Thanks so much for your reviews and photos smile Regarding the setlist, an artist who covered Prince and probably paid for his furnishings in that house:) was criticised for playing not enough hits. My ideal setlist would be 1999 & Dirty Mind in their entirety, with an epic Bside encore. If that happens I'll get my tits out at the next venue with a roof:)

A Pictorial Review Of The Day...

*LOTS OF SWEET-ASS PICS*

All Pics By Me smile

Damn man. Think u were standing exactly where I wanted to be!

Everyone has already said pretty much how I feel about the show. Fantastic. Amazing. One of his best. Get yr skinny ass out quicker next time....etc...etc....

Just to add...

1. Its the closest i'll surely ever get to Prince (gonna upload some pics v. soon) and I was absolutely loving seeing his facial expressions in real life.

Like how in the first few minutes he walked over to Andy (FIT!!!!!) while Shelby was cutting loose and had a similar look on his face like when Eric used to do his solos. Would've been hilarious to suddenly hear "Shelby Shut The Fuck Up!!". He also pointed to some guy right at the front, then to both his ear-wraps and then smiled to him....that was great to see. Seeing little things like that up close just make it so much more.......much more......i dunno.....fucking awesome i guess.

2. Teenie Tempah Tantrum was a bucket of ass, we all agree on that (except his guitarist, who rocked). But he served his purpose on bringing a younger crowd to see Prince, who are surely by now indoctrinated by the funk. And if theyre not then they should have their ass beaten all the way to HMV and forced buy some Prince albums!

3. Was lovely meeting and just seeing some of u lot amongst the crowd, I didnt really mingle with anyone at the 02 but standing around for 10hrs straight like a battery chicken I had to take my mind off my shins pushing through my kneecaps somehow.

Andrew Keen, u fecking pisshead! U were funny, even though i was going to stick that symbol banner up yr ass at one point! mad But seriously, u made me laugh calling EVERYONE a "cunt" every few minutes for no apparant reason, also enjoyed singing with you and CHOPIN all through the SOUNDCHECK!! We sang as many Prince songs as we could to keep everyone entertained....so if anyone was thinking "Dammit, shut them tonedeaf twats up!", or purposely didnt join in when we kept attempting to get everyone to chat "Oooh Waayyy Oohh!", well....then...bollocks to you im afraid! razz

4. Prince seems to attempt to disheaerten and annoys us on a monthly basis. Cancelling shows, being a twat, cease and disist vids & pics, taking the utter piss with failed internet endevours, low par albums, getting his ass sued off every week....etc etc.....

He tests us to the very limit. Proving WE ARE THE GREATEST FANS OF ANYTHING/ONE EVER!!!!! He doesnt know just how lucky he is......

But anyway, watching him from about 10metres away, even though it was part of a festival and there's a 1000 songs i wanted to hear, he reminded me of why I love the guy.

Oh my god it was so much fun and so much funk I could do it again today biggrin

Sung myself to a sore throat but worth it all...... SHELBY SHUT THE FUCK UP (classic)

Only asking because of this picture on Zoerh's post..(hope you don't mind me reposting)

Who's the old dear in the middle?

it's ashling "biscuit" cole. she's basically larrys stage replacement for tina. she has a sample pad and shakes the tamborine and does a bit of backing vocals. to her left is larry graham, to his left is ida nielson princes bassist, to her right is liv warfield in red and i dunno who the dude with the guitar on the right is. morris hayes is behind larry graham on the left and john blackwell on drums. andy allo is out of shot on the right, cassie o neal is out of shot on keyboards on the right and shelby must have been on the right. elisa fiorillo dease is pregant or something with princes baby so couldn't go on tour, so prince got andy allo instead cuz she's hot. no horns at all. he ditched the fucking horns and no twinz or dancers either

I cant ever remember seeing so many great pics from one gig!!! We're all still buzzing too, i havnt felt like this since the first time i ever saw him on the Nude tour.I just want more!!!! The O2 gigs were great, but Sunday was something special! Cant stand the thought that it could be a few years again until he returns to the Uk. I think i have some kind of Prince Blues coming on!

Sounds like a fun night. Wish I could have been there, I even had a ticket lined up, but hey-ho, next time.

A good version of Purple Rain? didn't think I'd hear you say that!

no afters then? not even a rumour?

Not that I'm aware of. Unless thats why there are so few on here this morning. They all went to the aftershow and I missed out! lol

Yeah Purple Rain, one of the songs I think he should rest for a few years was a corker.

