Are you sure you don't want to check out www.expedia.com or www.nyc.com for discounts on hotels in NYC? There are some discounts in some pretty good hotels, not far from MSG with rates from $79.00 - $99.00 plus tax at both sites. You should try those links first before going directly to a specific hotel's website.
Also there are hostels in NYC where some charge as low as $15.00 per night. Here's a listing of hostels, you may be interested in if you change your mind.
Also, the subway and buses are about $2.50 each way, if you decide to use our subways/buses, and can't afford cab fare to get around, depending on where you are coming from.
You can also go to this thread for info on travel/hotel/hostels/bus/subway, etc. in getting around in NYC.

^That sounds easily affordable, $15 for a hostel.

Indeed, you can spend the night in NY for less than $50 (incl. transport).
And if you really, absolutely can not spend more than your $216 ticket, well those $216 should get you a decent ticket + accomodations... |

I went to the Izod shows from Cali... Hotels and planes should be less expensive now. I was able to get some good deals through Expedia.com. Consider comparing different airports to fly into. 2elijah's thread on hotels and transportation (a sticky on here) was invaluable to me... I stayed at the Chelsea Star Hotel, which has hostel rooms. It was a great place, I'd definitely recommend it. And it was seriously like a 5 minute walk from Madison Square Garden. |

Don't worry, reports here say the show is more than substandard. |
