@ bolded part. Exactly it was time to leave it. That guy (2freak) was ridiculous in thinking he could dictate to ‘all’ African-Americans how they should think, vote for, what to eat, read, drink, read, speak and other stereotyped bs, as though we’re monolithic. It’s insulting. When we didn’t agree with him, he’d go off the handle making false accusations about us. I’ve had enough of that, and don’t play that bs, especially when it was clear, by his many postings he was consumed by that type of ignorance. Anyway we both made the right decision to leave that forum before it closed, and it was just time to move on from the forum/site period. There are two forms of steelmanning - They both are strengthening the argument made by a person. The debate form is strengthen the opponent's argument, then counter both the original argument and the improved argument - this is differs from a strawman argument because the counter argument only addresses the changes made by the respondent to the original argument and not the original argument. The political support form is to strengthen the presenter from your side's argument to correct for their errors eg "what he really meant was ...".

In your example, despite your claim that George did not answer, George did answer by pointing the commentator to a counter argument. He did not strengthen the commentator's argument, so we do not call this steel manning.

Thanks SoulAlive, but as you can see from this thread, it’s really not worth it. However, I do hope whomever the new mods are, that they bring a much needed, positive change. Over the years I’ve met some cool people here, including you, and there are others whom I can stay in touch with elsewhere.
