This is rubbish Erin and you know it. I was going to orgnote someone and talk smack about you over it but following John's suggestions I think I should confront it here. The only time we orgnote each other is to gossip about orgers. smile

Oh really? When was the last time you and I noted? 2007? lol

I just want to be the one getting you in trouble this time. pout

I've been lucky (or just uncool confused ) enough to have been left out of this sort of thing for the most part -- and if I've ever been the subject it, I don't know it and I don't care to know. But I do know this sort of thing goes on and has kind of ruined the environment of the site for some members. I applaud you, John, for putting it out there to squash. It's childish.

You and me both. I had a thread that was about 6 pages and had a couple of posts by trouble makers on the last page. It was deleted...not locked, not edited...just plain old deleted.

It's fucking ridiculous.

I'm sorry Dani.

This is one pet peeve (ok I guess the whole gossip orgnoting and this) that I have with the org.

I was a mod over at NPGU (which was wayyyy smaller, a fraction of this place) but one of the things we vowed never to do was DELETE threads. We didn't do it because over at NPGMC shit he/they didn't like would go POOF! gone. There is really no benefit in deleting a thread other than to tell someone who acted an ass, hey, go ahead and do it again cuz it will be gone and folk will forget about it. Fuck that, when people act out of line, it should be left there for prosperity. If it's locked, that's fine, but let it serve as a reminder for the NEXT time you act like a dick.

Please mods, can we stop just deleting stuff?? beg

There was absolutely no need for Dani's SPCA thread to be gone. So the fuck what if Dwerdre and I got into it? We're both grown folk. I'm sure I can call him/her a kill-joy fucktard and he/she can call me a twat and we can all go on with our lives just fine. neutral

Ah well. It happens to about 1 in 5 of my threads. The funny thing is a lot of this times the ones that get locked are so stupid I come back and check them and I'm like wtf could have POSSIBLY happened in this thread that it got deleted????? falloff

I think threads being deleted is bullshit too. Snipping and locking should suffice. I feel like I'm in KG sometimes the way the place is moderated.

if i were a moderator i'd be most disinclined to waste my time reading each post and editing the snarky stuff people post.

deleting/hiding the thread entirely sends a message, without requiring the mods to waste their precious life energy

not saying i like this method, but i understand it

It doesn't take much time or effort to assess when a thread has gone out of hand, and to simply lock it vs deleteing takes the same amount of thime. Click a button.

And why even be a mod if you're not gonna bother to read what the problem is? confused lol

It doesn't send a message of can't-be-bothererd to me, it sends a message of censorship (like back at Prince's club) and assumption by the person doing the deleting that they know better what is to the benefit of others. I don't like what's going on here so no-one should see it. POOF!

You know what's cool about the forums in "Aint it Cool News"? they do not edit, even when subjects, flames or attacks get crazy (against the administrators mostly!), and I think that is cool. They let fires start and put themselves out. The only time I've really been aware of solid censorship or banning there is in the case of ridiculing someone's death and that was only in one case (otherwise they don't even care about that!). I HATE control or censorship in the case of a public forum of words. I can't stand it when threads get locked on this site (and often it is locked as a direct result of the close mindedness and ignorance of the moderator). It really goes against my instinct of freedom of expression. Really, I'd rather see the truth of how people interact, not some walt disney rated "G" coverup. I've had people try to tear me a new one on here and other sites, but you what? That's what you have to take in order to have freedom of expression. But this site is slowly and sadly getting a bit conservative in some ways as everyone gets older, and the population of posters dwindles.

Now, I have no idea what goes on in orgnotes or such on here (or how or why they could actually hurt someone), but I favor as transparent a controlling hand as possible.

We can't openly flame each other John...least we're not supposed to.

I was out of the loop when this whole drama happened because I had said something to zaza on the secret santa thread that hurt his feelings and he was ignoring me. I should have put it more gently I guess. Sorry.

Anyway you're right we can't flame and I am glad about that because there would be flaming happening all over these threads and all of them would eventually get annoying.

I am all about talking about people in orgnotes; I think it is a matter of how it is done.

One time PunkMistress pissed me off in a thread. I didn't want to flame her so instead I org noted her friend and mine Acrylic and asked Acrylic "what the hell is up her ass". Anyway a couple of orgnotes passed, Acrylic showed me a different way to look at it and I never needed to go any further. I did not consult with more then one orger.

I use to do this all the time with DesireeNevermind when someone on the org was lame or a moron or just a complete unholy ass in my opinion. I would rant and rave for several paragraphs and hit the send button. Only Dez would get it though, never needed to send it to anyone else or call a mod. After venting I was calmer. The only one I called a mod on was mzkqueen03 and that was because her posts gave me a headache. pissed

Venting to a friend or two is a good thing.

Once you send the email to 3 or more and those folk realize they're all getting the same messages from the same person...it starts to (on purpose or not) look like a "campaign".
