From WFAA-TV:

DALLAS - The charitable organization that was bringing recording artist Prince to Dallas for a charity event Friday night canceled the concert, said it was back on and has once again canceled the event at the InterContinental Dallas.

At 1:21 p.m. Friday, the Goss-Michael Foundation released the following statement:

"We are extremely disappointed that theEvent featuring Prince, scheduled for Friday, February 4, at the Intercontinental Hotel, has been cancelled. It is our understanding that the River Alexander Group, the event organizer was unable to fund and produce the evening. The organizer came to the Goss-Michael Foundation, invited us to be the beneficiary and receive some of the proceeds which would have gone to our high school scholarship program."

Less than an hour later, the foundation "rescinded" that announcement, saying that "circumstances had changed," adding this terse statement:

"Prince has arrived in Dallas and will perform this evening."

Organizers said while Prince's band showed up, the singer was an actual no-show. However, sources said that Prince did show up, but never got out of his vehicle before leaving the hotel all-together in the early evening.

The Prince event was billed as "an all-inclusive soiree" with music, art, food spirits and more. Erykah Badu was also scheduled to perform.

Ticket prices started at $1,500, and were still available online at 2 p.m. Friday.

Yes. Skipping a charity benefit for high school scholarships because you wouldn't get paid enough is not a brilliant PR move. Now can I get my T-shirt?

Just saw a bit about it on the channel 8 news. They were saying something about how 'no explaination was given as to why people were left waiting out in the cold.'

Prince isn't going to be popular in Dallas for a while.

The sad thing is, I bet he could have packed the American Airlines Center if he had given a regular concert instead of this exclusive soiree. He's probably sulking in his hotel room now, blaming everyone but himself for this disaster.

I thought they would have rescheduled it for tomorrow, but I guess it doesn't look that way.

Well ya know. with this being Superbowl weekend, it may not be too late for him to do a last minute show at a venue tomorrow night in Dallas. I'm sure there's a lot of pre-superbowl events happening before Sunday, and the fact that some celebrities are in town, maybe he could perform at one of them. Wouldn't hurt to try and it may take the sting out of some fans who paid money to see him perform at the now cancelled event tonight. shrug

A make-up show would be nice for those who could attend. But some of tonight's would-be attendees might take it as an insult if they already have tickets to another event that is scheduled at the same time. Also, what's the guarantee that he would show up for the make-up event? Some of the people who had tickets for tonight may not be familiar with Prince and his history of failing to deliver on promises. Remember that old Texas saying, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... how does it go again?

As far as I'm concerned, the best way for Prince to make it up to me would be to finally start releasing those remasters that he supposedly owns. I will forgive everything if I get remastered deluxe editions of Dirty Mind and Controversy by the end of the year.

I saw Roger Waters The Wall Live at the AAC a couple months ago and it looked close to a sellout. Given that Prince hasn't been here in almost 7 years, I think he would have done at least as well, Super Bowl or no Super Bowl. I'm not mad at Prince. Anyone on the org who bought tickets knowing the history was taking a risk. I'm mad at the organizers who provided misleading information and STILL haven't given an official cancellation notice.

True. If the people in charge of the event knew the tix sales were low from 2 days ago, then maybe they should have considered cancelling it, and then P and his band would not have made the trip out there.. That was tacky for the ones in charge of this event, to not have the money that was agreed upon. Business is business. He has a band to pay and travel/hotel expenses, etc. to cover. Like Prince said a long time ago "Don't Play Me", so I guess he bounced when he realized they came up short. shrug

I also seem to recall the man saying, "Nothing comes for free." But I wasn't looking for a free concert; I paid for my tickets. I blame the organizers for failing to meet Prince's demands. That said, I think he looks silly for canceling given that it was a charity event, regardless of the details. Like I said, offer me some remasters and it's all good. I'll pay full price for them.

Hey watch it lady, no no no! don't let my Caribbean side come out (just kidding).hug lol Anyway, never said it was P's fault, but since he's in Dallas he could make the best of it, since he took the time to fly over there for that event, and the ppl in charge of the event basically wasted his time. Maybe he could play at one of the pre-Superbowl events happening around town since he's already there or he could just jump on the plane and come to New York and rehearse for the Monday show at MSG.

Don't get it twisted. This was NOT a charity event. The charity was a beneficiary of the event but ultimately this was just a concert with a charity angle.

That's not how it's going to be perceived by the public. Prince may not care. I honestly don't care either, except that the more his potential fanbase shrinks, the less likely we will eventually get additional U.S. tours, remasters, officially released albums, etc.

Please, don't beat me up for saying this: But for some reason I always thought that when musicians did a concert for charity that they performed for free and any money made from the cost of tickets/donations went toward the cause. Someone enlighten me on how all of this works, because I don't want to come down hard on Prince for not showing up if he was not at fault. It just seems mean and cold to sit in your car the entire evening while people are waiting to see you perform, esp. since the event was about helping the youth and giving back. Why not put the money issue aside and just do the show because you care about the cause/charity? Once again, enlighten me on this, please...go easy on me!lol:lol:
