Muirdo - I cannot take credit for the earlier pics you thanked me for they were Joyinrepetition's.

Unfortunately I was too lost in the moment to take pics of that quality and after much prompting by other half 'Zoe - take a picture!!!' I managed to get a few - too busy dancing, screaming and crying to take pics or videos - here are a few of the better ones....

BTW - is anyone still wearing their wristband or is it just me being weird eek

Hiya

I don't know if you remember me but I'm one of these people (Ginger hair and green True Funk Soldier T-Shirt in the second picture). I can tell you that all of the people in these pictures were at the front from at least 1oclock when I arrived. Some of us did occasionaly go off to use the bathroom or get water for each other as it was a 7 and a half hour wait in the bakeing sun. If anybody was bumped on the way back from the toilets then I'm sure it wasn't ment to be aggressive pushing but we were a group of people many who hadn't met each other before, We were looking after each others welfare making sure people didn't do stupid things like have no water or toilet breaks just for fear of losing there place.

I'm not doing this as an appology or as a telling you how it is. I just hope you look back on the whole thing with a much more positive attitude knowing that actually it was a group of fans taking care of each other and i'm sure if you needed a rest we would have been more than happy to hold that position for you and your kids.

By the way many of us were also fans for 20 or even 30 years and some of us were first time Prince concert goers (being a fan that long means nothing)... I'm sorry you saw only half the story as you hadn't been there as long as us but if you look at footage of Allo Black or Larry Grahams footage you will see that Purple Symbol on a stick that we were all around......

Also if you take 7 and 8 year olds to the front of a gig it's a sad fact but they are gonna run the risk of getting bumped or crushed

Actually if you care to look at the second photo you can see that Imelda May the third act is on the video screen so that's a bit of proof right there

[Edited 7/5/11 13:39pm]

If that is the case then I'll apologise. To be honest I just remember the big guy barging past people to get back to the front. I've no problem with people getting back to the place they had originally staked out but to be honest it was the lack of subtelty with which it was done. It is frightening when your kids are there and I'm not naive enough to think that they wouldn't get a little bit squashed and what not but it is still frightening. When we first got our spot there was plenty of room. Anyway, I'll apologise again if I was wrong, hope everyone had a good un, we certainly did.

Had a great time glad you did to

Hello all,

Really enjoyed Sunday, thought he was amazing and VERY energetic. Was great to see.

I agree with all the comments about knackred calves, mine are STILL dying!

A little off-topic, but I was wondering if any of you org-ers have photos of the Dublin aftershow in 2002? I was lucky enough to be one of 4 or 5 people who got to shake his hand at the end and I would KILL to get a photo of that. Don't suppose anyone was snapping at the time but just thought I'd try my luck!

Peace and B Wild!

Prince - everything he do...' be funky

Over the years, I've seen Prince in concert more than any other artist. It's never a bad night out - this is a man who preens, purrs, perspires, prays, plucks, postures, primps and pirouettes like no other. But just as you and I have good and bad days in the office, some Prince gigs are better than others.

When I saw 1993's Symbol Tour in Edinburgh, it felt a little workaday - just another run-through of the hits for an anonymous stadium crowd. Two years later in Dublin's Point Theatre he seemed rejuvenated - excitedly playing new material, most of which ended up on the Gold Experience album. There were dozens of blistering guitar solos and, at the end of the show, Prince ditched all the sampled loops he was using and launched into a ridiculously exciting 20-minute jam, based around the NPG single Get Wild.

My dad came to that gig, and we ended up in the moshpit for the entire encore. A few years later, he had to have surgery on his knees...

So, waiting to see Mr Rogers Nelson play his first ever UK festival at Hop Farm last night, I was intrigued to see how he'd approach the show. The fear was that he'd take the money and run - a couple of bars of Purple Rain, a quick sing-along to Raspberry Beret and back on the big purple funbus. But, as it turned out, it's the most electrifying show I've seen Prince play since the night I got engaged (and that's a whole other story).

What struck me most of all was how much fun he was having... Wiggling his bottom at the crowd, dancing on top of his piano, and flirting with the ladies of the NPG, a stupid grin plastered all over his age-defying face.

He even dragged out an hour's worth of encores, including a funkdafied version of The Beatles' Come Together, and a cheesy-but-nonetheless-amazing rendition of If I Was Your Girlfriend. Not a single person left that field without feeling ecstatic, I guarantee you.

I've written a rather matter-of-fact account of the set for the BBC, which you can find by clicking this link. But I have to admit I was totally outclassed by Tom Horan, whose review in The Telegraph captures the spirit of the show perfectly.

As I said, we all have good days and bad days at the office.

I've sent the Sun a complaint about their shit story about Prince's demands And name calling showing little respect! They have replied saying that I'm in the short list to have my letter printed , Which will win me £50!

unique said:

wait till you see the review in the sun. it's a corker

we couldn't find our car either. never thought of looking for signs and the place is massive. found it though in the end. the delay didnt matter as no-one could get out anyways

I saw this today at work, typical SUN rubbish, bit i was surprised that the second half of the review lauded the concert as brilliant

i sent the sun an email saying they can stick a copy of the daily fail up their arse

i'm going to put their pic of prince in a limo on a t shirt and wear at the next gig

It was a crap review but this bit about signing a contract to not look in his eyes seems true if I was to believe the photographer and security guy my friend was talking to at the front. We were standing right at the front and they told us the only way they was aloud in to do what they were doing was to sign a contract saying they would not look him in the eye! So who knows?

It's hard to write what's not already been written - but like many others I've seen him perform countless times over 22 years in Las Vegas, Paris, Minneapolis and the UK (oh, those gorgeous Indigo nights!) and this is right up there amongst my top Prince experiences. The crowd, the setting, the vibe, the music and the man combined for a total euphoric purple high. When I go see him live, I always worry a little that his star to will start to wane - and to still see it shine as bright as always makes me smile slowly shaking my head in disbelief. It seemed he could have carried on forever. Again like many others here on the Org, I look at setlists of other gigs and think "Meh" - but when you experience them live...wow...different kettle of fish. I love the way when I'm listening to one of his grooves and I think to myself "OK, move on Prince, let's have the next tune", but he keeps on with the same groove, then twists it, turns it, stops it, restarts it, then takes it to another level and all of a sudden I find myself a-bopping!! Cracks me up. One of the many aspects why I love the way he plays. Anyway...

Highlights:

Dancing to speeded up "It's gonna be a beautiful night" (how prophetic!) from Hot Chip DJ set in the dance tent during Tiny Tempah

Opening soundcheck new tune - "We live to get funky"

The breakdown coda of Little Red Corvette

The groove of "Cool" and "Don't stop till you get enough"

His dancing to the breakdown drums of Kiss

His sense of fun - he was loving it up there

Meeting countless people who were seeing him for the first time and loving it

The way he had the a 40,000 festival crowd in the palm of his hands, watching his every move

How the gig turned into one big funky party

So glad to be at such a memorable night with friends who loved it just as me.

It was simply a beautiful night.

P.S. Oh, I didn't get to view the Youtube clips before the Prince police got on the case so if anyone knows how to help me relive the many great moments of the night could you PM me? I will be forever grateful. Cheers!
