What deodorant/antiperspirant do you use?

I find that after several years of use I become immune to a particular brand of deodorant. It stops working as well as it used to. I used Secret for many years, then switched to Dove for many years. I, of course, tried things in between but found I am allergic to a handful of brands (Degree, Teen Spirit, those hippy underarm crystal things).

I switched back to Secret when Dove wasn’t working anymore and now that’s not working again either.

I brought home some more hippy stuff (Tom’s of Maine Organic) and today is day 2 and I was stinky yesterday and this morning am discovering I am allergic as well (red, raw, burning armpits ).

So what do you use? Are there even that many brands out there anymore?

The hippy stuff has to be applied about 2 or 3 times a day, and often irritates skin.

I found that Queen Helen's works very well for the hippy stuff. Much better than Toms or Jason.

However, there are thee deodorant stones from Thailand that are aluminum free and sold in health food stores which work much better:

It's essentially a crystalized stone, and you wet it and apply it to your armpit (and feet too if you want). It works better than the non-hippy stuff too!

If you cant find it, I'll send you one. It's totally worth it.

Oh, and I bought the crystal deodorants about a year ago (2 stones), and I am nowhere near using them up even though I use them every day. They last forever.

I think I'm allergic to all of the hippy stuff cause they use a zinc-type ingredient instead of aluminum.

It didn't irritate me like Jason and Toms did.

You can also make your own deoderant spray using water, a little bit of alchohol,

drops of essential oils (I found a mixture of orange and eucyliptus worked very well),

but I had to apply it about twice a day here in Bangkok (the heat).

The stones saved me from constantly reapplying.

As for natural ones like Tom's, I'm sorry, but...yuck. Not only do they not work, but I think they encourage the body to smell worse.

Oh lawd, I've SEEN some of the armpits walking around Stoopies in Minneapolis. Stinking is the LEAST of the problems those underarms have!

It wasn't anything other people could smell (at least, no one said anything), but there was just a very slight "ripeness" to the armpits of my clothing that gave me pause.

What I did was to switch to an antibacterial body wash (one that actually says "antibacterial" on the label) and really make sure I lather up my pits.

I still check my clothes after wearing and the situation is much improved.

I should be clear, I doubt anyone else notices either. It's just noticeable to ME at the end of the day. And I want to make SURE it won't be noticed by anyone else.

I'll have to try that. I do "really make sure I lather up" () but I'll try the antibacterial soap as well.

Oh, so that's it! I was wondering why my Secret doesn't seem as effective as it once was. Not that I have a serious problem, it's just that I too have noticed that by late evening, Secret seems to wear off a bit. Before I could go all day and into the next without it failing, but not anymore. I thought the company started cheating with the formula or something and started reducing the amount of funk buster in the stuff. And forget Dove. I bought it thinking it would be just as good as Secret. NOT! I spent good money on that worthless shit, and it didn't even last til the end of the work day. Thank goodness I don't get really sweaty under my armpits so the funk is not strong, but if I take a sniff and smell anything off, I'm in the shower or at least washing the pits and adding fresh deo.

Those 2 dont work at all for me ~ they actually make my armpits itch

I use Almay any other non-hypoallergenic deodorant peels my skin off with in seconds. It does have aluminum in it. Walgreens carries this product.

I am totally allergic to the Tom's of Maine or Trader Joe's deodorants. They give me terrible rashes and they don't work very well anyway.

I am miraculously not allergic to the crystal stuff. And it seems to work pretty well. But nothing is 100%. You may have to live with it to some degree (no pun intended)
