Those of you who are more advanced should give Dr. Norton's routine a shot. It's done wonders for me. Just read Kool's testimony.

I'm still having a hard time just getting TO the gym...never mind getting to that state of fitness!

Like I said - if you can swing it, pay a trainer in advance. Maybe try it for two months. I promise you will NOT miss an appointment, and you might pick up the habit of getting to the gym regularly.

Or, a cheaper way would be to find a friend to be a workout partner. Schedule workouts together, with a cash penalty if one guy misses or cancels. For instance, maybe you have to pay the other guy $5 or $10 for a missed workout.

That might help. Good luck!

The Summer of Big Arms is almost over. I'm extending it to September 21, which is the official last day of summer. Pics probably to follow.

I'm so proud of myself. Last week I went to the gym 3 days....AND I've been the past three days straight. Went to a Body Pump class (barbells and weights) and got to the gym 30 minutes before the class to get my cardio in. Yesterday, took a break from the weights and just did cardio for 45 min. Today I will get my strength training in plus the cardio. Plan on going again tomorrow, taking a rest from the gym Wednesday and then going back Thursday for another Body Pump class. thumbs up! Haven't cheated at all in the past week or so (in regards to eating sweets or unhealthy foods)...even went yesterday to the dessert shop to add something to my birthday cake order for the end of this month and wasn't even tempted to buy a cupcake or anything before I left.

Then I got super excited when I was fooling around on the 'net yesterday and stumbled across what's going to be my next read:

Read some reviews and they seem to be positive for the most part. I guess the book is pretty much old news now since it came out in 2005, but I had no idea that Sly had even written a book. excited

Getting back to it.

I have done a 5k run for the last two days - but it has been such a bitch to do, when earlier this year I could breeze through 5 and 10ks. Really need to give up the smoking, but I just can't. sad

Tonight it's Pilates. smile

Edit: Pilates - check!

Tomorrow: Either a run or high impact aerobics.

I have that book, too. It´s quite an enjoyable read but he got some help from a ghostwriter, but it´s a nice little fitness and nutrition book and gives you an insight into how he became what he is today and how he trained to have a certain physique for certain movies.

A good book with some valuable info especially for beginners but also for those who´ve been exercising for years.

Highly recommended.

I use the "my fitness pal" app to track my meals and workouts...anyone else use it too? I find it to be very helpful.

I don't know why it's so hard registering I must exercise. I must. I stopped for a while, new body pains, heat, time and so on. In that span I felt sooooo sick and completely exhausted. Started back, and I feel better than I've felt in weeks, not great, but so much better.

I reached another goal this week - I did three wide-grip chin-ups with 45 pounds strapped to my waist. Eventually I'll double the reps.

Last summer I reached a similar goal; three unassisted chin-ups.

Then I fell off the wagon.

Now I'm back to trying to get to 4 sets of 10 reps on the assist machine (alternated between wide grip and narrow grip)...I used to do 70lb assist but right now I'm at 90lb assistance (half my bodyweight).

^ Good. You'll be doing unassisted chin-ups in no time. Slowly work your way up to ten. Wide grip chins are essential for a nice, wide back.

Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's will be here before you know it. That means lots of get-togethers and lots of food. Eat in moderation, don't slack off with your workouts and you'll be fine.

I am still doing my 2 miles 300ish calories on the treadmill. I feel lazy though. Hubby does 5-10k everyday without fail.

I am very proud of his hard work, he is looking very good!

cool

I saw a training clip on youtube where the guy stated that narrow-grip with palms facing you are "chin ups" and wide grips with palms facing out are "pull ups".

He suggested starting off with chin-ups (easier) then progressing to pull-ups.

Have been back on the workouts in the last two weeks, 5 days the first week, 6 the second. I am now spliting my days evenly 3:3 cardio and strength training. Not lookign to lose much weight (about 5 pounds) but am looking to lower my body fat percentage, hence the strength training.biggrin

I'm a bit concerned I will go off track again as I go on holiday in two weeks time, and although the hotel has a nice gym that i can use, I don't know if it can compete with sun and sea and me in holiday mode.confused
