The post-summer Workout thread

Now that summer is slowly coming to a close (for us northern hemisphere dwellers at least) sun

HOW MANY of you kept your gym/workout promises from last winter???

Come on...if you contributed to one of many "gym" or "workout" threads in preparation for summer...you know what you stated.

Did you make good on your promises?

Did you achieve & flaunt your beach body?

Did you flake out?

Did you spend summer covered up under large t-shirts?

boxed

Is summer of 2013 your new "goal"? lol

AND for all you "down under"...now that YOUR SUMMER is approaching...are you working out? Do you have goals you wish to meet?

DISCUSS!

I live where it is Summer about 10 months out of the year.

I was doing really good exercising up until this week. Next week we are going down to stay near the beach for a week. I was trying to get in shape for that.

My goal was to have my old stomach by Oct but not sure that will happen now.

My husband has been exercising and dieting and has lost over 2 stone (28 pounds) in about 8 weeks. He has much more motivation and drive than me.

We have made changes to our diet that have helped both of us.

Lifestyle changes and substituting healthier things in your diet help a lot.

I've lost 26 pounds so far this year - 13 of that I'd gained over the last several months, the other 13 is "new" loss.

I'm down 63 pounds from the most I've ever weighed.

I was off my diet last week as I was in Vegas, but I plan to continue on. I'd like to lose another 17, but we'll see. I've slowed down a lot and it's getting harder to restrict my calories, so maybe I'll maintain here for a while. I'm down a clothing size and feeling pretty good.

The loss has come all from diet, though. I've been riding my bike and working out in the gym in my building sporadically, but no major routines. I just try to be active as much as possible.

Ugh lol Things went wrong for me with this fitness stuff. I started off the summer having to take off about 3 weeks from working out all together because I got the genius idea to take a ridiculously difficult class this summer. I got an A in the class at least cool Once that was done, I got back into things. I was in the gym 3-4 times a week and lost a few pounds. Then I messed up my elbow neutral Took off another week and when I felt better, I got back in the gym. I had a good couple of days in there and then I hurt my dang back dead I haven't been back in 2 weeks. I've been doing some light stuff at home and doing outdoorsy things, but I've had to really take it easy. Makes me mad lol

I started off by pressuring my friend to join my gym with the excuse that we'd motivate each other.

That lasted all of about a month.

It was all;

"Gym tonight?"

"No I got the kids."

"Gym tonight?"

"No my wife wants me to do XXX."

"Gym tonight?"

"No, I am going to a concert."

"Gym tonight?"
"No, I've got company."

disbelief

So, my aim to develop a six-pack for the summer turned into a different accomplishment altogether (I discovered that it TAKES a six-pack of Dos Equis lager in bottles for the room to spin).

Whether it's summer or winter, I go to the gym 4 times a week and almost never skip a session.

In fact I miss it if I don't work out, I get a lot of energy out of it and feel great afterwards.

luckily I never had to loose weight. In fact, if anything I struggle to keep the weight on.

I'm happy with the way I look and that to me is what matters. Besides working out I really enjoy eating healthy, organic food and don't eat junk food, don't drink soda's etc.

I will continue this lifestyle until I kick the bucket.

I've been hitting the iron four days a week since I joined NYSC in '98. For the past several months I've used Dr. Layne Norton's PHAT routine. Best thing I ever did. I'm leaner and stronger now at 51 than I was 10 years ago.

The weight is coming off pretty steadily due to going raw vegan again, though I fluctuate between 40% raw and 90% raw depending on my busy schedule.

I haven't been to the gym in 3 weeks, and am not likely to for about 2 more weeks due to the end-of-semester schedule.

Plus, we're dealing with a family tragedy of sorts right now, and that takes priority.

Congrats to all of those how have lost weight! grouphug

Starting from Aug. 2011 to the present, I've lost a total of 26 pounds. I've been fluctuating and bouncing between 2-3 pounds since April of this year and haven't really lost anything major. It's frustrating, but for the past couple of weeks, I've been getting back into my gym routine, working out at least 3-4 times a week in the gym, maintaining a good diet (though I've tripped up a couple of times but got back in the swing right away) and praying to God that when I weigh myself this coming Saturday morning butt naked on my scale that I will have broken out of my plateau.

I'm going to lose (have to speak in faith) 25 more pounds. I've made a pact to myself, that when I do lose the 25, that I will challenge myself and lose 10 more.

Wish me luck thumbs up! batting eyes

Well it seems that the majority of you stuck to your plans/goals.

pout

Now I need to get serious. (Yes, I've said this before fishslap )

Here's my proclamation;

By February 2013 I will lose my gut.

There's a Food Network Food & Wine Festival in South Beach (Miami) that I want to go to.

