everybody = my black male friends and all my white friends. The brothas think it was another man bashing movie and my white friends think it was boring, ill written and poorly directed.
Honestly I've never heard the movie quoted but I know the girls love to see Angela burn up them clothes and that car. Everytime a girlfriend of mine gets mad at her man, the first thing she wants to do is burn some damn clothes. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Let me roll my sleeves up while I explain this....
--The return of Mickey There was nothing wrong with the return of Mickey, it's the way it was done that I had a problem with. The corny lines and the constant interrupting gave me a headache.
--The whole "Don King" scenario, showing how crooked boxing is Actually that guy overacted to the highest power. I think I remember spit flying out of his mouth and it landing on Tommy's forehead while he was talking in one scene.
--Adrian and Rocky arguing in the street ("Give it to your son!!!") That argument won't nothing compared to the one they had in III and IV. Remember in III when Adrian literally laid Rocky's ass out on the beach: "WHAT'S THE TRUTH DAMMITTT!!!!!!" And then in IV: "You see him, you know how strong he is. YOU CAN'T WIN!"
--My personal favorite...the scene when Rocky is walkng alongside Tommy's car trying to stop him from joining Duke. I was so ashamed of this scene. This was Rocky at his most pathetic moment...begging this wannabe copy cat to not run with the "bad guy". It's this exact scene that made me hate this movie. The Rocky Balboa from the first Rocky movie should had popped up in this scene and sucker punched this pathetic Rocky to the damn concrete.
--When Tommy punched Paulie...the look on Rocky's face...I remember sitting in the theater saying "Yo ass betta run, Tommy!" Lawd, Rocky should had left Paulie's dumbass on the floor. It was his fault that Rocky lost his money in the first place.
Missfee's Rocky order:
1) Rocky I. Definitely the best. Showcases Rocky at his hungriest moment and you see him vulnerable, yet strong in spirit. He honestly didn't take no shit off of nobody in this one.
2) Rocky VI. My all time favorite. Why? Basically what Guns said earlier, the movie was a damn flashy, workout, music video. You got Rocky in this hot bomber jacket, tight black pants and a newsboy hat On top of all of that, he's up against a steriod shooting, machine trained (yet pretty) Russian. The only down side was that Apollo was sacrificed in the ring. If only Rocky would had thrown in that damn towel.
3) Rocky III. By far the most exciting of the series. The obvious is the presence of Mr. T. His punchlines had me rolling and STILL have me rolling on the floor dying laughing. Just when you thought Creed was a major shit talker, here comes Mr. T. with the attitude and pizazz to match the words that were coming out of his mouth. I'm mostly drawn to this installment because of the transformation of Rocky and Apollo's relationship. I actually liked seeing them go from competitive, egotistical boxers to humble legendary boxers who were capable of working together. My favorite scene is when they are running side by side on the beach near the end.
4) Rocky II. I liked this Rocky okay, but it didn't "wow" me like the ones I mention above. I liked when Rocky and Adrian got married and when he took her back to the apartment, the way he looked at her gave me chills down my spine. Lawd if a man ever looked at me like that and then said "You ain't never getting rid of me"...my panties would melt off. Anyway, my 2nd favorite scene was in the beginning when Rocky and Apollo were in the hospital and Rocky rolled into Apollo's room and asked him if he gave him his all and Apollo said yeah. That touched me. Just showed that Apollo was man enough to put his ego to the side and be real when it was time to be real.
That's my synyposis.

I like Urban Cowboy for it's pure cheesy goodness. I like Purple Rain and Peggy Sue Got Married, too. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I like both of those - though The Life Aquatic goes off the rails about 2/3 of the way through. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

HBO wore that shit out in the early 80s. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

wow, you certainly are BIG Rocky fan
the way I see it
Rocky (76): the original that started it all, and Sly's finest hour; after this early peak his career has been, basically, a loooooooong and steady decline, with some exceptions like the first Rambo, Rocky III, Assassins, Cop Land, Rocky Balboa, etc. This movie was special because it worked as a modern sports movie, but also as a romantic drama and social commentary...And it has the gorgeous soundtrack of the great Bill Conti. Deserved hit, and...deserved Oscar for Best Picture? we'll never know which film truly deserved the award: this, Taxi Driver or Network? 5 stars ouf of 5
Rocky III: a movie about friendship, sports, training and boxing. If you like those elements, this movie is basically for you. The scene when Micky dies is, in my opinion, Sly's finest moment as an actor (1982 was a good year for him). And reducing the final combat to just 3 gritty/real-time rounds was a great idea (a musical montage woudn't have worked in this case...) 4/5
Rocky Balboa: solid and surprising comeback. I see it as a mix of the original + part III combined... 4/5
Rocky IV: '80s guilty pleasure, and a classic soundtrack for the gym when you need to pump HARD, lol My only complain is the death of Apollo...ludicrous! what about putting him in a wheelchair? With Carl Wheaters part V would have been completely different and BETTER, and his presence would have improved the already solid VI too... A movie you either dig or hate completely, so depending on which side you're on, it's a 3/5 or a 0/5...
Rocky II: never truly liked/embraced this one. Feels like an apendix of the original film, and the whole "your wife is in a coma!" subplot was out of place...Seems like Sly didn't have a lot to say, other than making Rocky win this time. Not a bad film, but certainly the worst of the bunch, nothing more than a bridge between parts I and III, but the final combat was kick-ass and reasonably realistic, so who cares? lol...And ANOTHER classic soundtrack by Conti 2'5/5
(Rocky V: ah yes, the entry that Sly never made, he realized that he had only a couple of good ideas, not enough to make the film work, so he gave up until 2006,...lol)

All right, all right...I tried to play devil's advocate and make an argument for Rocky V, but even I know it's the worst of the bunch (but I still like my moments in it).
I'm stunned at how highly regarded Rocky IV is though. That soundtrack...PURE CHEESE! "Hearts on Fire"? "No Easy Way Out"? Blech! I think that's why I liked the first two so much. Once they started moving away from Conti's original soundtrack, it seemed to me like alot of the emotion was gone.
Other than the Star Wars soundtracks, Rocky I is my all time favorite music score. I know there have been better one's, but that CD still gives me goosebumps. I shall listen to it tonight! She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

You know I've always wondered if he hadn't killed off Apollo in IV would it had made V a better movie and I'm guessing hell yeah, since Apollo would had smelled Tommy's ass a mile away and stopped Rocky from making a complete ass out of himself.
