1. No one is ever "slumming" in Williamsburg. It is one of the hippest places on the planet.

2. This mere "bowling alley" hosted shows by Kanye West, Snoop, N.E.R.D. and the Roots last year.

3. ?uestlove DJ's there all the time and he is going to be there tonight.

4. Maceo is on the bill and the last time Prince played an aftershow in NYC it was with Maceo in Brooklyn.

5. The show is a benefit show for a great cause so I doubt Prince would try to gain financially by tacking on an extra cost and make people who were supporting Haitian Relief file out of the club to buy tickets to get back in.

6. Brooklyn Bowl is run by club promoters who have been instrumental in the NYC nightlife for over 30 years.

7. Show some faith and feel the vibe. Tonight is the night for all us NY'ers!!!

LOL. People dissing BK? Damn tourists. Let em stay in Times Square and eat at TGIF. Tonight, We make love..........

lol I live in NYC (and have been to all five boroughs, several times). Williamsburg and the L are two of my least favorite things about NYC, thanks to the hipsters. Oh, and I wouldn't be caught dead at TGIF. lol So GTFOH with the "damn tourists" thing. rolleyes

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Hipsters are pretty fucking annoying....but I will deal with them in order to see this show tonight. I enjoy Dr. John, Maceo, and ?uestlove anyway, so the show with or without Prince will be a good time. But judging on the evidence out there, and granted it is largely rumor, Prince is going to show up and play. For how long is anyone's guess....

LOL! I just called BB. Woman was very nice. She said SHE doesn't even know if he's gonna show up tonight. It's so funny that she didn't even mention his name and neither did I, but we both knew who we were talking about. lol

I say if you're out 30 or 50 dollars and you can afford it it's not a huge deal given the potential reward. Plus Prince can "slum it" in Williamsburg if he's got a driver that'll take him there, and wait for him, and take him back to his hotel later. I'd slum it everywhere if I had that.

I'd also imagine that the ticket to the show will get you in cause you'd already be IN. I highly doubt that they'd make you leave only to have you purchase ANOTHER ticket. If he's gonna be there and perform and you have a ticket, you should be good to go.

That's the thing, if it's a rumored afterparty you're taking a chance, because there was and still is no definite announcement that he will be there or even perform, since it is not an aftershow. So you're pretty much taking a chance with getting tix for the Haiti event hoping he'll show up. Good luck with that though.biggrin

:lol:at this whole thread. There's a RUMOR by the drummer of a band that Prince might be there and you all are buying tickets and expecting a jam session. As Genesia pointed out earlier in the thread there is a big difference between afterparty and aftershow.

Also, do you think IF there is an afterparty/show that your ticket to the Soul II Soul gig is going to get you in? I would think you'd have to buy another/separate ticket.

Not to mention, I can't really see Prince slumming it in Williamsburg, and at a bowling alley of all places.

This is all just my own speculation, of course.

1. No one is ever "slumming" in Williamsburg. It is one of the hippest places on the planet.

Jack, if you're talking about in June 2006, when Prince just happened to show up to see Maceo perform in Prospect Park in Brooklyn in June 2006, and got on stage and jammed with him for a few minutes, that was not an aftershow.

It's always a gamble with this dude for sure. I love it but hate it at the same time. It's like "Should I? Shouldn't I?" I don't have a ticket at the moment for that very reason. I hesitated and u know how that goes... he who hesitates.. etc. etc.

I wish those who are going godspeed. I hope you get what you're waiting for, the epic Prince afterparty NYCers have been waiting for since he announced these shows at the Apollo.

lol I hear you, but usually if it's not an official announcement then I never take those rumors as confirmed, but more or less speculation. I guess it's a gamble some Prince fans take hoping he does show up at venues he's "rumored" to be at. Anyway, enjoy the MSG show tonight, I'm sitting this one out due to other plans made 2 months ago. Again, enjoy!biggrin

And that's the other thing. It's an after PARTY at the moment, not an after SHOW. That will all depend entirely on Prince. I did get into VU but all I did was stand around watching some mediocre band and by the time I turned around Prince had left. Huge womp. I mean that was cool and all, but yeah. The unpredictability of Mr. Nelson is all folks have to go on.

Im gonna try one more avenue to secure a ticket. If I do great, if I don't... oh well. I'm not going to the show tonight but I will be at the one on 2/7. I guess that will have to serve as my Prince fix.

Looks like that "rumor" helped to sell a lot of tickets for that Haiti Benefit though.

er

Can someone confirm this - is Maceo playing with Prince at MSG? I ran on the assumption that he was still part of Prince's band, but I think I'm wrong.

People on Phish's phantasytour message boards have also caught wind of the rumor...

True. Not a bad thing, Haiti needs the help.

And to the above, I don't think anyone other than Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings has been confirmed to open for Prince tonight. Maceo is no longer a part of P's band, but did open for him at one of the IZOD shows.

Exactly, especially when many are still living in tents, starving, lack of necessary medicines and supplies on a timely basis, due to red tape, and the recent outbreak of cholera. Such a shame and lawd if they haven't suffered enough. disbelief

As far as Sharon and the Dap Kings, she has a great voice, very soulful from what I've seen from her performance in videos, but I've never seen her perform live, would have loved to if I was going tonight. Anyway, if you decide to go to BB, enjoy the show and if P does show up, enjoy it even more.

Maybe Prince wont be there... but it will be a great show regardless, and if Prince does show, I think he will take the stage for a while.

you are right. Prince will be there. Same hint we getting from BB event director, plus event poster is PURPLE.

I wish I was there too. The roads are pretty bad in CT to travel there. So disappointed. I hope on 2/7/11 will be better.

And BTW why Prince had to do all this in winter?? He should doing shows in CA right now and in spring in NYC!

The roads? I am heading in from Westchester and driving slowly. You have until at least midnight if P is the only act you are interested in seeing. These events only come around a few times a decade in NYC.

I am guessing he will be there. But with P you never know unless he shows up or is on the bill.

You have to have faith in the night. I am leaving now to go over with my ticket.

Left the main gig after Baby I'm a Star and got into BB. Maceo must have wings cause he was playing as we waked in. Lettuce just finished and they said they have a lot more music left. This'll be my only post cause I don't have any juice on my phone! If you're around come thru. Even if Prince doesn't show up, it's for a great cause. They have $30 tix still avail. Cash only. If he performs will post a review tomorrow.