The 82-85 stuff sounded particularly good last night because Prince was quite focussed and in the zone. He was really feeling PR last night, more that the last 100 times I've seen him do it. It reminded me of the performances in the Nude tour.

i made the same point in another thread about purple rain. only watched footage on youtube but i could sense the emotion between prince and the crowd. slagged the shit out of his canal+ performance but fair dos, the purple one proved there's still passion left in him smile

don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

Totally out of order there mate.I got into position at around 3:00pm these guys were already there.Fans were freely moving around at this time.

They were about 10 people over to the left of me and seemed to be having a great time.

The big fella came past me at one point and was very polite and full of smiles as the vibe was superb.

You should have been next to the couple who were pissed out of their minds and insisted on splashing their contraband liquor which smelt like camel piss all over everyone. Then there was the random screaming of the wrong lyrics all followed up by snogging the face off each other, then her collapsing to the ground....repeat this process for two hours and i think you got of lightly lol people were there to have a good time and they did, i wouldn't have changed a thing! cool

biggrin Wasn't there also some drunk smeg who was wearing a Bulmers box, a Stella box etc on his arms and head?! I remember looking back and seeing him walking into ppl and being generally annoying.....

He walked into and i think spilt his drink on a small child that was on its dad's shoulders.... :/

It's just unique being funny. Elisa is not pregnant lol. I believe she said her daughter is about to start kindergarten or something like that, and she'll be back with the NPG after this tour. Missed her at Hop Farm, love her!

Hi ya'all!

What a superfunkicalifragisexy night! I was at the front from 12.20ish, I would love to have come over and put some faces to names i read all the time on here, but wouldnt give my little piece of land up at any cost!

I was the one in the black floppy hat, with purple scarf and the prince jewellery.(and purple vest)

Hi, to my purple people mates with the purple symbol on a stick. I only saw one purple balloon tho?

It was great to see his royal purpleness in such a great mood. So many smiles/laughs. I know he did a good stint but it felt like about 15minutes..... it flew by tooo fast!

30 years as a fan and i just love him more and more! Lets hope he comes back to us soon. I was a festival virgin before this but now know i aint too old to still hold my own at the front! lol!

Anytime, anyplace, anywhere i'll be there !

doffie, was it you who had the big fuck off DSLR with massive lens that security took off you at the start of the prince set but gave you back in time for the first "encore"? i think it was pentax on the branded camera strap and you had a baseball cap and shades with a band holding them round the back? standing next to a guy with a purple pork pie hat? i vaguely recognised that guy from somewhere like the prince parties. i don't usually pay the slightest bit of attention to guys, i just remember the hot chicks as i'm pretty shallow, although honest, good looking and modest

falloff no it wasn't me with the fancy camera... i'm a lady with a discreet lady's camera!! ... just a few heads behind u, behind the guys with the banners & next to jo from the boat parties...

i recognised u but didn't want to venture near cuz of potential piss puddles! j/k

& the bloke with the camera.. well that's cracked me up! props to him 4 trying.. he would have been better off back in the crowd, i saw loads of posh cameras.

i've got a sony cybershot, it's old but zooms 10x.. it's got a sports action feature which helps to stop blur

anyway nice views! nice pics! cool thread everyone!..

Wow, what great reviews and pics! Don't think I can add much to what has already been said.

Just wanted to add that for me Princes bum wiggle at the end of Kiss totally, completely made my night... Still thinking about it! lol

Other highlights for me were: Actually being there, as the day before I had sold my ticket thinking I couldn't make it, seeing loads of Prince mates and making a few new ones, Prince being on top form on EVERYTHING, Prince dancing loads, singing loads, playing with the crowd, the squeals at the end of Purple Rain (think that was the right song?) where he gave the instruction Las Vegas to the band for the ending. If I'm wrong please correct me. Seeing Prince hold the plectrum inbetween his fingers again in Purple Rain and thinking how does he never drop it! All the sexy footwork and dancing.. is it me but it seems more than ever?! Great timing for almost everything he did.. the spot light landing on him at exactly the right time etc.. how does he do that so well?? His playfulness with Andy Allo - dead cute.. she seems to bring out the mischievious side of Prince that I like..

Lowlights for me: Prince saying it was a beautiful night but then not singing it.. Please Prince don't tease me like that. Having the piano there and not playing it... I was waiting in vain at the end... Playing Dance for me at the Disco - surely please no...

Walking back to the car in the dark with crutches, not fun. Waiting for an hour and a half to get out of the car park.. not fun either ...

PLUS thank god I have the org community to talk to and share it with or else I would probably mad...

[Edited 7/5/11 13:54pm]

Shut up already, damn.

Well lords ladies and gentlemen where do I start.....Oh yea, this concert was freaking incredible.

