This looks worse than Guardians of the Galaxy in my opinion. The attempt at being "edgy" by having unnecessary swearing and stupidly over-the-top violence in place of a good story just screams lazy filmmaking. Plus, I'm so bored of Harley Quinn now. Her solo movie was one of the worst movies I've ever seen and this looks like it's cut from the same cloth. In fact, it may be the point where I'm officially calling it quits with regards DC movies. Looking at their proposed release schedule there's nothing there that looks even remotely interesting.

Interesting. It's worth noting though that Civil War is one of their highest rated movies, critically. It would have been interesting to see how such a movie would turn out had they waited until they got the rights to X-Men back though. A proper Man of Steel sequel seems like an impossibility now doesn't it? It's a shame. Christopher Reeve will always be "my" Superman but Henry Cavill's version was different enough that you can't really compare the two. So both could co-exist as the "definitive" version of the character due to them essentially playing two different versions of Superman. I kind of feel the same about Ben Affleck's Batman too. Michael Keaton is my favourite Batman but his take on the character is very different to pretty much every other version I've ever seen. He's never depicted as a tough as nails hand-to-hand combat expert and so instead relies on theatricality to scare the bad guys and almost win the fight before it starts. He's also crazy as fuck and it's believable that someone like him would dress as a bat to beat the shit out of Gotham's criminals. Affleck's Batman was more in line with the animated series or the Arkham videogames. He absolutely is a tough as nails hand-to-hand combat expert and he will use those skills to violently take out his enemies. That one fight scene in Batman Vs Superman was enough to get me excited for a solo Batfleck movie. And whereas Keaton would likely still be my favourite take on the character I think Affleck is different enough to set him apart and so there's be no need to compare the two.

To me, Keaton's Batman is a darker version from the 60's, Bale's is what Batman would be in the real(our) world, and Affleck is the closest to Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns (it's like he was lifted straight from that graphic novel). I owe Affleck an apology (same as Keaton)....he nailed that shit. Those are my top 3 Batmans. We'll what Pattinson does in the role.
The DCEU is fucked, so don't get any hopes for Man of Steel 2. The time to do it was before BvS. It's a shame, because I like the darkness of the DC films over the silly one-liners from Marvel (even though I was bigger fan of Marvel comics growing up).

We're talking about a movie based on a videogame. I'm not expecting "The Godfather", but already this looks wayyyy better than the 90s MK films. The first one was ok for its time, but Annihilation was a hot mess.

It's a shame, because I like the darkness of the DC films over the silly one-liners from Marvel (even though I was bigger fan of Marvel comics growing up). Yeah I've completely given up hope of Man of Steel 2 or of WB making another decent superhero movie at all for the foreseeable future. I didn't know any Marvel characters as a kid with the exception of Spider-Man (the 90s animated series & Tobey Maguire movie) and the X-Men (90s animated series and the Bryan Singer movie). So I never really had that same connection to Marvel as I had with DC. There were times when I was younger where I'd watch all 4 Reeve Superman movies back to back. Even the two shit movies. I even watched that awful Supergirl movie and enjoyed it at the time. And Tim Burton's Batman movies are, to my mind, the definitive Batman movies. Although even as a child I hated the Joel Schumacher movies. The Batman and Superman animated shows if the 90s are, to me, the greatest superhero projects ever. That's why I have always preferred DC over Marvel. I also loved Static Shock and the Justice League cartoons. With the modern movies, the MCU & DCEU, I much prefer the Marvel projects though. Even though I don't have previous knowledge of most of the characters, I find the Marvel movies to be better made, more exciting movies. I like the light-hearted tone. It adds to the overall sense of fun. It puts me in mind of some of my favourite action movies, Romancing The Stone, Indiana Jones, True Lies etc. Just fun, well made movies. Having said that, I liked the darker tone of the DCEU too. It was a good contrast to the Marvel movies. I wish WB had more faith in Zack Snyder because I think he was doing something special. But as we've all said in this thread, WB are clueless. They ruined it. Best case scenario going forward is that they sell DC or DC just goes independent. But I'm done talking about it now at this stage. Thinking about what might have been is kind of depressing. I'll still watch and enjoy the MCU going forward but unfortunately my favourite characters, the ones I grew up watching, are essentially dead for me. At least I still have the old DVDs. Batman '89 is one of the best Batman films, I'll give you that (even though it had its share of cringe moments - an armoured Batplane taken down by a pea-shooter???? that's stretching it). Batman Returns was a mess - I could have done without Danny DeVito's overacting. A Batman/Catwoman film would have been great.
I love the Nolan trilogy, but for me, the definitive Batman movie would have been Affleck's. His Dark Knight is the closest to Frank Miller's, which I consider THE Batman.

I feel what people say they like the Nolan Trilogy they mean that they like the first and second movies and that they include Dark Knight Rises just for the sake of it. Because that movie is pretty terrible. Boring, overlong, plot holes, poor villain, crap Catwoman, stupid ending.

Ava DuVernay's 'New Gods,' James Wan's 'The Trench' DC Movies Not Moving Forward at Warner Bros. Warner Bros. and DC Films' upcoming slate is moving forward without Ava DuVernay's New Gods and James Wan's Aquaman spinoff, The Trench. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Ava sure ends up leaving a lot of projects. I wasn't into the Aquaman movie. Love Jason as the character but I found the movie...overwhelming and bloated. But the theater I went to there was applause at the end so I guess it wasn't geared to me. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Neither sounded particularly interesting.

I mean, it was kind of crap but a good kind of crap. Like, just ridiculously stupid but also mindless entertainment. I really dislike Amber Heard though.

The best I can do is to say that I liked it for the same reason I like Steven Seagal movies. But yeah, even I have no interest in Aquaman 2.

Actually that would be typical of WB to go with the lame-ass Mr. Mxyzptlk instead of Superman's real badass villians (Brainiac, Mongol, Parasite, Metallo). If there is a MoS 2, it HAS to be Brainiac. He's one of Supes classic bad guys - please, enough with Luthor.

Dwayne Johnson Reportedly...Of Steel 2I wish they'd stop letting The Rock act in movies. Though if he helps get Man Of Steel 2 made, I'll be willing to concede that he is the People's Champion.

It's been reported that Michael Keaton is officially back as Batman in The Flash movie. It had been rumored before now. Keaton has a 10 picture movie deal as Batman with WB. They are options not guarantees. They might end up with a TV series on HBO MAX. Focusing on the older Batman. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I guess they'll digitally de-age him for flashbacks to when he was Batman but for the most part he'll be a retired Bruce Wayne in an advisory role to The Flash. As long as they bring back the real Gotham City and the real Batman theme song and the real Batmobile then I'm happy. I'm literally not expecting anything good from DC movies anymore but if they have the real Batman, Batmobile, theme song and Gotham City then it has to be better than anything else they've put out since Batman Returns.
