have you seen "the royal tennenbaums"?

it has the best use of a nico song i can imagine.

I saw 'The Royal Tennebaums' awhile back and remember admiring how well the music was used, but don't remember which scene was associated with Nico. Gettin' old. neutral

when gwyneth's character, margot, the adopted sister gets off the bus, and her adopted brother, richie, played by luke wilson who is in love with her, seese her, and she walks toward the camera and it kicks into slow-mo and "these days" plays under the scene.

i love that director... whose name is escaping me at the moment... getting old too. also did rushmore and life aquatic with steve zissou... someone help.

Rushmore is da bomb, that also had a good soundtrack. Even a Nico track couldn't save The Royal Tenenbaums confused

It is Wes Anderson. The soundtrack for Rushmore is much better, imo. Mostly sixties british invasion stuff--Kinks, Creation, et al.

And I hated The Life Aquatic, but hearing Bowie songs as a soundtrack is always pretty cool.

i actually prefer tennenbaums, which i know is sacrilidge (spelling?)

i just connect to the characters in tennenbaums more. after seeing that movie, my dream became to become a male version of margot. i want a fake wood finger just so i can drum it against a porcelin tub.

life aquatic wasn't very good compared to the others. it had it's moments. one of the few times i have liked jeff goldblum.

I totally agree. Because The Royal Tenenbaums was about a family, I found myself relating to many of the characters. Plus, I had a strained relationship w/my dad, who just passed away, and I remember wishing he could've seen it so we could talk bout it. But he never did. sad

Rushmore is a very cold movie, which finds something resembling a heart by the end. I still love it, though. Just not as much.

That is a wonderful, wonderful movie...

It is really ahead of its time in that the so-called "freaks" are portrayed with such empathy.

...La Dolce Vita

If we're gonna open up this bad boy to foreign films...

I thought I read where the floodgates had been opened to all comers a page or 2 back.

My Mom took me with her to see these 2 films in the theatre when I was only a lad.
She was determined to have her first born experience things beyond the streets of Bed-Stuy.
I had/have no clue what these films were/are about so i'll have to revisit them soon.
What did stick, obviously, was a sense that the visual content contained intense artistic substance.

my favorite black and white movie was remade as a color film so does that still count? anyway, imitation of life is my favorite black and white film and one of my favorite films of all time. i love both but prefer the lana turner/juanita moore version.
