X2 Owns My Geek Ass!

It's official! X-Men 2 completely rocks!!! It went above and beyond my expectations. The first flick was just the setup for this one, THIS IS THE REAL X-MEN MOVIE!!! Without spoiling anything, I'll just list a few of the things I enjoyed:

Wolvie finally gets to do some hardcore ass kicking!

Magneto & Mystique demonstrate why they are two fantastic villians!

Storm actually has a part in this one, and Halle Barry's acting is actually tolerable!

Iceman & Rogue's relationship blossoms, and I want to see this manifest in the comic!

Lady Deathstrike! Whoa, Kelly Hu is hot AND she can kick ass!

Stryker- what an evil villian! Brian Cox is truly evil, but in a very subtle way.

Nightcrawler!!!

Jean Grey fans, this movie is going to have you doing the happy dance!!! (Especially when you see where they are going for X3!!!)

Overall, the whole film was an improvement on the first. This ranks with Star Trek: The Wrath Of Kahn, The Empire Strikes Back, Godfather II, Aliens and T2 as one of those sequels that actually outdoes the original. The characters get more development, the effects are bigger and the story is better. It will appeal to non-geeks, no doubt about it. If you are a geek, then this movie will please you to no end(and if it doesn't, then give up. There is nothing that will ever please you in a comic adaptation if this one doesn't do it for you).

Magneto was cool and funny lol. Its almost a Wrath of Kahn but damn close imo. But this one makes me wonder how the hell did they even get by with X-Men 1

I got a free comic book!

I loved the snide comment he made to Rogue. Just downright devilish, isn't he?!

I was VERRRY impressed with Nightcrawler (my favorite X-man)! One of my favorite parts without giving too much away was the appearance of a certain Russian mutant, I was hoping for a fastball special pray but oh well. The movie still kicked ass. I'm going again today.

You know, this may sound asinine, but whatever happened to Gambit?

I'm not familiar with the comic books really, only the cartoon that used to come on, or perhaps still does. There was a guy called Gambit... With cards.

Was he just a cartoon guy they won't put in the movie or something? smile

Gambit first appeared in the actual comic but I'd love to see Gambit in the movie also. He'd be cool to see onscreen.
Maybe they'll put him in the future movies but I read somewhere that the writers want to find a way where he fits in naturally in the script's storyline.

Maybe they could have some sort of love triangle tension between Gambit, Rogue and Iceman since Gambit and Rogue kind of had a thing going on in the comic books.

Great! Then we must demand Gambit appear in the movies. biggrin

The cool thing about the X-men is that they have a great array of characters. A LOT of characters. Unfortunately because of this, the general audience won't get to see all of them although there are a few quick cameos in X2.

At first I wasn't too pleased with the movie version of Magneto but I am now. Ian McKellan is great.

This movie does own me right now. I saw it last night and I'm going again today!

Everyone did an amazing job -- even those actors whom I think could have been better cast.

And OMG what's going on with Jean Grey!!! I can't WAIT until the third movie! The only two complaints I have are that there is no danger room, and they still aren't showing any of the characters fly. (This will almost HAVE to change with the third.)

When I went, about 7 guys came dressed as X-men. ONe had his entire body wrapped in aluminum foil (Colossus), another was painted blue and wearing nothing but a bikini (beast), and another had a big bucket on his head with the eyes cut out (Magneto). It was overboard, but I love to see people so thrilled!

GO SEE IT!

When mystique is stealing files on magneto and xavier in the politicians office...the next name on the alphabetical list after magneto's is Remy Labeux a.k.a. Gambit...so pehaps we'll see him in x men 3? And given this movie's ending...i hope they explore the dark phoenix/madeline pryor / jean grey plotline in X3

Gambit was rumored to have been written into X2, but was later removed. He may be in X3 as it'll need some fresh blood. I also think Havok will be included.

Phoenix is definitely on the way, and I think she'll most likely represent the dark side of the phoenix force. It has more narrative capacity than the "good" Phoenix.

whats with the truly lame star trek II rip-off ending? I could go to payless shoes for cheap knockoffs...

but most of the action sequences are cool, especially the beginning, the assault on the school, the pyro loses it with the cops...

but the storyline and set pieces are still underdeveloped and messy... like a bunch of ideas with no weight or thought.

I really do dig the two villain mutants though. They can carry a scene just by standing there.

I have a feeling that The Hulk will be much better made movie.

This is goign to be a franchise that has lots of possibilities (villain, hero introductions). This will probably happen to some extent at each finale.

The ending did remind me of STII, but I didn't think it was a rip-off. Perhaps it was intended as an homage, but it totally worked for me.

I couldn't disagree more that the storyline and set pieces were "underdeveloped". The film did a fantastic job of laying out the storyline, and the sets were incredible.

I think the Hulk will be good, but I doubt it will rock like this one did.

Gambit was originally slated for a cameo, but it was apparently cut. I'm sure he'll show up before too long.
