn't love her..sooooo yeaaaaah i think he liked her a bit

Today, I discovered my Tididio account is no longer working for Prince’s music so while Youtube is still showing Prince videos I thought I’d post an update of the latest Vanity "Mirror Theme” videos we’ve found (songs that look like they may be inspired/about Vanity). Starting to realise there’s mirrors everywhere…

1. "I Wish U Heaven" (LoveSexy, 1988) - You'll see mirrored arrows, hearts and stars running all through the video.

2. "Hot Thing, Live - Sign O' The Times Concert 1987" (Sign O' The Times, 1987) - In the video, Prince's costume has a mirrored love heart on his sleeve near his left wrist.

("Adore" is on the SOTT album)

3. "Empty Room" & "When I Lay My Hands On U" - Live at Montreux 2009 - There’s a massive love heart mirror on the stage with him (near the keyboards) throughout the concert.

4. “Te Amo Corazon” (3121 album, 2006) - Find the Youtube video for “Lolita” from 3121 (‘Funky Alby' Youtube channel) that’s showing you the 3121 CD booklet in the video. Go to 0:49 and you'll see the page for “Te Amo Corazon” and there’s a big heart mirror with the lyrics around it. The page before that one and a couple after it, there are mirrored images also - “Lolita”, “Black Sweat”, “Get On The Boat”.

5. "Indifference" (with 3rdEyeGirl, 2014 Yahoo!Live Stream, no album release) - Mirrored effect to video like the back end of "When Doves Cry".

6. “Rock N Roll Love Affair” (Hit N Run Phase Two, 2015) - He has a mirrored guitar that's strapped to him throughout the video.

7. “The Greatest Romance Ever Sold” (Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, 1999) - To see this, it's best to look at the HQ version. When you watch the video, pay attention to the round thing that they dance around/lay on etc - it must be mirrored somehow. Anytime the girl and/or Prince are on/near it, there is a mirror reflection of them on the wall to the left.

Damn it!!! It's all there. He was talking about Vanity/Denise. Wow. This thread has been so comforting to me since he left us. Thank you guys so much for all of the amazing wor. The clues were right there under our noses all this time. Her death opened him up for us to see into his heart and that occurance was the doorway to revealing and understanding so much of their love story. No wonder he left so soon after her. They were magical.

In the video, he looks so sad and he's floundering around in bath with his trousers on like in When Doves Cry only he looks miserable! This is the video (Mayte is in it - it's not about her).

Well yes and no. It was his movie, he got to choose the director and had some say about stuff. But if he had wanted to, he could have insisted she get more, because there were legitimate reasons to give her more. He could have given her some of his salary. He just didn't want her to get free.

Listening to Bria Valente's album (Elixer) is kind of weird because the songs don't sound authentic to her. They seem too personally aligned to Prince and his story. These are the lyrics for Home that you mentioned with the Egypt overtones.

When I did a search on 'Isis Tears' I found the Osiris Myth - you may want to look at the wiki link it's quite detailed but a pleasant afterlife ties heavily to it.

Reading part of the huge blurb - it would appear Isis Tears are to do with water, namely:

So if you wanted to interpret this about Denise you could do it in a sexual way or maybe that he wants to try and heal/regenerate/rejuvenate her (as she's not well). Quite a nice sentiment really.
