Most of our lives will be reduced to a sound bite once we're gone (if we are remembered at all!). In the grand scheme of things, being remembered for his role in "Brokeback Mountain", a major motion picture, won't be such a bad thing. He touched a lot of peoples' hearts playing the character of Ennis Del Mar. His role also gave the world a lot to think about in regards to how sexuality is considered in our culture today. Ennis Del Mar was so much more than just a "Gay Bloke". In fact, I hate it when the media speaks of his role in that movie as being that of a "Gay Cowboy". I saw him more as just "A Cowboy". Albeit a very complex character, a very deep and introspective man. I also look forward to catching up with the other roles he played mentioned in this thread, he seemed to me to be an excellent actor. May Heath be resting peacefully. I agree. One of the reasons I liked him so much is that he took that role so much farther than a "gay cowboy." It was just a love story to me. I cried like a baby at the end. Anyway, that's not the first "gay" role he played. http://www.news.com.au/he...02,00.html Ledger's first acting role was as a homosexual athlete in little-known Australian TV soap opera Sweat in 1996.
He played a gay cyclist in the teen soap, set at the Western Australian Institute of Sport and which portrayed the lives of Olympic hopefuls. The creator and writer of the series, John Rapsey, said it was clear even then that Ledger, then a 16-year-old sports champion and high school dropout, possessed an unusual talent. "He himself had absolutely no problem playing the role. He handled all of that with great aplomb,'' Rapsey said. "What was noticeable about him was he was concentrated, very quiet, and you could see that he was really observant of other people.'' Ledger credited his instincts with his success. "The one thing that's got me to where I'm sitting is my instincts..." "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

Ledger's version of the Batman villain, glimpsed in early teaser trailers, made it clear that his Joker would be less comical and more depraved and dark.
It's going to be so weird watching the much-anticipated Dark Knight. From what I hear, his performance as the Clown Prince is kick-ass. I find it really unsettling that his last role is The Joker. I know it's just a movie, but the character in all forms of media (60's tv show notwithstanding) is notorious for driving people to their -often self inflicted -deaths. I don't know. It just makes me feel weird. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Heath was a method actor, from what I understand. He played The Joker, and publicly stated on a few occasions he was having trouble dealing with playing the part. It's not uncommon for an actor to get overly wrapped up in a role, a la Jim Carrey in Man On the Moon. I'm not saying the part had anything to do with his death, just that it gives me the creeps thinking about it. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

God knows how that happened. I don't remember Jack Nicholaus or Caesar Romero killing themselves. Those are the only 2 Jokers of note really. Along with Mark Hamil from the cartoon and he's still alive. I'm tempted to say that was the most idiotic thing I've seen someone type all day but that would be mean...well I guess I am mean because I just typed it.

What Fox News thinks of Heath's death.
http://thinkprogress.org/...ks-ledger/ Opening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.” Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, “I wish I knew how to quit you” from Ledger’s gay romance movie Brokeback Mountain, Gibson disdainfully quipped, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback Mountain in which Ledger said, “We’re dead,” followed by his own, mocking “We’re dead” before playing the clip again. click on link to listen to audio. Mary-Kate Olsen's Link to Heath Ledger Case By Kathy Ehrich Dowd and Liz McNeil People.com The masseuse who discovered Heath Ledger's body spoke to the actor's friend Mary-Kate Olsen twice on the phone before dialing 911, police sources confirm. Masseuse Diana Wolozin arrived at Ledger's Manhattan apartment to give him a massage at about 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday. When he didn't come out of his bedroom, she called his cell phone and got no answer, according to the sources. She then went inside his bedroom, saw him lying in bed, set up the massage table near his bed, and shook him. When the 28-year-old actor did not respond, the masseuse – who knew that Ledger was friends with Olsen – used the speed dial on Ledger's cell phone to call Olsen in California asking for help, the sources say. Olsen, 21, initially told the masseuse she would call security people in New York for help. The masseuse then called Olsen back to say she would call 911 herself, the sources say. Emergency aid workers arrived at the apartment at almost the exact same time as Olsen's security people. The source confirmed information first reported by the New York Times. It also clarifies Olsen's link to the case. Earlier rumors erroneously said that Ledger had died in Olsen's apartment.
