Morris: Hello, Alexander O'Neil... can you play guitar?

Alex: Why?

Morris: We have this band with a name that has painted us in a corner.

Alex: I need more paper.

I was really hoping for a victory lap for these guys and I missed my chance to see them live here in LA. Did they even make a 2nd music video?

Personally, i don't think they are through. I think something might be worked out with Jesse and that this was just the first public shot fired about these problems.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Yeah well Jesse just gave that name a whole new meaning, and took advantage of his former Time member buddies, by taking the fastest flight out. lol

Just from the bits I've read here it just seems to me that maybe besides ego, there just seemed to be a disconnect on the touring. Let's be real Jimmy and Terry don't need this tour financially. Jesse isn't in the same financial position as them. But Jam, Lewis, and Jesse would seem to be the big draw for old fans. So the loose commitment of the tour dates maybe have been a lightening rod as well. If he really was asked to tour with D'Angelo, those dates are all overseas right? The bulk of the O7 dates would probably be in the US or Canada. And Morris is still performing with FauxTime? I don't know it just seems like a clusterfuck for scheduling.

I have no idea if JJ's leaving was based on the touring situation. If that's the case, I would think he would have stated that, but he didn't. He basically said he was leaving because he can't seem to see 'eye to eye' with the rest of his band mates, so there seems to have been some tension there. He did say that although he's leaving he still loves the guys, so he could have sat down and spoke with them before he expressed it on his FB page. I guess everyone is just waiting to see what the rest of the crew has to say about it.

Honestman12, Here's some info from that article link you posted. They basically just posted his FB posts from yesterday, and included the most recent ones after that. Seriously though, what kind of juice is Jesse drinking with these FB rants?lol Based on his last post, looks like he wants to move on.

Posted from above article link:

"It is really me Jesse Johnson formerly of a few fucking bands. But I understand, there are so many pretenders, but it’s really me. I feel really bad for thevpeople who were looking forward to seeing me with The Time or whoever, but you will see and hear me especially hear me forever! Music never dies, people do. Please excuse my spelling here and there I’m typing with one finger on my iPad.

Gray you know I have the utmost respect for you, but if Jesse moved on he wouldn't keep ranting about it on a public site, and the fact that of course fans who waited for the former Time members to reunite, release a new album, and possibly tour was something he shouldn't give a damn about, or how his other longtime friends (bandmates) feel, since he just decided to up and leave, like a quitter. So how can he then turn around and give inspirational messages about never being afraid to jump into the unknown, creatively with music, when he just up'd and quit and didn't even give himself time to see how the new, creative music with the OG7 's album would be received? According to Jesse, I guess that's all good in Jesse's world. shrug lol

I 'm just sayin' Gray, if a person doesn't want their sh*t on a public site for the world to see, then don't use a social networking site to post your sh*t and not expect people you accepted as friends on your FB page, to not react/respond to what you post, and not expect that they will not post it elsewhere for everyone else to see. Especially when it is Jesse taking the time to post that information himself. lol Again..just sayin'.

Uh... there's a difference between "moving on" and ranting like the world really wants to hear you talk shit... Jesse's doing the latter obviously at the moment.

PLUS if the only thing that made Jesse break away was touring, then he should've said "based on us not being able to tour, I'll have to leave since D'Angelo called me" but no like many who had worked with Prince, he says cryptic shit (I still can't forget Sheila E's dramatic tweets about why she was not working with Prince when it was really because she had other obligations like performing with her family and shit). So cut that b.s. lol

Theories about Jesse's departure...

***Recent shows featured mostly old Time classics, and very little new material.Maybe Jesse is tired of "living in the past" and wants to play the new stuff? Maybe he wants the tour to focus mostly on 'Condensate' but the other guys don't agree?

THIS - if Jese's most recent facebook comments are to be believed. Perhaps he simply doesn't want to be a novelty nostalgia act....

Respect to him for that. Are you listening TO7/ Prince...... lol

On a serious note maybe his financial return from Condensate, and the associated compromises he feels he is needing to make, are no greater than that of Verbal Penetration - a project he had far more control over, without said compromises

Maybe he's as much a drama queen as P- ego could well be at play

All this rather debunks the theory that P was responsible for all the Time/ TO7 problems doesn't it?

[Edited 12/16/11 6:19am]

I doubt it. Some folks here are still thinking "The Purple Yoda" had something to do with this. I said it before, they give that "skinny motherfucker with the high voice" too much credit for shit he had no control of destroying. yoda Accuse me of sippin' on that purple kool-aid/syrup, I don't give a fuck, it is what it is. Wasn't Jesse the one who pressed for the amount of songs on Condensate as the band orignally were going to have less on there but he felt "the fans have waited 21 years for this..lets give 'em the quantity"?

maybe changing their name to 'The Original 7ven' wasn't such a good idea after all hmmm If they replace Jesse and go out on tour,it wouldn't be the "original seven" members.

They probably should have chosen something like 'Flyte Tyme'.

bored2 Yeah I remember more than a few people here telling me how this didn't really make sense when I brought it up when Condensate came out.

in retrospect, you were right lol They couldn't possibly go on tour now (with a new guitarist),calling themselves 'The Original 7ven'.

I agree. You don't get the fans all excited about a reunion and then back out of it a few months later, before the tour was gonna begin.

But I guess it is what it is confused At least we got a great album from them.

I don't know what kind of record deal the group has, but if Jesse is under contract to do several albums, the label can hold Jesse to it or sue if they choose to. Record labels have done this to other groups who have broken up or had members leave.

Lol. I highly doubt the group and its members have a contract to do several albums. Not that it's not possible, but pretty unlikely.

I think what happened is that 07 expected to sell alot more albums then they did. I am sure the 07 was thinking they would end up selling atleast 100k if not more thru the project.

jesse began to realise that the come back wouldnt generate the level of success and money to be made.

plus jesse always has a strong ego and likes to blame others that never works in the long term

sad sad sad Where is the love, the brotherhood? That's what was said on the DVD. You guys are supposed to be brothers. bawl bawl

I was looking forward to seeing them perform the new songs such as AYDKMN and Sick, with Jesse cutting up on his parts. Guess that won't be happening.

Jesse was the different one, the most like P in the group. I love Morris but I always loved Jesse's playing, and songs. It was nice seeing all the guys together again, and then Jesse doing his own part. The public just saw them on the Soul Train Awards that aired a few weeks ago. I was in the wrecka stow when someone called in for the Original 7ven and they replied, "Who, what, Ocean's 11, Magnificent 7?" I mean people are still adjusting to the name change, and then this jumps off with Jesse. It's a real shame, whatever it is.

I listened to Jesse's interview and he said he played recently with El Debarge. I guess he's just doing him, but it sucks for the OG7 band, and fans. Sad because the music on the new CD is very good.

Jesse is very candid in interviews, maybe we will hear more.
