Locals! Help required.

If I was coming to Manchester by car on friday night (Via M6), would you recommend driving all the way in or stopping at somewhere like Altringham and getting the metro in and out?

I'm really excited now but really worried I'm gonna be disappointed now that these gigs are getting hyped and even cunts who would usually slag u off for Prince are tweeting and sharing links about it. It's like in the World Cup when dickheads think they know about footy - but with this I fear am gonna miss out to too cook for school mancs and fucking bbc mediacity types! Oh, how exciting and frustrating and mercurial and everything all at once. And it's still six days away! Albert Halls twitter now looks like they're confirming it pretty much now even if it's not properly official. I'm too excited! [Edited 2/15/14 12:06pm]

Have 2 agree with both of you here. Yes I'm thrilled it looks like there will be at least 2 nights in Manchester, being in North Wales this is realistically my best chance 2 c him. But I'm a bit nervy that the gigs have been announced a week in advance.
I'm far from being rich but would willingly pay the £10 or £70, what I would hate to see tho is genuine fans missing out because of media types or those who just 'pop along to a prince gig' out of curiosity. I'm already looking at booking a day off work which won't be particularly easy, looks very unlikely I can do the Saturday due to family commitments (not just a simple meal/day out either) so it's a day hovering in Manchester just waiting 4 the word.
The other thing I'm nervous about is the whole 2 gigs in 1 night thing. It seems to me the second show has been better than the 1st but I wanna guarantee I get in to the 1st show so the second, if it happens, might be difficult to get in to.

I should say though, these are not criticisms of the opportunity to c him, I would hate for this to be the 1 time I miss out since 1986, but missing out to fans like me would be fine, genuinely, missing out to those who just fancy a night out though.... That would be gutting.

These southerners coming up north getting our tickets....you've had plenty of shows in your own yard. And you've been to 200 shows already wink

Made me laugh that on the other thread but for what it's worth I don't think you're a bull- shitter and you seem one of the more knowledgable posters. I seem to recall you rewriting Tonys Willing & Able rap a while ago which was quite impressive

It depends, Altrincham is ok if your staying over, you might pay a little more than you would for a travelodge in the city centre, but then you have the hassle of parking fee's and things.

If your planning Altrincham, there is Cresta court, Mercure and a Premier inn are around and not too far from the Metro stop/train station. Metro takes around 35-40 mins into the centre of manchester or usually plenty of black cabs but traffic into town is bad sometimes trough trafford.

It does seem that Sacha has something to do with it who is now the Promoter for Albert hall, I rememeber him tweeting something about prince less than 12 month ago, and little things up till now has made me think he had something planned, I thought it might have been Park Life he'd booked him for but that was Snoop Dogg.

and he was in london for 6th Feb and tweeted the below ties up with Prince arriving etc... He's probably the one promoter in manchester who can pull it off, especially as he has his own security team who ran the Warehouse project, Parklife, The gigs at Jodrell Bank and more so is equipt for large crowds and tight security.

I guess time will tell, and we'll soon see where

Also agree with that. Don't want to miss it but the all day queuing is tricky with work and family. I'd happily pay £100 for a ticket to save all that hassle. If they are £70 rather than £10 it would put off any casual band wagon jumpers and genuine fans wouldn't miss out

So, I open my heart to this lovely forum. A 43 year old male who has lived his life through the music of Prince. Now married with 2 lovely little ladies, been to a few concerts but not as many as the folk on here. Now with a chance to go to an intimate gig in Manchester due to the stars aligning and a Friday off work and my parents living in Manchester, I may just be able to get in a queue to see the most engematic performer of many a generation. I can only admire all those people who have already seen him on this "tour", I look forward to such a special occasion. Wishing everyone in Manchester the best of luck with a great gig. I shall attempt the wait in the queue with the hope of attending a great performance. Love to you all. xx

Not great for the night time, but Moon under the water is cheap and cheerful? Or Sinclairs Oyster bar near selfridges is good for a bit of ale.

or we could go top end & hit the champagne bar at Goucho!!

As long as there's a roof over our heads, drinks & good reception to keep tabs on the location then we're good to go!!

Can't manage the Saturday due to family commitments but with any luck should be driving over from Leeds on Friday for the gig. I just hope I manage to get into the venue wherever it's going to be. Mikeyaddict made a good point earlier when he compared it to the World Cup with people coming out of the woodwork. Unfortunately, I can see it being like that.

Hoping to meet up with some orgers if anyone is around - few places on Oxford road or deansgate closish by. What time will folk be queuing from?

Depends on when we get a venue announced properly and the size of the queue when i got there!

If there's hundreds of people at 3-4pm, well yeah, i'd queue.

Depends where ur travelling from and then to. I've often used the metro from Radcliffe or prestwich for getting into Manc as ok for bolton and Preston and the m60. Not sure what time last metros are at so maybe better getting a hotel and leaving ur car at a train station at a nearby town - many have a days parking for £2 - I known Preston does but that may be too far north for u? Late night trains between manchester airport and Blackpool north so u could check stops along that line but last trains could be around 12ish. Could park around salford crescent for getting in - free parking on roads around there near the uni then a taxi back to ur car? Or park further out and get a hotel? org note me if u need!

Oooh! It's quite exciting - just hope I get in. God bless u Sir Tom, gonna do it for u!

I working on the assumption that I'll only be able to so the Friday. I'm looking to take the family to Alton Towers Fri/Sat and sneek off for the Fri evening to Manchester. If there is pre sale, its doable, without presale, I'm looking at divorce. lol

The problem may be the M6 on Friday night, between 17 and 19 usually gets a tad busy. To get to the centre it may be better to go via Altrincham but you'll have to judge that by weight of traffic.

hi, reckon Deansgate is best as it's just easier to get to. I'll be there both days as for queing it really depends on the size of the venue. In an ideal world I want a load of fans to hang out & then hit a queue at say 2/3 ish..imagine if the weather is crap!!! I know some who want to be there at 10am!!

Well there is Brewdog which is also on Peter Street and basically next door to Albert Hall (if it is to be there) so you can sit in there, have a very good beer (a tad expensive but no bog standard rubbish if you apprecaite "Craft" Beer) and watch the queue! They also do some decent food, Burger / Pizza, but about £10, so not overly cheap. If anyone goes to a Wetherspoons on Deansgate I have 50p off a pint of cask ale vouchers that need using, I have about 15-20 of them!

I've just looked at Albert Hall on Google Street View (called Brannigans in the picture), but it looks a far size and is next door but 1 to Brewdog!
