Hmm, the Sin City rules would seem to apply. But it is a cool movie. New category--B&W&C!

I have a friend who never like this movie. She finds it depressing how the Jimmy Stewart character never gets to follow his dreams and ends up stuck in his hometown forever.

Yeah, there's definitely been some international stuff here. Metropolis, for example, is German. But since you've opened up the floodgates, I'll co-sign on Metropolis and add these... Just about any German Expressionist cinema floats my boat. [Edited 4/1/06 13:39pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

The It Girl Birth of a Nation Intolerance 42nd Street King Kong I dunno what my absolute favorite would be, though. Maybe Under the Cherry Moon? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Still gonna...lol That's funny--that's what I thought Family Man sounded like. Like, oh no, this guy can't be happy--he's single and has no kids. Better set him straight, Hollywood! Never got around to seeing it, but it looked like something of a remake. And It's a Wonderful Life is brilliant--but I like the second half of the movie the best. Don't wanna say anymore since you're gonna see it. You really should wait until Christmastime, though. They always show it on tv for free on NBC. If you don't live in America, you should still wait. It just goes really well with the Christmas activities and everything. You'll just love people, and you need to see a movie like that around Christmas because the holidays will make you KURAZEE!

Regardless of its cinematic value, the shit was the single most racist film ever put on celluloid and should actually be removed from the AFI archives. Regardless of its cinematic value, the shit was the single most racist film ever put on celluloid and should actually be removed from the AFI archives. that's a hard call, in my opinion. as a work of cinema, 'birth of a nation' is an amazing film. thematically, i know it's very controversial and it's also offensive to a lot of people. i've never seen it, so i can't make a judgment call on it. i think it's important to remember films like this, so we can remember what society used to be like, what it used to tolerate, and how far we've come and how far we've yet to go. it's like some of those old warner bros. cartoons with the racist images...i've seen some of those, and while i thought they were really terribly offensive, i'm glad i had a chance to see them because i had a chance to wrap my brain around the fact that, at one time, THIS WAS ACTUALLY ACCEPTABLE. what are we creating now that will make our children and grandchildren wince?
