it could be the bootlegs. That is one speculation I personally have, but only he knows for sure.

I was a frequent visitor to the quake and ironically never went to the bootlegs forum, do not own any bootlegs, nor have I sought out bootlegs. I have been to gatherings where people were selling boots of concerts and I didn't buy any because I prefer to experience it first hand.

Ironically, the only boot that was ever sent to me was unsolicited by an org member. I got an email that only said "check this out". It was instrumental. I asked whose it was and was told it was a prince boot. That is the only time I listened to a boot.

I agree with the fact that the artist should decide what we get to see and hear, but I also believe once the artist has placed it on the market we should be allowed to discuss it, and we should be allowed to watch previously published videos and view album cover art.

The Prince 'fan' community is a pretty weird place for Prince fans to be. Which is pretty weird. I mean it seems like you're an outsider if u like Prince. Difficult to share your enthusiasm without getting flamed. Which is what's been eating me personally in the last while and came to a head when I expressed a view on the legal situation at HQ and was shouted down even though the analysis offered has turned out to be pretty on the money as far as what happened since.

Since I've kind of 'lost the rag' a little with these haters, how weird must it be for the subject of the fandom to be aware that such is such? Ask the Kaiser Chiefs if they'll be kindly disposed towards a fan site with their name and image all over it which pretty much preaches that they're nasty people?

It's fu*king NUTS is what it is.

I don't give two fu*ks what happened with Uptown or Housequake really. Whay should I? No really. Is it unreasonable to not wanna know their business and their gripes? I feel like I've been forced to take a view on their decade-old whinging about Prince simply because the latest gripes and provocations from them are being posted all over the community.

There was a time not so long ago when I seemed to be able to use HQ and the Org without getting involved with it at all but when you're having the greatest Prince summer of the decade you want to stay in touch with the other enthusiasts throughout. Except that the sherpy nerp nerps just won't HOLD IT DOWN. They HAVE to make you appreciate how Prince is a lying cheating scumbag. So you look at the evidence and you notice that there's NOTHING from his side of things...just aggrieved accounts that those who are baying for Prince's blood haven't even taken the trouble to read anyway.

It's N.U.T.S is what it is.

I'm almost bored with it all now. It was fun baiting the haters for a while but they really are from the Land that Fuckwit Forgot.

Jaysus and his dancing ducks!

lspear76 said:

Is the reason, um... that Prince hated Uptown and Housequake is basically an extension of that, therefore Prince will do anything to make life miserable for them and try to shut them down because he hates people talking about bootlegs, boolteg tracklists, etc? What a pansy!

What you are failing or simply neglecting to realize here, is that this is not just a matter of Prince haters being pissed at him THIS time and THAT'S THE PROBLEM!! I hate with a passion what he or somebody he should have NEVER trusted is doing right now and I'm not afraid to say so even if it is Prince, himself but I've NEVER, EVER hated Prince!

Oh and why are they Bringing the Org in the discussion by telling Web Sheriff to check out the photos on here. They probably know about the photos on here but the problem seems to be Housequake face it prince probably does not like the site, where housequake spouts about independence, you can be independent without causing friction for yourself.

Funny thing is the main individual (and it was mostly just the one same person) who kept bringing up all the photos posted on the Org actually posts here fairly often--under a different name. confused

And telling Web Sheriff/Prince to Go fuck thereselves aint going to help

I agree but don't try to pretend that only happens at Housequake. Take a look at some threads in the Prince: Music & More forum here (try the "Prince Contemplating Sueing YouTube..." for starters)...people here post the same kind of shit.

If think they will reopen HQ in a week or so,wink
If it reappears completely text based only, it will be a shame..
but i suppose it then becomes untouchable to Prince and his team.

Unless they are gonna to start banning words that P owns the copyright to!

Any sense here?... Is anyone entitled to have any number of pictures/videos/music of choosing (without pay/permission), at fingertips on a world wide scale?

In REALITY... all Prince did was stand up for what he believes is right.

Now can we Please get back 2 the Music.

thanks for the clarification. however, if i was "snitching" don't you think I would have provided the member name? Also, I obviously am not "trading" as I clearly stated that item was sent to me unsolicited and that I had no desire to even receive the item. I made the comment because so many people are constantly bashing housequake because of that particular forum, when it was not even a housequake member who sent me something unsolicited. There was not even a hint of trading whatsoever in my post, merely a mention that someone had sent me something unsolicited.

yeah but those are two totally different things...private discussion is just that, private...you can't really throw the org into that discussion because one can easily email, IM or call someone and offer unsolicited boots. it was a cheap shot...IMHO...and I don't say that to offend...cause its not that big a deal.

btw. you only quoted part of my post, which actually takes it completely out of context and makes it seem as if that is all I am doing. if the whole post was quoted, it would very well show it was not a cheap shot.

but, since it was mentioned, i am so tired of the holier than thou attitude (and I am not referring to you). People want to bash the quake for running a bootleg forum and say we should respect Prince's wishes, and all the while some of those very same people actively trade. it is hypocracy at its best.

I love the quake, and I love the org. I am an active member on both, I have friends on both, I love qualities about both. I have never been one to get into arguments with others, I have never been warned for violating the rules because I play nice and I play fair. I really just don't get why the "our place is better than yours" attitude. Why can't both places be good for their own reasons? You have good seeds and bad seeds on all boards, not just one site or the other.

I'd already decided that I'd let my personal grieviances about HQ go come October 1st so I offer this constructively:
Aaron, from what little I've read of him (he's fairly quiet on HQ) is a guy that anyone can deal with. He's got a 'long fuse'.
But there are moderators on HQ who have very short fuses and who are incapable of moderating their own expression never mind those of the users of the site.

In the realest of terms, if so many users are upset with the way that they've been treated on a fan site where not just negative but full-on abusive treatment of the object of fandom seems to be positively encouraged, then what is the object of the fandom to think?
Find me another fan site where there is that kind of 'house vibe'.
Would a younger band like, say, Kaiser Chiefs, like it if their fan site pursued a general vibe of 'The Kaiser Chiefs are a bunch of shitheads'? Would they want to tolerate the use of their name and image on that site?

HQ has many fans but many of them have uncategorically stated that they hate Prince. No matter what Prince does, they want to see it as a refecltion of THEIR image of him. That's up to them but what's unreasonable is thinking that Prince would want to treat them in the same way as his ACTUAL fans.

HQ needs to moderate ITSELF and apply that moderation as policy on their site.
This is not censorship unless getting a grip is an act of self-censorship (actually it is)

Totally agree, Its a shame cause HQ was a fun place to be but since he took some mods on it went downhill, people say the banned HQ members have just got a gripe against them is not true. Thier is still members on thier who as the same view as banned members for example the warning system of points whatever happenned to 3 strikes and your out.

I have heard stories of people just making a complaint against the mods and getting banned for it, thier is no free speach on thier and your only accepted if you follow the sheep. in my opinion Prince has give us so much some people are just like spoilt kids wanting more, What a summer we had 21 fantastic nights at the o2. A FREE Album, Concert Tickets for £31.21 also a FREE DVD and some aint still happy maybe they wont be untill he releases the entire stuff in his Vault.

Maybe people are spot on that the Org is next, but i cant see it myself to my knowledge they have not had any trouble if they have they must be dealing with it in a completely different way to HQ like behind closed doors how in my opinion is the way it should be done cause thiers no point causing unrest among the forums.

some of you really don't get it.... it is a copyright thing, photos, videos, conertmaterial etc.

ofcourse The Org will be next. Lots of prince copyrighted material here as well, but The Org probably will say amen to the web sherrif and fullfil his wishes, while Housequake stood against it, based on law.
This has nothing to do with a US / Europe fan base, and moderators whom you like or not...if you think that, little do you know.

in the end what is happening to HQ has to do with all of us as Prince fans/fams (whatever you like to call yourselves).

I hope this will not happen though as this is happening it might happen to the org. in the future as well. So stop being so damn arrogant!!! mad

Great point Tammy. I've been a member of both since the beginning (damn, I even remember the PML !) and met my wife on the org waaaay back.

Remember stand4oneanother.com ?!

Seriously, forget whether it's HQ, the Org, or even Princefams.com, at the end of the day, this is simply about whether independent fan site can realistically exist long term.

i disagree. not everyone would have handled things the same way in response to requests/letters. not saying how HQ handled it was right or wrong. I'm sure they did the best they can under the circumstances. i just don't believe that this battle/problem between Prince and HQ should automatically translates to battle between all fans and Prince.

nod Yes, I am really shocked by the Housequake "hate" here. It's very sad for me to see as someone who frequents both websites and never had any problems with either of them... I hope that if/when the Org suffers the same legal wrath that the whomever is left on the other websites doesn't stoop to this same level.

I totally understand that, but what shocks me is the amount of "serves HQ right" statements which seem quite mean-spirited and a bit unnecessary. What happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say...." or disagreeing without resorting to name-calling?
