I had signed up to volunteer and I was gonna make the drive from Oklahoma City, but unfortunately the weather and roads are simply too bad. They let volunteers know that if you wanted to watch the show there would be a $45 food/drink charge.. but you'd be able to watch P play. smile

No it's not too late! They are accepting volunteers up until 12AM.

Email theevent@blackbookink.com.

and quote this in your email.

Thank you for your patience as we finalize details for theEvent today. We apologize that things have run into the final hours. This has been a very challenging week and we are blessed with an incredible venue but with the move and weather came many production variables.

There have been an overwhelming influx of volunteers and we do not want to turn anyone away. Because of the hotel, there are hard costs to theEvent per person, including staff, so instead of turning more than half of you away we have decided to ask that each of you who would like to see the show pay the $45 food and beverage head fee. If you do not want to see the show, but you still want to volunteer in front of house, you will not be required to pay the $45 head fee.

As soon as you receive this email please reply with confirmation of your attendance, and whether or not you will be donating your $45 head fee. Upon arrival you will be given your assignment. Thanks!

1. Call time is 3pm-12am.
2. Please dress in all black- cocktail and business attire.

We thank you again for volunteering your time and look forward to seeing you this afternoon.

Black Book Ink

Say you want to help out. They'll put you on the list.

Eek... Carrie says they stopped at 5. Email/call and see?

Cancelled? Well the weather is so bad all over Texas I don't know how they wouldn't cancel things there. I'd rather everyone be safe than to have to go through it and get hypothermia.

Thanks for the heads-up. This is ridiculous. Are they planning to send out an official email? Or are they waiting for everyone to drive up there first? Imagine the irony if someone got in an accident driving to the event because they weren't informed of the cancellation.

CallMeCarrie said they were playing "Hot Thing" at one of the ballrooms at the location....well this could turn out to be some Hot Mess....

1) She says they told her "the benefit is cancelled. They told us that prince's flight was cancelled so the event is off"

2) However on page 3 of this Thread, Amerozzie is saying "Prince is in ft worth ....omni."

Got any proof of that Amerozzie?

3) Also on page 3 of this Thread from SCNDLS...

Prince's Super Bowl conce...rescinded

The high-dollar soiree featuring Prince scheduled for Friday night was been canceed.

A statement released by Joyce Goss, Executive Director, The Goss-Michael Foundation stated: "We are extremely disappointed that theEvent featuring Prince, scheduled for Friday, February 4, at the Intercontinental Hotel, has been canceled. It is our understanding that River Alexander Group, the event organizer, was unable to fund and produce the evening. The organizer came to The Goss-Michael Foundation, invited us to be the beneficiary and receive some of the proceeds which would have gone to our high school scholarship program."

A few hours later, the foundation released this.

"Circumstances have changed and TheEvent featuring Prince WILL take place this evening. The previous statement is rescinded. Prince has arrived in Dallas and will perform this evening."

The price for admission to the concert was $1,500 for a single ticket that included general admission, open bar and food stations

So we go from Venue move, to Cancellation, to back On, to Cancelled again =

HOT MESS lol eek lol

Exactly. That's why I can't take this latest cancellation seriously. If they rescind this latest cancellation and Prince actually shows up on stage, I want to be there. But I'm not driving up to Addison if the concert really is cancelled.

I called the InterContinental Hotel. The first person to answer the phone told me that the concert had not been cancelled. Then I was transferred to someone else who told me that the concert was in fact not happening.

Prince's fans have come to expect this kind of thing, of course. But the publicity people for the organizers need to send out an official notice, and soon. I'm guessing Jennifer Aniston is not reading this blog.

From WFAA-TV:

DALLAS - The charitable organization that was bringing recording artist Prince to Dallas for a charity event Friday night canceled the concert, said it was back on and has once again canceled the event at the InterContinental Dallas.

At 1:21 p.m. Friday, the Goss-Michael Foundation released the following statement:

"We are extremely disappointed that theEvent featuring Prince, scheduled for Friday, February 4, at the Intercontinental Hotel, has been cancelled. It is our understanding that the River Alexander Group, the event organizer was unable to fund and produce the evening. The organizer came to the Goss-Michael Foundation, invited us to be the beneficiary and receive some of the proceeds which would have gone to our high school scholarship program."

Less than an hour later, the foundation "rescinded" that announcement, saying that "circumstances had changed," adding this terse statement:

"Prince has arrived in Dallas and will perform this evening."

Organizers said while Prince's band showed up, the singer was an actual no-show. However, sources said that Prince did show up, but never got out of his vehicle before leaving the hotel all-together in the early evening.

The Prince event was billed as "an all-inclusive soiree" with music, art, food spirits and more. Erykah Badu was also scheduled to perform.

Ticket prices started at $1,500, and were still available online at 2 p.m. Friday.

So the official word given to us was that Prince's flight got cancelled, but....

the unofficial talk around the hotel with the staff that were working the event said that Prince is actually in town. (His flight did have some delays landing, but he is here.) They said that they didn't raise enough money to pay him, so he didn't want to do the event.

Regardless, they completely broke down the stage, packed up the food, rolled away the tables, gave us our money back, bye bye.

I talked to a girl who bought a $1500 ticket and she said she was told she will receive a refund.

I tried to find out from Erykah's band about the after party. They are having one with Erykah DJing it, but didn't think that Prince was going to be at it.

Who knows where he'll pop up tonight.

From the Dallas Morning News:

Prince's band shows up fo... a no-show

After announcing that Prince's Super Bowl concert was back on earlier today, the Dallas Morning News' Arnessa Garrett just e-mailed and said Prince's band showed up for tonight's concert.

But Prince? Well, he was a no-show: I'm at the Intercontinental Dallas," Garrett said. "Prince is a no show. Organizers say his band made it but Prince didn't."

On again, off again, it looks like fans hoping see Prince will have to live with seeing his band instead.

http://superbowlblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/02/princes-band-shows-up-for-conc.html

Who'd be up for seeing a concert with Erykah Badu and Prince's band? I would (but not for $1500). Maybe we could take turns singing the vocals to Prince's songs.

I think the unofficial talk is probably right. Sorry you had to volunteer without getting to see the man play. Prince, if you're reading this, I'm sure any of us would be happy to give you a tour of Dallas attractions in return for a personal concert.