While on paper the setlist may look boring, however, this couldn't be further from the truth. Prince's energy gave songs like 'Kiss' and 'Controversy'a new leases of life, while 'Purple Rain' and 'Little Red Corvette' were possibly the best I've heard in a very long time.....if not ever. Furthermore, to add to the experience, whilst our tiny icon was banging out 'Purple Rain' everyone around me either had a tear in their eyes or on the cuff.

Prince was on top top form and so was his band...however, I didn't see much point for Andy...but she is very cute!

It was fantastic meeting people from the org, and hope to see you all again soon!!

BTW.....Here is a few pix of Prince, me and the symbol!

Anyway, to the concert. Quite simply the best live performance I've seen from the man for a very long time. I think much of that however was down to the fact that it was at a festival and that big-stage environment really suited him. Absolutely loved 'We Live to Get Funky' what a way to start a gig.

My kids loved it too, they've been asking me since the gig if they can have the symbol incorporated into the way their bedroom is decorated. Talk about deja vu!! I was exactly the same when I was a kid!!

Hiya

I don't know if you remember me but I'm one of these people (Ginger hair and green True Funk Soldier T-Shirt in the second picture). I can tell you that all of the people in these pictures were at the front from at least 1oclock when I arrived. Some of us did occasionaly go off to use the bathroom or get water for each other as it was a 7 and a half hour wait in the bakeing sun. If anybody was bumped on the way back from the toilets then I'm sure it wasn't ment to be aggressive pushing but we were a group of people many who hadn't met each other before, We were looking after each others welfare making sure people didn't do stupid things like have no water or toilet breaks just for fear of losing there place.

I'm not doing this as an appology or as a telling you how it is. I just hope you look back on the whole thing with a much more positive attitude knowing that actually it was a group of fans taking care of each other and i'm sure if you needed a rest we would have been more than happy to hold that position for you and your kids.

By the way many of us were also fans for 20 or even 30 years and some of us were first time Prince concert goers (being a fan that long means nothing)... I'm sorry you saw only half the story as you hadn't been there as long as us but if you look at footage of Allo Black or Larry Grahams footage you will see that Purple Symbol on a stick that we were all around......

Also if you take 7 and 8 year olds to the front of a gig it's a sad fact but they are gonna run the risk of getting bumped or crushed

Actually if you care to look at the second photo you can see that Imelda May the third act is on the video screen so that's a bit of proof right there

Then there was the random screaming of the wrong lyrics all followed up by snogging the face off each other, then her collapsing to the ground....repeat this process for two hours and i think you got of lightly lol people were there to have a good time and they did, i wouldn't have changed a thing! cool

the purple people, with the symbol totally deserved their place in crowd they were there from early morning and I should know cause I was at the side of them all day and they were all very cool and I was one of the oldest there ,30 year fan, taking ibrufen for the aches and pains still smiling though. xx

Hi Dotty was I bumping shoulders with you... If so you've got some moves my dear. Also Joyinrepition thank you shame you got the drunks you were always welcome to the sing along with us.

I've sent the Sun a complaint about their shit story about Prince's demands
And name calling showing little respect!
They have replied saying that I'm in the short list to have my letter printed ,
Which will win me £50!

wait till you see the review in the sun. it's a corker

we couldn't find our car either. never thought of looking for signs and the place is massive. found it though in the end. the delay didnt matter as no-one could get out anyways

I saw this today at work, typical SUN rubbish, bit i was surprised that the second half of the review lauded the concert as brilliant

What a privilege it was to Prince at Hop Farm on Sunday...we should be pleased the guy is still around and can put on performances like this, it really was a fantastic concert and an experience that left everyone I've spoken to on a high.

Ah yes, I remember you guys. You were the ones who thought you could just push past everybody to the front at about 10 past 8 with absolutely no regard whatsoever about anybody else who had been standing there for 5 hours plus. I also had my young kids with me (7 & 8) who both love Prince and were almost trampled by the big guy in the very camp purple camouflage gear.

I'm not normally somebody who spreads negativity but you lot were well out of order. I've been a fan of Prince's for 20 years and I would never dream of acting the way you lot did, as if you had more right than those in front of you to get to the front.

If that is the case then I'll apologise. To be honest I just remember the big guy barging past people to get back to the front. I've no problem with people getting back to the place they had originally staked out but to be honest it was the lack of subtelty with which it was done. It is frightening when your kids are there and I'm not naive enough to think that they wouldn't get a little bit squashed and what not but it is still frightening. When we first got our spot there was plenty of room. Anyway, I'll apologise again if I was wrong, hope everyone had a good un, we certainly did.