My goal is to be in shape so I can hit Miami Beach and take my shirt off. nod

I need to stop with the soda again (I was doing so good!), I need to cut back on bread & chips. And I need to cut back on beer.

uPtoWnNY - you've mentioned kettlebells before...I think my gym has these stations with straps/bands that are supposed to do the same thing.

shrug

Actually there's a BIG Planet Fitness opening up near my office...I might switch gyms for the cheaper monthly rate. My friend is doing crossfit and wants me to check it out...but I think he pays like $200/month!!!

A bit over my budget.

Whatever the case, I need to get my ass in gear.

Miami here I come!!!

My gym has kettlebell classes, however, they are only available in the mornings. pout I sent the manager an email asking if they would add some evening classes for those of us who umm...work during the day. They said that it would be a good idea and would consider it, however, I see that the schedule hasn't changed. Maybe they feel they won't get enough participation with evening kettlebell classes, but that's donkey balls because the gym is pretty big. Maybe I'll send another follow up email requesting it again.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Aside from the trainers, I'm one of four dudes at my gym who can do reps with 16 45lb. plates(8 on each side) on the seated leg press machine. I love the reaction I get when the younger cats find out my real age. Once in a while, they'll ask me for advice - I just tell them, eat good stuff and lift hard(and with proper form). This shit ain't rocket science. Same goes for the women - weights are your friend.

@PurpleJedi - fall & winter are when you have to KICK UP your workouts. No time for backsliding!

I don't mean any harm, but sometimes, the weight area can be quite intimidating...especially if I go to the gym around rush hour, the time most of everyone gets off from work. There was a point about 6 months ago or so that I would walk in there like whatever, I'm working out. Some guys would stand around as if I had "taken their bench" and was hogging it. I just use to bat my eyes and say politely "oh are you waiting for this particular bench?" They would try to play it off "oh you good"...and I would respond back "Oh don't worry, I'll just be about 5-10 more minutes, thanks" and I wouldn't rush at all, take my time. I don't know if I annoyed or impressed them lol But I didn't care because I had to get my workout in.

Then I fell off with the gym when it got warm and messed up and ended up in the cardio area once again without spending anytime at all in the weight area. But I'm determined to get back to that weight area again..as a matter of fact, I'm going to go back Saturday morning. thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

HOW MANY of you kept your gym/workout promises from last winter??? It´s part of my lifestyle, it´s part of who I am, it is part of my life just like sleeping, eating and drinking. I don´t see working out and physical fitness as something that needs to be part of some sort of new year´s resolution or something I promise to start in the winter or early spring to see results in the summer....it´s an every day, every week, every season thing for me. Not an obsession but simply part of my life and what I am.

Come on...if you contributed to one of many "gym" or "workout" threads in preparation for summer...you know what you stated. I´ve managed to lose a good amount of body fat and one of my ex-girlfriends whom I met today noticed this and commented on my toned body. I wasn´t really fat before but I did look heavier. Funny thing is that I actually weigh 4 lbs more than the last time she saw me but that´s because I increased my muscle mass on my deltoids and arms. But I´m not going for the overly buff look. Athletic and muscular is what I´m striving for.

Did you make good on your promises? I eat even better than before...more fruit, more veggies, more protein, a bit more sleep, and I lost body fat and increased my muscle mass. I eat cleaner and more natural.

Did you achieve & flaunt your beach body? Achieve it? I don´t know. Flaunt it? No. lol The summer was way too cold and rainy in Germany. Then I flew to Turkey to get some sunshine. Most of the time I was wearing a t-shirt with cut-off sleeves at the beach, especially while snorkeling because the sun was too strong and I didn´t want to get burned, and when my skin got used to it and I had a nice tan I didn´t really feel like flaunting it because I was too busy swimming in the water, or snorkeling.

Did you flake out? No, not even on vacation. First I did a workout using my Samsonite suitcase ( it weighed 40 lbs when full), and I swam a lot, and then I looked for a gym in that small town (or village) where I was staying, found one, paid for three or four sessions there and felt great knowing that I had not missed out on my workout schedule. I love being strong and fit and athletic even though I´m not really into sports at all.

Did you spend summer covered up under large t-shirts? No, I rarely wear large t-shirts. They just don´t look good on me. I do have some large(r) sweatshirts though.

Tight shirts can look horrible on you when you´re too fat but they can also motivate you. lol

boxed

Is summer of 2013 your new "goal"? lol Looking good for the summer season has never been a goal of mine. Fitness is a 24/7, 365 thing to me.

AND for all you "down under"...now that YOUR SUMMER is approaching...are you working out? Do you have goals you wish to meet?
