Fashion in your 40s - Dos and Don'ts

I've been dressing badly all my life, so I'm not about to stop now nana

BUT just out of interest I googled - what is the advice by so-called "experts" in the field?

They say to steer away from things that you feel uncomfortable and unattractive in (duh) but that doesn't leave much else if your figure isn't what it used to be confused

What are your dos and don'ts?

Post pics! biggrin

I agree, but I would add it seems perfectly appropriate for your 60s (as seen here)

I wouldn't say that I've been dressing "badly", but 80% of the clothing that I've ever bought has come from the Clearance rack. It was never much of a priority all things considered.

Now that I'm re-evaluating my priorities, I've decided to buy clothes that I WANT. And since I've been losing weight, I'm actually comfortable enough to wear H&M-style clothes (their stuff does not forgive a flabby midsection!!!).

BUT, it's hard to decide what makes me look "young" and what makes me look like a 40 year-old man in the throws of a mid-life crisis.

confuse

Style doesn’t have to be expensive and for that matter you can be wearing a two thousand dollar outfit and look awful.

Above all, wear clothes that actually fit you. Clothes that are too big make you look dumpy and clothes that are too small make you look just plain uncomfortable.

Next, find things that are flattering to your body shape. If you don’t know, have someone shop with you and try everything on.

Finally, be aware of how much skin you’re showing. This doesn’t mean you can’t be sexy, just that you’re not giving it all away. If you have a low-cut top, cover your legs. If you’re showing off the legs, be more modest elsewhere. A spaghetti strapped mini-dress makes you look like a hooker.

If you look like a designer throw up, it's a don't. To much "branding" on anyone looks gross.

we don't have a H&M store here pout but I took the master to shop there in NYC

It seems to be catering for tall thin men though, think 6'3" strapping swedish lads lol

Which suited Leo very well, since he has VERY long arms, and the sleeves in H&M all go down past his wrists woot!
